If there where guns in Skyrim ugh :(

Post » Mon Nov 16, 2009 3:45 am

I would most likely hate this game if it had just 1 type of gun in could not stand it at all.

bow and arrow is the way to stay.

like a topic i saw early on maybe make a quest the has to do with a gun then backfires and the future of guns is gone for Skyrim but nothing else.

guns i think in this game would be maybe like putting ani-freeze on your pan-cakes , no a good thing :(

Crossbow and arrow is the way to stay?

Devs already took out crossbows with TES IV. I guess you could petition to get them back in though. Maybe start another poll.

I agree. Guns should stick to games where it fits with lore. Fantasy games should stick to what we've got, bows and arrows (and of course crossbows maybe)
Unless the fantasy setting is in an era where guns exist, why kill the theme?

I will not like it if there are guns in TESV, crossbows and bows are just fine.

I personally don't see what the issue would be with very primitive firearms in TESV.... like very early hand cannons and such. They would actually fit the gameplay pretty well I bet.

I know there won't be any... but if there were it wouldn't be a huge deal to me.

I doubt Bethesda would be silly enough to add firearms to the Elder Scrolls world. I have complete faith we will never see them in a TES game.

At least I hope not

While I am fine not having firearms in Skyrim since the feel of it is older (hell I think plate armour would feel odd in Skyrim). I don't get this hatred of firearms in general. Especially when you consider looking at the technology we already have in TES we would have early firearms already. Plus hell it just adds more diversity, it isn't like in real-life firearms just replaced everything instantly. There is a fairly large timespan where firearms worked alongside all other medieval weaponry.

I also don't get why people instantly say they don't want Fallout in TES. I don't remember seeing arquebus and hand-cannons in Fallout. There is a huge difference between science-fiction Fallout and medieval firearms.

Going by my gut reaction, guns will never make an appearance in the Elder Scrolls series. Bethesda have the Fallout series to quench their thirst for guns.

They should add Crossbows too! That would be fun. Very Nordic too. :)

I wouldn't want guns but I wouldn't mind a magically fueled canon. But that would be my limit. Then again I don't even want them to get near my limit, but that would be tolerable. I mean the Dwemer had mechs and giant crossbows. :teehee: If they were still alive they might have conquered Tamriel after the Oblivion crisis. Just a thought

Its the theme of the fantasy setting. And a classic fantasy setting doesn't use guns.

Besides, guns are BORING! Enlightenment age up until World War 1 was boring as sin.

Its also because guns are essentially a 1 hit kill, assuming you hit them. And the reload times are riduculous.
Did you know the history channel sponsered a civil war shooter? It was realistic with its firearms, so naturally it took forever to reload and combat was stupid.

And the only people who would invent firearms, the dwemer, are GONE FOREVER. As much as I would like to see them again, I am glad they will NEVER invent firearms.
It just ruins immersion and the theme of a fantasy game

Having a gun that you could only fire once during any single fight due to reload times would be balanced.

As much as I love flintlocks, Skyrim is very obviously not the game for them.

I Want The M4A1 Machine Gun And Also the Barrett 50 Cal They Could Say Dwarfs Make Them They Just Got Lost For Oblivion 4 And Found In A Cave Some Where

why are you all so worried about guns? like seriously, a developer is entirely capable of making two games in wildly different settings without there being significant overlap between them. nobody went I DON'T WANT DRAGON AGE TO HAVE GUNS I LIKE SWORD AND SORCERY STUFF after Bioware made Mass Effect.

also yeah aren't there like four threads on this currently open

Then there will be no point in having any other weapon except guns and it just won't fit into the game.
Just keep guns away from TES please! :obliviongate:

There is plenty of other games that have guns.

Thematically and aesthetically Skyrim has a much older feel to it. With the obvious focus on Nords it should harken back to the Norse. One reason why in my post above I mentioned that plate armour for instance I would like to see less of because of it not really I feel fitting with that Nord-style. Now of course there be some but it more foreign influence.

A game set in Morrowind though has a very different aesthetic choices here something like a musket could fit better. It is just like how Oblivion is more classic high fantasy while Morrowind has a much more weird fantasy feel. Basically just different types of fantasy themes and aesthetics but in the same setting.

Because:

1. The Elder Scrolls as a whole has been staunchly devoted to Medieval Stasis up until now. Introducing guns would be a major change, and would probably have to be part of a game whose primary theme was an industrial revolution or similar event to have even a prayer of going over well.
2. Skyrim is going to be set in Skyrim, a.k.a. Elder Scrolls Scandinavia. So we can expect a Viking theme. Vikings were not known for their use of guns.

Fair enough reasons, I have just seen too many arguments of people saying it would be ridiculous and out of place when the dwemer created semi-sentient mechs.
