They should patch the equiment naming system

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 7:01 pm

When a piece of Combat Armor is modified, for instance, instead of this:

Nanoweave Deep Pocketed Combat Armor Chest Piece

The default name should become this:

Combat Armor Chest Piece: Nanoweave, Deep Pocketed

That would make things a lot easier to keep track of in alphabetized footlockers without having to go to the effort to manually rename every single thing (which can be slow work on a console). Not sure how big a deal that would be to change, but I'd sure love to see it.

Well.. They did add a customisable naming system. So instead of being lazy, rename them yourself? Even if its just A for *set armour* B for another

It doesn't take much to rename them yourself.

Isn't using a cryptic default naming system when an orderly one was well within reach an even better example of laziness?

If it's stuff I'm making myself I do rename it. But I don't think it's laziness to not want to spend 20 minutes renaming the armor I've taken off a dozen dead raiders that I'm not ready to scrap just yet. I'd prefer to be able to toss it in a footlocker and spend that 20 minutes actually playing the game.

My cable television company recently went through some changes with their on-screen guide. Sports programming, in this case, an example college basketball game was described thus:

"The (4-1) Green Blossoms take on the (2-3) Mud Pies in a regional clash at Picket Fence Den."

Was I lazy when I called the cable company and complained that no one but alma maters would have any idea of who was plating in that game?

I offered the obvious solution, which they took to heart and actually implemented within 2 days - which was to use the OP's nomenclature going forward. So now the description would read:

"Smithtown College, GA vs Upper Tennesse Valley State: The (4-1) Green Blossoms take on the (2-3) Mud Pies in a regional clash at Picket Fence Den."

I agree with OP, and I have tried to rename them that way, but for some reason when you edit the name it gives you fewer characters to use than it started with, so you can't actually include all the mod info in the name unless you leave it as default (which then svcks for alphabetization). Same problem with weapons too, which i am finding more annoying than the armor.

But... it's twice improved, that means it's double as good right? http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s240/Axe_Gaijin/2015-11-20_00002.jpg~original

But yeah, just re-name it.

I also agree with the OP. Never force a user to do what computers can do easier. That is User Interface 101. Come on people; I am as big a FO fan as anyone, but if we don't give/accept constructive criticism, we get stagnation.

Yes! What the heck is up with this? Auto named stuff has like a billion characters but when I go to rename I'm limited to like 20 which means they all get lame generic names from me.p like "-Companion Laser Ri". And I can't even fit in all of Rifle.

I know, right? With my favorite shotgun, I just gave up and called it "Bessie," because there's much less variety with those in terms of ammo type and base function, other than single or double barrel, so I really only need one of them, and didn't feel the need to have all the mods this particular item has in its name. But I have a couple different types of pipe pistol, pipe revolver pistol, pipe rifle, pipe revolver rifle, etc, with specific kinds of mods to address particular situations, and I just can't really come up with a custom name for them that makes sense and still gives important descriptive info, within their character limits. So they remain the "Night-Vision Compensated Hardened Marksman's Pipe Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle" :P

You know what's infuriating? (well ... annoying) .... using the rename tool to find out that it only allows for a much shorter name than the one that was there already!

I have about 100+ hours into the game and have just recently stopped picking up leather and raider armor...so...ya...renaming hundreds and hundreds of pieces of armor would take all day. At one point I started to switch out the mods when I went to dump off junk when I was at capacity and decided against it because it added and extra 5 mins every time I went home. The OP, IMHO, has the right of the situation.

After even 2 hours if youre gonna walk around picking up tier 1 raider/leather all its useful for is scrapping anyway?

Why on earth decide "oh ill scrap it later" when theres most likely workbenches right next to where you store stuff?

Staph being lazy then complaining about it. This game is designed to have hours on end sunk into it

I have a compulsion to take everything. I am a locust. I know I have a problem. I'm also rich because of it so at least I got that going for me.

I agree that the item name should come first, I had a hard time finding a weapon I stashed but on the other hand I should've renamed it before stashing it.

Or you could've simply turned on the game and looked who was playing :P

It's not, trust me. I've literally taken User Interface 101 as a class (it was usability).

I am a Boy: John Jones.

That doesn't work (it's also not the most apt example, but I'll just roll with it). That's not how names work in English. The descriptors precede the object. That's not to say the way it works now is perfect - far from it I'd say. However, I'd rather them rework the UI so that the items are better categorized rather than have them using a different naming convention.
