Thief's Questl line is broken

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:31 am

I started the thief's quest line in Riften, the first quest was ok till he wanted to meet me down in the thief's hangout (Red flaggorn?). Anyways i went down and he was there, i spoke to him and he kept talking and told me about some lowlifes i have to take care of. The quest never updated and he returned to the market. So i did some digging and found the commands in the console (PC VERSION) to get him to come down to the hideout and i was able to continue to the next quest Loud and Clear.

Well now i finished that and he wants me to follow him but he just stands there.......in the market, telling me to follow him. So i did the command again in the console as before. He just walks right back to the market and stands there, doing nothing...telling me to follow him. Any hints? this is common right? The next patch...kind of seems like a joke. So what if dragons don't encounter you every time lol, i liked that. just letting the powers that be know.

I went through the thief quests 3 times now and never had any problems - except that 1 quest item (the journal) never leaves my inventory (and can not be dropped).

How exactly did you "take care" of these lowlifes?

sixually of coarse, but in all seriousness i followed his advice and did the quest properly. Hard to explain without spoilers, but lets just say i never killed them. I finished it and handed in what he wanted...then he says follow me. Like i said, he does nothing. I know this quest line has issues from many players. But i haven't come across him being stuck twice yet in my google search.

Taking care of the lowlifes is a quest required to kick off the Thieves Guild line, it's part of the quest chain. Did you actually do the quest and it just didn't update, or did you just console command through the stages?

That's weird, I haven't run across that one in four runthroughs of that quest. I have had issues in later Thieves Guild quests. He just sits in the market?

When he asks you to follow him he's normally at the flaggon, take him back down there with console commands and try again.

I will try my best to explain this better. I did Taking care of business.....it got stuck after i met him in the hideout below Riften. I was not able to continue to the next quest because he was stuck in the market and i was suppose to talk to him in the hideout and even though i already did and he told me about the next quest....he just said for me to talk to him at the hideout because the walls have ears but yet he went back to the market anyways and stayed there for DAYS. So i consoled through that and brought him to the hideout. I was able to continue on to Loud and Clear quest, he returned to the market. I met each shop keeper and got their money and handed it in. He said good job and offered me a role in the thief guild, i said i'm in something about if it pays well. then i think he says i have something to show you follow me. Thats it. He stands there. I tried the console trick again, but he returns to the market and stands there.

I think i'm done for the night, but i tried to console trick again in the hideout before and he actually walked back to the market lol. I will try ...at the front doors maybe? I dunno, my concern is that if its not a popular problem, then im [censored] for this quest line.

The larceny items broke for me. I still have 3 of them in my inventory but the game decided to label the 'return this item to Delvin' quests as done so now when I speak to him I don't have the option to sell them to him.

I got this too, on my first playthrough.

I'm on a PS3, and pretty much the same thing. I was hoping 1.2 had a fix, but alas. In my case, I did kill some folk in the Ratway. Brynolf never comes down to the Flagon.

Of course then there's the questline destroying bug that keeps you from finishing if you no longer have your thieve's guild armor any more. It seems lots of people have this issue and those of us playing on console are completely unable to finish the questline without starting over. I know the internet is quick to flame and say "YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT ALL YOUR STUFF FOREVER HERPDERP", but why would a major quest item be sellable in the first place? I have tons of items weighing me down from quests that I can't sell or get rid of, and those are inconsequential ones.

Easy Fix:
1. Make the thieves guild armor upgrade dialogue an additional dialogue option in addition to Tonilia's fence ability and the ability to get your Guild Master Armor (!)

OR

2. Make Thieves Guild Armor Unsellable

OR

3. Include another set somewhere in a closet somewhere.

I'm really pleased with my experience overall, having put in 100+ hours and only scratching the surface, but come on, this is a simple fix, a common problem, with massive setbacks.

Well the update didn't fix it. I ultimately decided to revert to an old save, lost 5 hours. Immediately went to do the thief's quests over again and this time its going smoothly. I don't know what the problem was, but svcks i have to redo some quests.
