Thieves Guild FAIL

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 11:30 pm

Im a very avid skyrim player and just completed (well, almost completed) the thieves guild quest, but i came across a problem.
Playing as a greedy orc has its ups and downs but when i entered the thieves guild and recieved their overpriced but useless armor i decided to sell it.
Little did i know that about 40 hours of gameplay later i could not and would not be able to complete the entire questline for the guild without 1 piece of armor!!!!
Hopefully there will be a bug fix in the upcoming patch for the game but id like to know if you have been experiencing any problems in your world of SKYRIM?

Been playing as a mage up until now. Just rolled a new theif last night and joined the guild. Good to know, I'll hold on to that armor for now.

The thieves guild was OK imo. The only thing I didn't like was me having to become
Spoiler
Nocturnals b1tch for eternity to complete the guilds main quest.

And like a previous poster said they seem more like a Mafia organization this time around.

I don't understand how people can just toss unique items like that. I store unique EVERYTHING. I've got staves, plate armour, 2 handed axes any unique item I have to keep. It's an OCD thing I have to be able to have every item at least somewhere stored away... but everyone is different so..

qft
I liked the Thieve's guild in Morrowind and Oblivion since they centered around the thrill of stealing/intrusion while being undetected. So far the Skyrim Thieve's Guild has me feeling like a thug not a thief.

You need to keep at least one piece. Otherwise Tonilla's dialog won't continue past the Upgrade Armor dialog, and if you can't get past that part of her dialog then the questline is stuck.

Can't it be obtained in any other way? Hmm, in that case it's just poor design by bethesda. They should add a few pieces of the armor just laying around and also have Tonilla sell them.

I thought the same thing - this time around I felt more like a thug than a thief. I wasn't completely disappointed by the questline, but a heavier focus on, well, thieving would have been nice.

It is more Mafia centric (which is what a thieve's guild would be...) but I felt that a lot of quests were very thief-y. I can say that "numbers jobs" are pretty lame, but fishing / bedlam jobs, and everything vex has all make me feel like a thief.

The Thieve's guild in oblivion was also cool. I have to say basically being able to do whatever you want in half of skyrim is pretty awesome.

I agree.

If a guild gives you and item one should expect that you will probably have to use it later.

At the very least, store it. Let it collect dust if you want, but I've put ~200 hours in the game and haven't really come across any appropriate armor other than Thieves Guild/Dark brotherhood (Nightingale excluded since the upgrade-piece quest is prior to that) to sneak in. What do people expect when they want to play through the thieves guild?

"Here's some armor specifically tailored to the kinds of jobs you'll be doing while working for us."
"PFF. VENDOR TRASH"

I can't follow this logic.

That's a really stupid comment. There's no reason to think it's going to be quest objective required much, much later in the game. And for any char who is not wearing light armor, it's useless. And more significantly, the bonuses on the armor are completely useless. Those skills don't need any bonus to be effective. If you are wearing them instead of +health or +stamina or any number of other buffs, you are gimping yourself.

To the OP, if you are playing on a PC you can spawn a piece via the console and complete the quest.

Since my post was on the bottom of the first page, I'll quote myself for you;

Not when it's your bog standard welcome to the group armor, was the DB armor needed for anything, or the legion armor? The only time IIRC you actually needed a piece of armor for anything was in Morrowind and then you could just buy any imperial armor for like 50 gold. Any ways by the time I got it the enchantments svcked, and the hood glitched when wearing it partially balding out the my character's hair while not actually covering anything. It was also pretty silly to make all but one suit of it non-playable. Not that I actually care, I'll just console command it when the quest comes up :celebration:

You both misunderstand. It's like the Mafia and Maven's thugs at first, it's your job to fix that.

However, with Maven it's justified. She's a well funded ally. As Brynjolf? mentioned, you NEED those kinds of backers. You did in Oblivion, too. They're required to survive and function.
Maven is kind of a [censored], yes. But a necessary evil.
