So is there "Target Magnetism" in Skyrim?

Post » Wed Aug 04, 2010 2:55 pm

Good,

I felt like a proper [censored] in Oblivion when my custom made fire ball of epic explodation missed a mud crab from point blank range to fizzle out like wet fart on the ground.

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb. Call of duty was ruined by target magnetism

"Oh, I can't see anyone! Oh wait, my target crosshair slowed down when I went over that bush!"

This will ruin immersion. If you're a terrible mellee fighter then stick to magick, if you can't hit anyone with magick then use a bigger blast radius.

Highly dissappointed by this decision

Huge assumption as to how it will be implemented. Chances are, it will only affect melee combat (or, as the poster above said, fireballs won't go through someone at point blank range). Let's say you're right there in a battle with a giant troll, you lunge in for an attack and miss it by about an inch just because your depth perception isn't accurate because you're looking at a 3D environment on a 2D surface. Calling it "dumb" and saying you're highly disappointed by this decision when you have no idea how it will actually affect gameplay is just silly.

Magnetism is not "snap to target" magnetism is the "pull" effect that First Person Shooters have when someone runs across the cross hairs. It's very subtle and usually hardly noticeable.

this, it said "slight" and I'm sure you'll be able to toggle it off

I'm not worried

I hope so, maybe it should be determined by the difficulty slider. (better to just toggle it off) that would feel way to easy for me. at that point they game could just play itself while I eat chips and watch like it was a movie or something.

Exactly. Just like every other piece of information that "ruins" the game supposedly, we do not know how this will work yet in Skyrim. So, let's not freak out like we seem to do every day?

Edit* @Alexandur just to be clear I'm not talking about the "snap to target" thing most shooters have. That I find annoying. Magnetism is more like what Halo has.

Halo has magnetism ?!?

I'm a life-long console player... I've never had trouble hitting anything.

That's not what your wife said *BA-DA-TIISHH!*

Horrible joke :shakehead:

I was having serious trouble in Oblivion, but mostly cause it stuttered a lot. I for one will welcome this.

Could we make a poll for that ? For once, I'm actually interested to see the results.

How the [censored] do you miss in close up combat!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sorry I don't want to Halo lunge my way through TES but if I make a character I make damn sure that I'm skilled with that character. If an enemy dodges my attack I don't want some system to try and hold my hand. If I miss that's my fault, not the games, I agree that depth perception is kind of dissappointing in recent games like CoD and Halo and even Oblivion

BUT say there is some dumb imp in my way and I want to kill the dragon behind it, My AUTO AIM (And don't try and call it anything else SLIGHT or not) will target the imp. The computer SHOULDN'T need to aim or think for me, I am quite capable of this.

Sigh. I really hope that this is either not true, or you can TURN IT OFF.
I don't like people holding my hand through games. I had enough of that in Oblivion, thanks.

That's what they say about every game but when I try to shoot someone and someone runs NEAR them it pulls my aim away from my primary target. Which RUINS my enjoyment

K. First of all, the sword lunge is not magnetism. That's the mechanics of the sword. And if you actually do play halo you very well know people can dodge. Jumping bastards... Guess what by the way? It's not auto-aim. Auto-aim and magnetism are two completely different mechanics. Almost no online shooter uses Auto-aim. That would defeat the purpose of a challenge.

@senior angry snake: No offense, but I'm getting the feeling you just svck at shooters. I never have problems hitting my target....

The point is, people don't like this. Some do, but a lot don't. This seriously needs to be an optional thing. Ever been to the Halo: Reach forums? Thousands of threads complaining about the magnetic pull on the crosshairs It's damned annoying, therefore needs to be optional.

Here's the original Computer Bild Spiele article in German:

http://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cbs-News-Spiele-PC-PS3-Xbox-360-The-Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Todd-Howard-Interview-5932069.html

Translated using Google Translate, Todd's reply is:

"In "Oblivion" it was sometimes difficult to hit an opponent. "Skyrim"makes it easier for players: A lightweight target-magnetism ensures that better meets the enemy. There are also many finishing moves, which we are convinced that the players love them."

Auto aim and Magnetism are the same thing pretty much. Its just that auto aim is hacking where magnetism is BS.

I may be overreacting but I'm more pissed about this "assumption" more than the rumor about no more spell creation.

In Skyrim I was hoping for a game that FINALLY allowed me to test my reaction time in this era of auto-aim/magnetism shooters. Is this Todd's way of having more "Visceral" combat by holding my hand?

I never had a problem with hitting opponents in Oblivion, but in Fallout, I did. So slight magnetism is probably needed. Not to mention a bit more realistic, seeing as how in a real sword fight, you aren't just going to swing your sword in front of you when your enemy is slightly off to the left of your arc. Yeah, this will actually make a nice edition to the series.

No game should have magnetism unless it's for little kids that need help playing video games. We as a mature community should not need such a feature in our MATURE games. Why don't these game companies that allow Magnetism toward enemies just do our laundry?

When I read the title I was actually thinking of targeted spells going after the target (or you), instead of simply flying by lazily in a straight line all the time. Then again, there will be spray-like spells, so :flamethrower: , but its never too bad to have more options when it comes to magic. Any info about that?
