They edited out Codsworth's "200 years" line?...

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:35 pm

For the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrX-QT19Ro0 they put out on youtube, Codsworth completely skips over the 200 years part of his dialog; everything else is pretty much the same. You know what would be funny? They haven't wrapped up recording sessions for the voice acting yet. Maybe in the released game Codsworth won't say 200 years, exactly or generally.

As someone pointed out, the trailer is just the Microsoft E3 demo with cleaned up audio, so already back then it was "cut".

I figure that was probably cut just for the sake of time.

The game's not complete - lots of things are going to change between now and then. Even if the game is "feature complete," there's likely to be a fair amount of editing and minor changes going on - this is why I feel it's important to take everything we've seen with a grain of salt.

There wasn't 5 minutes of climbing a rock. So it's really not like Call of Duty!

This dialogue was never in the microsoft E3 trailer. It was only in the Bethesda E3 trailer.

Reason? Because both chose a different option in the dialogue,.,,

It may be because that dialogue involved the character's name. Although I'd imagine they'd just replace the name with "master" or something, they might have simply voiced completely different dialogue.

Not true. Both times (A) "You're still here" was selected. Codsworth's dialogue is different n the Microsoft version, so the dialogue about 200 years isn't there.

Well... if it's anything like Fo3, [and I assume it is], then it will look like it's been 15 years instead of 200. Reading this it occurred to me that actually stating that it had been 200 years, would infringe upon those players that want it to be set in the 50's; even though we know it's set in their next millennium. Perhaps saying it outright was suddenly deemed a 'nono'.

I recall that there were even reviewers that thought FO3 was set in an alternate 1950's.

I wonder if it was to ~not risk the need to explain cryogenics?

Pretty much this.

This isn't a lengthy e3 presentation meant to show off every detail.

It's a gameplay video, and it shows off gameplay.

For example, that whole mole rat encounter was cut. Does this mean mole rats are out of the game?

Of course not. No one would say something as stupid as that (I hope).

Well, maybe those who thought fallout 3 looked like 15 years had passed.

I suspect the dialogue is affected by player's SPECIAL. In E3 showcase the sole survivor has 10 luck while in this video, the sole survivor has 10 charisma.

Its the name, the Bethesda e3 was named Howard, the Microsoft e3 was named Phil Spencer. Changing dialogue to exclude the spoken name.

Yeah, the gameplay footage I linked is the same as what they showed at the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3nYFn-aIno, but in their https://youtu.be/D5esyZPt5Jo?t=11m3s he has an extra line about 200 years.

I could have sworn the 200 years line was in the XB1 presentation, too, but it looks like they edited it out there. Now I'm less convinced than when I made this thread. :T

I don't think people should read too much into these trailers, as they are designed to show what the game is like, rather than how it actually is when you play it. I remember some of the publicity screenshots of Skyrim pre-release showed the interior of a tavern that never actually appeared in the game at all. A good example for F4 would be the layout of the pre-war home; it is quite different in the reveal trailer to the game-play trailer. Bethesda want to show you as much as possible, without telling you very much at all; after all, we don't want everything spoiled before we play the game, do we?

The tavern does appear in-game actually, its the tavern in whiterun. They just moved some furniture around in the final release, but you can tell its the same place because the stuff behind the bar is in the exact same layout and the screenshot.

Its actually the exact same

this is from E3

Whereas this is from the initial reveal trailer

Its the same, from the side table near the back door, to the kitchen area, to the dining room, to the side table behind the dining room table, its exactly the same. The only thing that's different is some clutter items, but the layout is exactly the same. Even the hallway to the bedrooms is the same, with the same hall closet, the same restroom(which the Mr. Handy box is sitting in), and the same location of the baby's room.

I'll take your word on the tavern thing, as I can't be arsed to look for the image I was thinking of.

As for the pre-war home, sorry I should have been more specific: the "living room" area is quite different. The position of the TV, window/no window, log-burning stove, etc.

A lot of the stuff we saw of Skyrim before release was definitely not what we saw in-game; in particular, I remember that the perk trees weren't a match, and the voice acting in some of the Riverwood footage was definitely placeholder. But there's only five months between E3 and November; at this point, I'd guess all the major design, writing, and art work is done and they're just cleaning things up and balancing numbers. I would have guessed that they haven't completely ironed out the perks yet, but they're selling a perk poster with the Collector's Edition, so who knows.

They're definitely also still working on voice acting, as Brian Delaney's said so in interviews. But that's generally something that happens late in development anyway; I wonder if the entire voice cast has been involved for the last two years, or if that was just for the major characters. I wonder if they'll have a "Making of Fallout 4" film after release; I really liked the ones for Oblivion and Skyrim.

It's likely that they it was just the core characters, and possibly just the protagonists, unless other story NPCs are getting more robust dialogue trees.

QFT

This is the exact same thing with people complaining the Doom demo was too slow and linear. It's a damn conference demo, it's meant to show you the fundamentals of what the game is like, in a concise, easy to grasp matter. Of course it's going to be slow and linear, because that level was designed exclusively for demonstration purposes.

I trust that most of the voicework done between now and two years ago was predominately by the main VO's (Courtenay and Brian). A really safe bet would be that they're recording dialogue for the DLC. It's a simple matter of applying the voice files to the character when the frame work is already there (Creation Kit).

I'm sure they have a mountain of ideas that got scrapped for one reason or another that are going to be pitched as DLC ideas. I'm not saying that they cut material specifically for DLC. I'm saying that maybe they wanted to include an area like say, Martha's Vineyard, but it didn't work out for one reason or another, but the person who liked that idea still wants to do it, and spends some down time refining the idea to pitch as DLC.

I don't think the company has everything planned out yet, but I'm sure a fair number of employees are doing some prep work.
