Not all prisoners are villains tough. Some are convicted by mistake and some are blames and convicted out of spite, bogus crimes or just plain framed

True.

But I meant more of public perception than self-perception. Many prisoners think they are wrongly convicted. :P

The player begins as a Blade, no doubt.

And not behind bars.

So in Morrowind we came from the Imperial City's prison and in Oblivion we even started there.

and Arena, Daggerfall. 99% in Skyrim

I think that something is always gonna be Bethesdas thing, its kinda like their trademark for how their game starts. There is no reason to change the prison or something like it theme, and anyone who actually thinks they will change it after the past 4 games have all done it, is silly!

I'd much rather not start off as prisoner. What sounds better is being attacked while riding on a caravan through the snowy mountains. You lose consciousness and memory of much before that, just knowing that everyone else didn't survive. You eventually make it to the nearest town and after befriending a sympathetic shopkeeper, you set out for revenge upon the petty thieves with some equipment the store owner has let you borrow. Whichever equipment you decide to borrow helps determine your class. After that the main story line eventually pops up. Or something :P

I'm just oh-so tired of starting out as a prisoner. I've gone through the opening OB game play at least 30 times. Probably more for Morrowind which was shorter. I know it's somewhat of a trademark, though so it might upset the purists for it to be any other way.

Oblivion doesn't make an automatic permanent save before you exit the sewers, but it's possible to do that manually. In Morrowind, it's not possible; you can't save before you exit the room with Sellius Gravius and enter Seyda Neen proper.

I'd like to see a variation on the New Vegas intro, but with misadventure instead of an attack as the cause of your near death.

I hope they keep the tradition. Its a smooth start into the game and you can make up your own reason why youre there. :)

We could take it one step further and start at the gallows just about to be hanged.

I would actually like for them to be a little more original. Why keep repeating the same thing over. I am sure they can come up with something other than being a prisoner again... Why should every major hero in Tamriel history start off serving a sentence in jail... Maybe that isnt the kind of person your character is.

Here is one, How about you wake up in a tavern in the middle of the woods, maybe there is a big battle going on and you run into a guy that makes you follow him through a secret trapdoor that leads through some tunnels as the intro. See that is a completely new idea and it took less than a minute to come up with. It is also a good neutral place, maybe you are just a trader passing through, maybe someone found you knocked out in the woods and brought you there. Its not like your possibilities would be limited. However being in jail implements that you are a criminal scum and should be dealt with accordingly. :P

Repetition is boring, i want something innovative and new.

Something just occurred to me while watching the trailer again. What if, while in prison, the player is approached by the blades and tasked with helping Dovahkiin break out of prison? That would be a pretty epic start to the story.

I have to say, that out of any game I've ever played in my entire life...The opening to Morrowind felt the most genuine and epic. That was Azura's voice in the dream wasn't it?

Anyway, even if it's not a prisoner, the presentation and delivery of the beginning should have the same effect that Morrowind's beginning did. A feeling of wonder and pure curiosity at the prospect of exploring a new world.

I always wonder what my character did to end up in prison in the first place. Especially if they were good natured. I'd prefer the ability to have multiple starting points, one being as a prisoner.

It helps with the role playing aspect. I always had to come up with a different back story as to why my new character was in prison.

They should implement a prison dungeon system like the Fallout Vaults!

Awww... come on! You knew it was gonna be brought up sooner or later!

I'm not bothered by starting as a prisoner - I'm bothered that once I start playing the game I will once again lose 2 years of my life to Bethesda, 5 if I turn to mods.
