Thief/Assassin...with a Shield.

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:11 am

I really like playing as a thief/sneaky character but I also like shields cause blocking is really fun in this game, i feel it adds a new dimension. Would I be gimping myself by not going dual daggers as a thief? I was thinking of using bows for long range, and when enemies get in my face, I would use a shield and sword/dagger.

Should i put points into block? Oh, and does our off-hand (left) weapon equip effect the damage done by sneak attacks from melee daggers? cause Sneak has a perk that gives dagger x15 damage and was wondering if i need dual daggers to get its benefit. I was thinking for perks: one-handed,archery, sneak, maybe light-armor and block.

Sorry this is my first Elder Scrolls game, I tried finding info on it, no luck.

thanks

Do whatever the hell you want broski.. that's the beauty of TES.. you won't be dueling outside of org so you really can't "gimp" yourself. I'm about 95% sure you gotta dual wield to make the perk effective bro..

Having only one dagger affects nothing of sneak bonuses. The bonus is calculated only off the weapon you use for the attack, so having another one equipped as well makes it neither better nor worse.

Use a shield if you want. That's the beauty of this game.

A single dagger is usually sufficient, get smithing up to craft the better ones early if you want. Yeah that could work, what ever you want to do to be honest.

World of Warcraft related.

Org = Orgrimmar, the major Horde capital in WoW.

I've been thinking of trying the same. While I think dual daggers are a true thief/assassin build, I still feel when going toe to toe with some AI, using a shield may be just as effective. Im not sure how much protection shields offer vs arrows, swords, magic though.

Lol that's a reference to wow.. the point that I'm trying to get across is that you can run around with a 2h wep and a robe and still wreck shop without worrying about if your build is equally as efficient as the next players.

shield perks broski.. arrows do no damage and you can resist magic with a shield up to 50%(maybe a tad more??)

thanks guys :) much love

Nice to hear that the sneak attack is sufficient with one dagger. And yea, I should probably just play the game but I'm loving it so much and I don't want my character to end up being a weakling.

I've actually used a shield + dagger for a while, but im not too keen on actual fair and square combat by going head to head with my enemies like a warrior, being all stealth like, so in the end i just use a daedric dagger in my right hand and a spell in the left, usually invisibility or some other illusion spell. it gives a great option for playing around.

And can't a shield hold an enchantment? At least it could in the other games...

Haha, imagine a turtling thief. That would really make many NPCs mad.
