They are definitley NOT going to make the release date

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2009 1:31 pm

11/11/11? There's no way. Don't get me wrong. I popped major wood when this game was announced, but for it to be released in less than a year, the game has to pretty much be finished right now in order for proper testing to be applied. Unless they plan on releasing a buggy game I just don't see it happening. I'm surprised there was no videos or pictures of game play at the announcement. This does not bode well for achieving that release date.

Todd Howard said well before the announcement that they were already far along with the game and that they already have a great deal of gameplay and content to show for it. The reasons we haven't seen anything yet are marketing ones, not development ones.

They've probably been working on it for a very long time. Probably a little while after Oblivion.

*Shrugs*

I'll trust that Bethesda has a better idea of where the game is than people on an internet forum.

Do you have any evidence to support this? If not then this topic is pointless. They've had a team of 100 people working in full production for nearly 2.5 years. They waited to reveal the game until they had a deadline they were sure they could make. I do not think it will be delayed.

Apparently someone doesn't know the definition of a "teaser" trailer.

Why wouldn't they?

There was an interview with Todd not too long ago. 16 August, 2010

Eurogamer: You've been working on something secret now for two years. Do you have any sense yet of when you will be able to talk about it or even say what it is? Are going to be sat here next year answering the same question?

Todd Howard: I don't know [laughs]. I have a sense but we're not ready even to talk about that, because it might change. I don't want to disappoint people.

One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it's out will be the shortest it's been for us. It's pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there's a lot of game there to play right now.

You know, if Pete Hines came in and said, "I want you to show it," I'd be like, "Okay, I'm ready to show it."
But we've just decided for now not to yet.

If they've been working on the game for two years, I think they'll make the date. Bethesda never gives an exact date until they know they'll make it. They announced Oblivion in 2004; eventually there was a ballpark date of "Holidays 2005". They didn't announce a specific date until they knew they would make it, which turned out to be March 21st, 2006.

choosing the date of 11/11/11 carries a lot of weight, if they were to pick such a monumental day, they are likely very confident of it working.

Besides, its Make-a-Wish day, have some Optimism :celebration:

If they weren't so sure they could make the deadline, they'd have been a lot more vague, like: "Coming in Winter, 2011". Plus, call me crazy, but I'm sure they have quite a few people lined up around the corner to test the next Elder Scrolls game. And that's before the beta, assuming there is one of course.

No, I'm actually fairly certain they will.

Game Informer staffers had seen the game darn near a year ago, and they were wowed then. You have to think that if there's a functional game back then, in the nearly 2 years to follow it's a long time to do basically some fleshing out and a whole lot of bug squashing.

In the last Bethesda podcast, Todd says they have actually been working on it since oblivion(according to the responses on here). And they have 100 people working on it. 4 years and 100 people. I'm slightly surprised its not already done lol

Yeah. Todd himself went so far as to say that it wasn't even a "teaser," so much as being purely an announcement trailer (Bethesda podcast #6).

They're quite deliberately withholding information until they specifically choose to reveal it.

For all you doubters let me tell you this...

Oblivion was announced on September 10, 2004. At this time the game had been in development for roughly two years.
Oblivion was originally announced to be released in the Winter of 2005 (more than a year after official announcement)
Oblivion is delayed until Second Quarter of 2006.
Oblivion is released on March 21, 2006.

History is on my side, folks. Go ahead and bet against me, though.

Well, reading through the comments is reassuring. But to be entirely honest, I would be perfectly fine with them not making the release date.

They didn't want the same thing happening with Skyrim as happened to Oblivion. We get tons of info fairly early on and are then disappointed with the final (yet still awesome!) product.

I'm glad they've played it this way this time. Id rather see what I'm getting so my imagination doesn't run off and ruin that initial play.

History also said that they'd give a release date as a general time period, not an exact date, and that the game would be on a Gamebryo based engine.

Yes they started on it right after Oblivion stated on the podcast and he said they have had 75 people working on it, 100 after Fallout 3. So they have been doing art, story, characters, planning, plus everything else like designing ect since March 2006? That will be over five years working on the game with the most people they have ever had. So i am pretty sure they will make it. BGS are not liars, which is why they keep most of everything under wraps so they know exactly what is going on with their game.

But according to the latest podcast, they have been working on this game since oblivion was finished. 100 people with 4 years, 5 by the time it comes out. Its gonna be done, almost no doubt about it
