If there where guns in Skyrim ugh :(

"X is better so Y has no use" is not a valid argument, because by that logic TES II-IV would have been a spell slinging, potion chugging, magic fest.

Fair enough reasons, I have just seen too many arguments of people saying it would be ridiculous and out of place when the dwemer created semi-sentient mechs.

Well I'm not a Lore buff, but where are the Dwemer now? If I recall correctly, technology was their downfall.

There are people in the setting that theorize some of their arrogance in the use of their technology led to their downfall (I think specifically it was them trying to create a god) but there is no universal, use technology = death deal with TES setting. Hell, that could be a interesting main campaign plotline in a TES game where there has been technological progress. Some secretive group trying to recreate the Dwemer plan of creating a god and you have to stop them (or perhaps find out it is beneficial, after all Bethesda have never said for certain it was a bad idea).

Yeah, I can't really see guns being successfully implemented into Skyrim, or any other Elder-Scrolls titles. Even a flintlock that takes an entire minute in-game to reload would be a stretch, although I could see it in some situations.

Don't pull a Fable, just let everyone stay in a "pure" fantasy setting for now. Eventually, providing that there's some damn good writing to explain them, and that they fit into combat in a balanced fashion, I wouldn't mind seeing them in TES VIII, or maybe have them, along with mass-production and such as a major plot-element in TES X. Just leave it alone for now, though.

Once they add guns kids will then want and demand kill streaks, death streaks, kill cams, perks, classes, tanks, helicopters, nukes,EMPs, etc.

That is the basis of the entire plot of Morrowind. What did you think Akulakhan was?

In any case, there is no physical need for technology in Tamriel. You have ways to teleport from Point A to Point B instantaneously, weather control devices, artillery strikes (mages with big spells). And Tamriel has been locked in stasis for over 5,000 years.

I have to admit it has been years since I last played Morrowind so I forgot if it was specifically a Dwemer-based. Looking back now yeah it all comes back, lol, wouldn't be surprised if I thought up the idea because of my half memory of Morrowind :P

I'll admit, without extensive diving into the back story and such, it was a bit hard to catch. But Akulakhan was intended to be a "second Numidium", and was based almost completely on Dwemer designs (though they made a few basic modifications). So I can see how easy it would be to forget.

Hell, at times I have trouble remembering Akulakhan, as so much of the story was around the godhood of the Three and Dagoth Ur. So I can't fault you for that.

Alright then, enough with the guns.

Folks seem to assume (from a coupel threads) that guns don't fit because:

1) It's not in the lore
2) It's not Fallout
3) there would be more than one gun
4) A gun would be more than a one-shot item
5) That a gun would be at least semi-modern
6) That you couldn't have a great quest or even a WTF incident (Ah a mage falling from the sky!!!) that gives you a one shot wonder
7) eh I'll stop

SO

What about laser guns?

The beam is just like, you know...charged electrons zipping on down to a target just like...a lightning bolt or electric shock!
So some mage essentially builds a capacitor, that releases down a metal rod, that can be directed to a target.
Voila...a gun, in a magical and lore fitting sense!

Take that :P

Except with a laser you're using science to achieve the effect, where with a staff of lightning, you're using magic. Fantasy uses magic to achieve an effect. Science Fiction uses science to achieve it. TES is fantasy.

But you're right about one thing. Enough with the guns.

delicious snip

this makes me want a new Might & Magic. not a spinoff, an actual core game with the winged midgets and laser guns and good music and scavenger hunts leading to castle ownership and stuff.

I think guns will eventually happen, alchemy would make sure of that and it's just natural progression after the crossbow.

Every thread when someone STILL can not understand why guns do not EVER fit TES I add the same thing: why not lightsaber, hand-grenades and rocket-launcher?

Why not, why not, why not... Christ - MOD IT!

Really - I want women in thongs and topless throwing themselves into wild orgies bathed in nothing but PURE LUST - and this fits TES even more than guns. I'm not gonna start asking "why not" and request it over and over. If I want then should I start a campaign for someone to M-O-D I-T !

Fantasy isn't so cut-and-dry what would you settings like, Arcanum, Bas-Lag, All-World, Forgotten Realms, Warcraft, hell even Middle-Earth has gunpowder and industry. Do these because they have science and go beyond fictional medieval period (after all if it was actual medieval period we would have cannons and hand-cannons) now no longer fantasy? Even TES has its fair share of science with the Dwemer.

Ugh...

Elder Scrolls fans can be so elitist.

First off, nobody wants modern guns, They want flintlocks at the absolute most. Hardly a replacement for swords.

Second, just because somebody wants guns doesn't mean they are a kid or that they want the game to be like Call of Duty. You aren't more mature just because you don't want guns.

If you don't want firearms fine. But please come up with a better argument than "This isn't fallout."

I think people don't want guns because they think their inclusion would change the world of Tamriel too much.

Did any character in Tolkien use a gun? Was it ever an option? Would it have felt right? Was Anduril a musket? Sting? Did Legolas use one? No, he used a bow. Granted, it's a more classical view of fantasy than some, but that's what TES is. Classical fantasy. High fantasy, with some sword and sorcery mixed in. That's just the way I like it.
