Do they leave "glitches" on purpose?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 8:07 am

As many of you know there are several "glitches" you can do in skyrim, like placing a bucket on someones head and robbing their entire store, or getting your house for free.
Do you think that bethesda knows about these things pre-release and just doesn't fix them because they are not game breaking?

No I think they do it because it's fun(ny).
Edit: Also the bucket thing isn't a glitch. If I put a bucket on your head and then stole something you wouldn't see me stealing it.

As been said a hundred times before.. Glitches and bugs are pack-and-parcel with Bethesda releases. Sooner you learn this the better. They release-then-fix. Still not happy? Then just await the mods that are already coming in.

Anyway, as Knowing says, I am unsure why that is a glitch? :P

THey've said it before that if they think its funny and doesn't hinder the game, they leave it in.

Of course they forget that most of the time, its that silly [censored] that ruins the immersion and the fun. Especially after it happens a second, third, twentieth time.

Bethesda make great open world games, but a lot of their abilities and design decisions leave a lot to be desired with. They're a mediocre developper parading under a safety net filled with rare genre games.

They get what they can but during testing I don't think any one was like let's put a bucket on that guy's head

Skyrim has far fewer glitches than past Beth titles, and for that I'm happy. New Vegas was a mess, a disgrace.

You know how I kept the "immersion and the fun" going on my stealth character?

Wait for it...

Here it comes...

You won't have guessed it...

I don't put buckets on people's heads.

Seriously, is everyone on this forum incapable of self-control? Fast-travel, quest markers, the compass, buckets on people's heads, crafting exploits: these are all things you have to decide to use. If they ruin your experience, don't use them.

Massive RPG's of TES' size will always result in bugs and glitches. Try playing a German RPG like the Gothic series (only 1 and 2), Two Worlds or Risen. Now those have serious bugs and usually don't get patched until a year later. Those games pale in comparison to Skyrim's size. Smashing every bug for every situation would be impossible on a short term scale. Over time they will work them out.

They aren't so much as glitches as they are gaming the game. If you can find clever mechanics to bypass certain parameters you should give yourself a pat on the back.

Honestly, I'm surprised someone hasn't already came out with a large bug and glitch list for a) the community B) Bethesda.

Beth is just horrible at QA and generally relies on modders to fix their games. Lucky they tend to make such damn good worlds.

THIS. The ONLY thing I can sympathize with is the compass, since it's always there and you can't really ignore it. Otherwise, it's all on the player to break the game.

Pretty much what I was about to say.

It's not a "glitch", It's an exploit. This isn't an MMO or any other kind of online competitive game.

Just don't use it, problem solved.

Its costs them money, and it chips away at their reputation; So no, I doubt they would do it deliberately. You work on something for ages and things like that can just never occur to you; and when they do... something else didn't.

I have heard of developers leaving it in because they found out too late; but I'm pretty sure they would have preferred finding in time to fix, rather than have to add it to the list for the patch.

Bug fixes work on a priority system. Many bugs are left in on a shipped game because they're not deemed worth fixing.

A fix to one bug can cause other bugs. So, it's impossible to fix everything as it is. Fixing low priority bugs at a late stage can cause higher priority bugs to pop up, leaving you to never release ever. They'll still fix what they can if they have the time, but they have to judge if it's likely to break anything else. And if they do fix one thing and it does break something else, they might undo the fix.

Aside from fixing a bug causing other bugs, they have limited manpower and limited time. If it's a choice between fixing a bug that causes the game to crash and fixing LOS rules, they fix the crash and ship with a LOS problem.

In terms of serious glitches, I'm sure they don't willingly leave it in unless they find out too late. But I wouldn't be surprised if they leave in things like the bucket on people's head thing just because it is funny and not game breaking. Personally, I think stuff like that makes bethesda games better. It may break immersion a bit, but it's amusing, and it's fun to try to figure out stuff like that.

New Vegas wasn't made by Bethesda.

surely the process of sticking a bucket on anyone's head whether to steal or not to steal is immersion breaking i mean do you go around in real life trying to put buckets on peoples heads?

no you don't ( unles your 5 and on the beach).

it's one thing to be "immersion breaking" but when you break it yourself instead of it being a bug you can't complain.
