Maybe they include this option in TES VI.

I'm looking forward to this game, I really am. I can't help but feel somewhat confused over stuff like this though. Pete Hines gives a definate no-no when it is asked if anything has been added or implemented. As a remaster, this is to be expected.

Why then say that they are going to make the game as "current-gen" as possible, and anything that will make it "current-gen" they will give it a go... To me, a graphical overhaul doesn't make something "current-gen"...

Survival mode is not "current gen" to me. We have had survival mods for the Elder Scrolls games going as far back as Morrowind in 2003. Nothing about survival mode says "current gen" to my mind. It's been around for a long time.

To me, a graphical overhaul is precisely what is meant by "current gen." Gameplay is not generational, as far as I'm concerned. Technology is generational.

Adding the Survival Mode doesn't really mean as next gen as possible.

What Pete Hines means by next gen as possible is more improved graphics and giving a 64-bit .exe.

Like Pseron Wyrd said The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind on PC since 2002 can get a Survival Mode. Except for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the Xbox 360 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

When a person also asked Pete Hines if any improvements to the animations will be made to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition that's where Pete Hines responded to the question as well.

The newer improved graphics and the 64-bit .exe is what Pete Hines is referring to as next gen as possible.

I do not recall Bethesda saying anything about making any changes or additions in gameplay. It seems to me that a lot of assumptions are being made by the player base.

For example I did not see anything but improved graphics in the trailer.

Exactly. There was nothing said about adding new modes or changing anything. Honestly if they added something it's probably just a bit smoother animations, but that's the only thing that comes to mind. It's basically just a remaster, same game, shinier graphics, people have just been making assumptions left and right without any evidence and those people are going to be disappointed.

I do wish Bethesda Game Studios would develop and sell one last expansion pack for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.

Actually I hope.

Actually I want one. For a conclusion to the Civil War questline. Traveling to the Summerset Isles. To fight for the Thalmor or for Ulfrik Stormcloak to free Skyrim and the Nords to freely worship Talos or whoever and whatever they want to worship. Maybe somehow get the Imperials to turn their back on the Thalmor and form an alliance with Ulfrik Stormcloak and maybe do some diplomatic talks with the Redguards.

If you side with the Thalmor and defeat Ulfrik Stormcloak then Talos worship should still remain illegal.

Now I go and cry until I see Bethesda Game Studios announce one last new expansion pack to sell for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Special Edition. :(.

The names I can think of are.

The Elder Scrolls: Dominion, The Elder Scrolls: Thalmor. Someone probably has a better name than I do.

This should not be an issue. There are plenty of mods out there that will allow the user to make as close as can be to survival mode for SSE. I follow a twich user who runs Skyrim with a bunch of great survival like mods, so I am fairly sure some of if not all of those mods will make it to SSE for xbox one. I don't see why not.

What you say actually make a lot of sense. If Bethesda sold SSE with one last DLC included in the game price, I think that would really help sell the darn thing. I know that SSE will sell to many users but that extra, "never played" content would really get people fired up.

I'm amazed at the number of people who expect there to be new content in the remaster. These people do not understand how advertising works if they believe a company would include an exciting new feature in a product - a feature many people have spent years begging for - and not tell anybody about it. That is not the way advertising works. That is not how successful businesses are run.

If ever there was a time to tell customers about a new feature, it would be these last few months. It seems to me that the Special Edition is getting less popular by the day. Resentment is building up against it. Bethesda desperately needs to give people a reason to buy this product. If they haven't tried by now to turn public opinion around by talking about some cool new feature, it is because it doesn't exist.

Hines during an interview said:

"Performance, effects, or whatever we can do to make the game look and feel better, we're going to give it a go."

Here is one source where you can find the details: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/skyrim-remaster-is-as-next-gen-as-possible/1100-6441234/

He was clearly lying. It was just a marketing strategy.

I suppose many of us were expecting something more that slightly improved graphics because of him. Not only that fu.cking damned E3 video, as many tend to believe.

"The game look and feel better"

Graphics and animation, there is nothing in there that even points to new content or even survival mode and many others who were expecting new content were frankly just over anolyzing everything and expecting new things when the purpose of a remaster is just to add fancier graphics and make it playable on current gen, that's it.

I am not even expecting main bug fixes for console!

In fact...I would not even fall through the floor if the OFFICIAL download patches were not built in.

I am quite prepared to find that the first thing that happens upon loading the disc is that the console starts down loading an hours worth of patches.

Bethesda is a ramshackle shower that only ever does half a job.....its what rings across this forum constantly.....

In fact...one has to wonder exactly what WAS Bethesda's goal in bothering with SSE at all......I mean....if they had any REAL enthusiasm for the product the door wouldn't be slammed shut on things like future dlc, console commands, extra content, code repairs etc etc As in fact many posters here are continually mentioning.

Beth could have saved themselves cash and bad press by simply releasing a 'freebee' 64bit compilation for PC users and a XB1/PS4 playable version on disc intended for next gen players xmas stockings.....WITHOUT all the mod support fiasco, uprated graphics and injurous pie crust promises.

If the carrot had not been dangled....the expectations would not have arisen.

I'm surprised someone actually bothered to open the topic about this. :P What does surprise me is what expectations people have. Even the video we got showed absolutely no improvement other than what could be just 2 shaders slapped on.

I'm afraid thats exactly what it means, for as long as I can remember "current gen" and "next gen" in a videogame context specifically refers to graphics options i.e. its a graphical overhaul, thats it.

For the people who had expectations of new content and aditional features other then what Bethesda has stated (mod support and upgraded graphics) they only have themselves to blame.

But like others have posted, adding some new features and content would have made this a much more appealing release. Obviously there will be the more dedicated users out there that will pick this up at full price but I am in agreement that at 60 dollars Bethesda might want to consider adding something more then just mod support and upgraded graphics. I doubt this will happen considering we are less then a month away from release.

But do not get me wrong. I am thankful that Bethesda is making this release, with mods and updated graphics. I am thankful for that. Especially knowing that Elder Scrolls VI is not even on the horizen yet.

They have already stated multiple times that the only changes are graphical.

Impose this mode upon yourself. Make your own survival.

Well, at least that rumor has been put to bed. I just wish Bethesda would come out and say "There isn't going to be any new DLC or mechanics" already. The amount of people who seem to think Bethesda is hiding some sort of game changing DLC package or something is surprisingly high since Beth has never mentioned anything beyond mods for consoles, a 64 bit game and shinier graphics. Where is everyone getting the possibility of a survival mode or anything major from that?
