Is there a true method for avoiding quests?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:05 pm

I am starting a new game, and playing without any patches on the 360. My plan is to avoid all quests, be they factions, miscellaneous, side, or main, etc.

I want to only do the bare minimum amount of quests until January, or later when Bethesda begins patching broken quests.

My question is, can quests really be avoided?

I am afraid that I may be close to 100 hours into the game, and when I begin questing, npc's will be dead, or missing, and quests broken,

Because the bugs went into motion as soon as I created my new game. ...Or is there safety in avoiding particular zones, and talking to npc's/triggering quests?

Yeah there's a way. Hit Alt+F4 as soon as you
start the game to disable quests.

Well, be very unsocial and not kill anything but animals, giants, mammoths and, not to forget, the notorious Mud Crabs! ...?
I have been playing on patch 1.1 and 1.2 on my X and have spent nearly 175 hours with only an occasional freeze.... and drunk dragons that fly backwards.

So, would it be unsafe, then to kill bandits in bandit camps at least?

I have had no problems at all doing so - just be careful of 'odd' items and over-geared chiefs.. they might be quest related.

BTW...

I wish the Xbox had an ALT+F4 function -_-

Rb2610 - can you read? You even quoted me. Lol. I am playing on the 360. I can't use commands like that.

Psizombie - you said you haven't experienced any game breaking or quest breaking glitches/bugs yet, what quests have you completed?

Whao.. that would take me a day to write down. I had only one little glitch with the Thieves Guild, but that one solved itself by completing another quest from the same person.
Right now I am also carrying some small quest items that I'm supposed to deliver to NPC's that I have chosen to kill along the way (optional quests), and can't ditch them - but what the hell, it's not as if they weigh a lot.

I have only had one quest glitch on me, and a reload of a save from before I got the quest fixed that. I have done the MQ, Civil War, Bards, all the Thane Quests, a ton of misc quests, most of the Dragon Priest quests and several Daedric Quests.

Comforting news. Thanks guys. Hopefully playing patchless, and walking on egg shells will keep me in the safe zone.

No probs.. I, though, can't guarantee that you won't bounce on any bugs while running patchless
Just remember to save frequently, and preferrably separate savegames, especially when you start something important. Even though I feel lucky that I have experienced so few bugs; I still save when I'm about to do start something important.

I was 'sighing' at the guy who posted after you who clearly hadn't read that you were on 360, I can read, that guy couldn't :P

If you're worried about bugged quests, the issue isn't avoiding picking them up, the issue is attempting to complete them. So don't worry about picking quests up.

i have only had quest breaking bugs when attacked by a dragon, for example.

1: was talking with meridia about getting the orb when a dragon attacked, fought it off and now i have no quest marker to find the orb.( yes i know u can find it at random but that is only if you have not spoken to her, upon speaking to her you should get a quest marker)

2: at the mages college taking the tour when a dragon attacked, killed it and then the lady would not finish the tour and only said "speak to me after the tour" or something similar.

Dragons are to blame for everything. lol

other than that no problems

Don't play the game.

This.
Or you could just explore the world and clear out dungeons. And for a house, well, you could kill some random hunter or that Anise woman and take her shack for all your storing needs.

I wasn't even aware of any shack like you just described. Could I have some more details?

Random hunter?

I heard about an "abandoned house" in a thread on the gamespot forums, but I never got a clear answer as to where it was..

Just make plenty of saves, and you will be fine. If you ever encounter a bug you can reload a previous save. I have yet to come across quest bugs, the bugs I get are little ones to do with the menu etc, and big ones like backwards dragons and no magic resist.

What is this I read above about killing a random hunter or npc for a shack? Is this the same as the abandoned house I read about in another thread? I don't know anything about free storage.
