So in Morrowind we came from the Imperial City's prison and in Oblivion we even started there. It's not only those two though, the prison is kind of an Elder Scrolls tradition. So do you guys think we'll come from a prison, or even start in one, once again? I'd say the chances are pretty high, and in the trailer the "Dragon Born" does look Imperial, meaning he could be from the empire. Thoughts?

I'm thinking we wake up after some sort of attack with no memory.

The trailer hints at a civil war (or did i look into it wrong?) if that's the case though, and they do make it a prison intro, i think theres a good chance you'd be a prison to one of the warring factions of the civil war.
I'd like to think you break out of prison rather than be released, with some sort of aid from some story character.
Maybe that takes away the possability of you being unknown, but who knows, i'd personally not care if you were a prisoner or a shepherd.

I imagine so. It'll be interesting to see how they work it in.

I'd say you're a jailer in the game.

Yeah, chances are. Rather big, as traditions go, don't see them breaking it.

Hope it's more like the Oblivion break-out, too. That beginning was fun.

Even though it's already been used twice, I don't mind the idea yet again.
Whatever it happens to be, I hope you start off with nothing, with no information as to your past.
I don't think they'll do it again though, as they're probably fearful of being criticised for their lack of.. renewity. If that's a word?

It's becoming a staple of the series and I wouldn't mind if they continued the trend. It always makes me wonder why my character ended up in jail in the first place, which leads to all kinds of fantasizing about their history... which, if you ask me, is great. :D

Personally I believe they will skip it... Now what I want them to do is harder to know...

I really like starting as a prisoner, I think it's kind of a TES gimmick.

The music in the trailer seems straight from Conan the Barbarian so I would not be suprised to find my PC chained to a giant wheel.

That's why they do it in the first place, I guess. They need to give an open beginning to the char, so it could be anyone, with any job, any race and any past. Why bother trying to figure out another way to give that to the player, when they could hold onto the continuity of the series ? And they seem to want to hold onto a few things, if the Soul-ish theme music is any indication.

I like the whole prisoner thing. But I wouldn't say no to something happening like in Daggerfall. Your ship crashes and you manage to make it safely into a cave.
Which ends up being a huge starter dungeon. I honestly don't care what it is. I'll just be happy I'm playing TES V :D

I'm not going to make a Nostalgia Critic joke here okay?

Personally, I don't mind if they used the same prison tradition again, but I'd like to see something new. The prisoner thing is kinda cliché.

I don't mind the unknown, jailbird intro. I mean, it gives a lot for RPers to work with, rather than "You are rank such-and-such in General so-and-so's army."

Well judging by the trailer dragons are coming back and they are PISSED! So hopefully it'll start with some sort of dynamic interactive cutscene where we are being transferred at night and are in a carrage or prison cart when it becomes under attack by a dragon, roaring and fire and stuff and since we are the "dragonborn" the dragon is attacking to kill us but gets distracted by the guards and we escape

It's not actually TES tradition, but I hope that we do start as the prisoner (unless they implement some kind of background system that allows me to start in different places). It's a good way to start with a clean slate.

Soule-ish music, then. *rolleyes* :P

Totally agreed on the second comment.

Prison has worked pretty well in the past, I'd say stick to it. That way you can create your character's background for yourself, instead of having a predetermined history or motivation for being in Skyrim.

Well, we will at least start in a secluded location. That's always been in TES, and if I don't want one thing from the stories changed, it's this.
Need not be a cave or prison, just the PC, separated from the world.

Maybe you arrive by boat, are shipwrecked, and get imprisoned in ice? :P
