Is there an unofficial patch team yet?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:00 pm

Because it seems like a waste to be playing and not noting all the issues I'm finding.

Would love to know if any of the former unofficial patch folks have announced their intentions to work on this game.

I'd be more than happy to put up a bug tracking database.

An unofficial patch wouldn't be wise before the official patch. Since they'd have to redo the entire unofficial one again to fix the new bugs brought on by bethesda's patch lol

There isn't a GECK (or whatever they'll call it for FO4), no FO4Edit, and Snip is breaking things just like it did for Skyrim. Plus, as Toast said, there's no official patch release yet. All the tools that the Skyrim modding scene has now just aren't there for FO4 yet.

And plus, there's a standard that needs to be met. In some "community patches" for FO3 and FONV, very subjective changes were made to gameplay mechanics, ones that had only the most spurious rationale for being bugs. The Unofficial Patch Project team for Oblivion and Skyrim aren't perfect, but the standard we follow is much more stringent for what is and is not a bug. A lot of consideration also needs to be put into how to fix a bug without breaking other things; each BGS game gets more and more complex than the previous, and things can cascade if one is not careful.

Supporting this theoretical UF4P would no small undertaking either; even with the recent USLEEP unification simplifying things into maintaining just one patch module, we still have our arms full with people not understanding that "Exists with USLEEP active, fixed with USLEEP not active" is not definitive proof that USLEEP is the culprit of whatever bug, or that the lack of anyone else reporting whatever showstopper they have means it's unique to their mod load.

Of course re: official patches and the GECK. What I'm saying is, have any of the former UP leads announced their intent? And it'd be a waste not to start tracking issues one notices before the official patches, 'cause, well, one notices a lot of issues that one might forget later, and we all know how much those official patches usually fix.

Absolutely agree on standards, and the subjective / lesser nature community patches that have been made.

Looks like your wish is coming true: http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/4312-ufo4p-bug-collection-thread/

Heed the instructions: If you're using ESPs, your report is going up against Nicolas Cage's avian hair.

I think it would be better to wait a few months until first few weaves of official patches are done. It will be quite a chore for modders to have to alter the mod several times because of the official patches.

they releasing a official patch this week i recommend u to wait for it.

If this first patch is a sing that Bethesda is actually doing a more active support that previews game, probably we wont need unofficial patch.

Have you seen the sheer size of the change logs for Unofficial Skyrim Patch? There will always be little bugs that get overlooked by the official game devs who have time and money budgets for such things.

And its still getting updates to this day, its crazy. Ofc alot of the bugs they fix are broken meshes on some mountain side that no one can see, still impressive though.

yeah but at this point i will wait for the offical first. I remember the Unoffical Patch for Skyrim tent to break stuff to generating other bugs. So isnt that great either.

Thanks for all the info, Madcat - are you planning on helping with the UF4P? If Fallout 4's patch team can hold to the standards the Unofficial Skyrim Patch set, we're in good hands.

Another monkey wrench in the operation is the eventual dawn of mods on consoles - the console players deserve just as much love as anyone on PC, but I imagine there may be several platform-specific bugs that are out of reach for the unofficial patch team. And the hordes of people who have never modded before, and know nothing about proper mod management or even etiquette! I don't envy anyone.

I always stay Vanilla for the first playthrough, and then I tend to only go for essential mods.

Cheers for the link, that's awesome!

You're delusional. Community patches have fixed thousands of documented bugs in every single title Bethesda has released. No reason to expect anything different this time around.
