Thread: "Oh yeah guys we didn't want you to wait any longer so, yeah we released Fallout 4 today."- Todd Howard
When asked why they didn't announce months ahead of time.
"We wanted players to be completely surprised, so we kept our mouths shut until the game was complete and ready to ship."
Game sells 30 million copies... I guess you could say their advertisemant.... Just Works.
While I'm sure Fallout 4 will be a phenomenal game, I'm personally not a fan of having to pay $60 for a game and $30 for a season pass in which we know next to nothing about either. BGS is expecting quite a leap of faith from its fan base. I'd at least appreciate a semblance of what we could expect in at least the season pass. Even Ubisoft does that and their season passes have been historically bad. Not knowing what we are getting for $30, on the other hand, is downright troubling.
I guess it's a good thing a gun isn't pointed at your head forcing you to purchase the game and season pass.
Figuratively speaking, no, but that's exactly what BGS wants everybody to do. Why even bother saying there will be a season pass now? They could have waited until they know what at least the first DLC is. Why place all these price tags and tell us nothing? BGS just recognizes there will be those who will blindly buy any and all of their products, and certainly many of those folks are on these forums.
They haven't put the pass up for sale either. They've simply laid out their future plans for people to know. They most likely won't even put up the season pass until after the game is released, or after the trailer for the first dlc. They've shown quite a bit of gameplay to give the general idea of what the game is like. People who need more information should wait until the game is released to see larger chunks of gameplay. Bethesda have already stated they aren't spoiling the story before release. So any and all footage they do show will be similar to what we've seen at E3, minus the character creation portion of course.
Lets not make assumptions here. Just because the season pass isn't available yet does not mean it won't be available before release. In most cases, a season pass is available for order before a game is released. That's the trend in the gaming industry. The game is still two months away and announcing the season pass now gives them time to start charging for it before release while also giving people notice it's coming.
I don't believe anyone is asking for the story to be spoiled. Most gamers don't even care about story in BGS games because they are historically bad. People just want to see general game play and how the game flows. It's the open world and exploration that most people care about in a BGS game. We've seen snippits, but not alot. We have more questions than answers, and that can be a dangerous thing when trying to decide whether you want to buy something or not.
I just fear for the content in the game... So far we have no substance. Nothing about story.... And the sandbox aspect is fun but if I'm running around killing stuff for no important cause then it wouldnt be worth the time.
In Fallout 3 we got a little info and backstory in the 5 part walkthrough videos.
In Skyrim we got to know that we were the dragonborn and pretty much had to save the world from alduin.
I guess my point is, since we were presented/shown only "features" it somehow makes me feel that the story based content and quest wont be that interesting. I could be wrong and it could wind up being like the witcher 3, where a lot of content wasnt shown but was still awesome. Only time will tell...
Bethesda isn't Ubisoft, with 28 studios and hundreds of employees on hand to work on a games content. They also released information on the geck/creation kit. All apart of what they plan for the future of Fallout 4... not the short term, but the long term. You are also making assumptions that just because the majority of large gaming companies do something one way, that bethesda will also do the same. In reality, they follow the tune of their own drum.
lmao
where is my tinfoil hat
really so why all they secrecy and why only exclusive previews to a very select group of game journalist who probably getting well paid for the reviews they will write
i lost all interest in this game , i had plans to pre order the game a week before launch , i now will wait after a few monts after and after i read some honest reviews about it
i burned myself already too often on overhyped games
Probably because people have been calling bethesda out for the overboard marketing of Skyrim, so they decided to dial it back a bit... and now people are complaining about the lack of marketing. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
So, what, now that they're actually not hyping the crap out of the game before release you're burned out anyway?
He thinks that the lack of marketing.... is hyping the game to extreme levels.
Modding tools are always in the works with BGS games and this has been precedent since Morrowind in 2002. That's not a surprise to anyone. A season pass, on the other hand, is brand new and definitely a practice BGS took from the other gaming giants in the industry.
The fact BGS is doing a season pass shows "bethesda will also do the same." I can understand why they'd do it because they are guaranteed more money. Not everyone who bought Skyrim bought all the DLC. Some may have just bought Dawnguard and not the rest. With the season pass, it's one price for all the content and people are more likely to grab it when BGS says they are saving ten dollars.
Bethesda is smart, and I am sure they know what they are doing. They released enough when it was announced to get a lot of people hyped and preorder. Now trying to keep people hyped for months can be quite hard. Seems like they will wait until a little bit closer to release and than slowly start a hype towards the release. But ultimately they will want people to play the game and answer alot of their questions themselves.
On the season pass, any other company I would not trust if they said they hadnt even planned anything yet. But I trust this leap of faith, and if it cocks up they have a lot to lose if they ever do a season pass again. Just about trust, and Todd and his team put a lot out to their players.
Poor Pete though, his twitter will continue to explode all the way to release and beyond with the same questions over an over an ov....
Maybe someone in Bethesda used their brain for something else than sale figures and doesn't want to take more surprises/discovery from players than "necessary".
I actually like this. Always hated it when devs spoil everything about their game before it's even released. Where's the fun and the mystery after that? It's just 'Oh yeah, I saw that in the 14th photo they released!' or 'Oh wait, this is the part I saw in the GameCon demo few months back. I know what to look for.'
Call it a hunch, but I think they may be releasing both the QuakeCon/Gamescom footage as well as the first SPECIAL video at some point tomorrow. This would allow for one further video each week, with the last one being released on October 23rd. If they don't do this, then we probably won't be seeing much else until November 10th.
Check on your head, it sounds like you're already wearing it.
Neither the Quakecon nor the Gamescom previews were exclusive to journalists. Both demos were shown at fan events to everyone who was in attendance. As I've said many times before, I hope they will release that video soon so the rest of us can see it too. I'm pretty sure they'll do it before the game comes out.
As for secrecy, they've plainly said that they will not spoil anything about the story before release. There will be the SPECIAL videos drip-fed to us during the build-up to the release date, so we'll have something else to see soon.
If you're not sure you want to buy the game, then by all means wait for reviews. There's no bonus for pre-ordering, so it's not like you'll miss out on anything.
I'm not sure how you can complain that they're not saying or showing anything, and then in the next breath accuse them of over-hyping the game, though. Clearly they're not driving the hype. With a game this highly-anticipated, they don't need to, we can get hyped up all by our selves. Nothing they show or don't show will really change that. A Fallout game is coming, hype is inevitable.
Anyone else remember the days when all you had was an article in a magazine to go on as to whether to buy a game or not? No Youtube, no forums, no marketing websites. Just a two page spread and the back of the box.
Simpler times, but we have changed and as consumers we want to know what we're getting. Personally I already know what I'll be getting; hundreds of hours of Bethesda gameplay. Bethesda have not led me astray so far. They aren't perfect, far from it, but they consistently give me play time and value for money.
I am actually quite enjoying this quieter take on marketing. I think most people already know if they want it or not, more info won't actually change that. I think at this point I'd actually avoid any more "big reveals" so as to enjoy the game more once it is released.
nah from all the information bethesda gave on, e3 and interviews i concluded the following
this is a linear narrative driven story so linear ity will be pretty painfull with a already set protagonist , only how he looks you can change , only thing you as a player need to do is shoot things and ooh you also get a so obnoxious absolute stupid dog as a companion because all other companions AI will pretty much svck
since this is a already set and voiced protagonist you will have to endure a endless parade of the most stupid senseless cinematic cutscenes
and since they now using a rbberbandscaling system that sill kill any form of exploration you have no other choice than to go along with the scripts they prepared for us and as a distration we also get a fallout version of monecraft
i am sicj and tired of gaming companies treating their customers as a bunch of un imaginitive stupid kids who needs their hand s hold
and bethesda seems to be next gamestudio doing that do their fans
