well, I wouldn't mind starting in a prison, but not necessarily as a prisoner.

Well in Daggerfall you started out in a dungeon. Perhaps they could do something in that vein, perhaps with mountains?

As long it doesn't involve an unskippable tutorial dungeon crawl thing I'm fine with that. That got really old in Oblivion and Fallout 3, I'd rather just get out there.

I like the prison beginning, it would be nice if you could pick your "crime".

Hope it's more like the Oblivion break-out, too. That beginning was fun....

I certainly hope they keep going in that type of direction. It really helps me with the whole roleplaying aspect of it. I don't wanna be givin a backround made by the developers, i want to be able to make up my own story as if it were my own.

:lmao: Well, tutorials, eh. Hard to avoid. But admit it, coming to the bright light of the city after that much crawling in goblin gloom, it was something.

Well judging by the trailer dragons are coming back and they are PISSED! So hopefully it'll start with some sort of dynamic interactive cutscene where we are being transferred at night and are in a carrage or prison cart when it becomes under attack by a dragon, roaring and fire and stuff and since we are the "dragonborn" the dragon is attacking to kill us but gets distracted by the guards and we escape

Ooh, that sound like it could be an awesome opening. I like it!

Yes it was. :) But we couldn't skip the half an hour tutorial so we all created a save game just before exiting the dungeon. :D

If there is a civil war going on I could see starting as a POW.

You always start as a prisoner, seems to be a ES tradition, no need to change now.

Oh yes. That and constant pop-ups. If I have one single hope, it's for the ability to at least desactivate both. Let us figure things out for ourselves, damnit.

On their facebook page, I read an immense block of text posted by someone. Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/board.php?uid=131368351403#!/topic.php?uid=131368351403&topic=15196 . Look for the one posted by Jay Littlejohn. I found it really interesting.

Well i say NO only as a wish for a different beginning, but starting as a prisoner or refugee of a shipwreck, or whatever, is also a good start imho.

Both Fallout 3 and Oblivion made a save after the tutorial so you could skip it.
Morrowind had not but it was only a short set up your character intro.

Prison intro works nice for me.

Possibly a new recruit in the army, fill out your forms and decide what type of position you would be best suited to.

Even though it's already been used twice, I don't mind the idea yet again.

The idea of being a prisoner is getting old, don'tyouthink.

I don't think so, it's what makes the beggining of TES series unique.

I don't like the idea of starting in a prison. It automatically starts your character off on the wrong foot. "Hello shopkeeper! Don't mind me smelling like seweage, there's a perfectly logical explanation for that...and the shackles? Funny story about them...Look, I'm just another ordinary citizen. Honest!"

I guess that's why there's so many alternate start mods.

Wait, really? Perhaps the terms "dungeon" and "prison" have become synonymous in my mind. It felt rather like a prison, in any case. :P

I'd like to see it again, for that feeling of familiarity that I'm sure all the fans would experience, but something's telling me that they're going to take a different route this time and I don't mind that at all.

I actually like the half hour dungeon-crawl tutorial/intro. Great way to tinker a bit with the game mechanics and it's the build up to the big 'reveal' of the World. Something like the escape from the Vortex Rikers, for those old enough to remember that.

Yes to the prisoner story, it's a tradition.
I do hope that they streamline the tutorial section down to its barest minimum though, Oblivion's and Fallout3's was far too long in my opinion. I think FNV's one is much cleverer giving you the opportunity to get out of the tutorial very early on.

To be clear, the story unfolding during the tutorials has always been very good, and I appreciated the tutorial trying to fit into the game more organically, there was just way too much of it. In my humble opinion.

I would like a prison escape similar to Gears of War 1, but not entirely the same. Since there may be a civil war going on, one side could be trying to destroy the prison and the other trying to defend it.
Guards are opening all the cells and making the prisoners defend the prison, in exchange for freedom. So you get out of your cell, make your way to the exit all while fighting enemies, etc. You make your way out, and you're a free man/woman.

EDIT: Maybe it isn't that similar to GoW at all... But, oh well.

I better not have to start as a prisoner :stare:

At least, not in the criminal sense of the word as in Oblivion.
