Things to do in Fallout New Vegas

Post » Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:30 am

I think I explain my POV on the subject in the threads I linked.
I have no intention of derailing this into a "Legion are good!" or "Legion vs NCR vs House" thread.
You want my opinion on it then read the threads I linked.

But yes, in short, Legion aren't exactly the nicest cats around but their goal is noble and by far the best for the future of the wasteland when compared to the other factions in 2281, even if they use slavery, crucifixion and sixism.

Indeed, They aren't "nice" they use cruel methods but they are undeniable effective at controlling and deterring a feral tribal culture. Under Legion control the region would be pacified very effectively I'd think. Don't yo uremember Cass talkign about how traders and roads in legion control being pretty much 100% safe. While NCR controlled route being held up all the time?

Not sure if it counts as derailing ;)

Topic: "Things to do in new Vegas"
Answer: debate the merits of slavery vs imperialism.

P.S. I think Marcus might have an issue with your "CL will never fail" theory. I can't remember his exact quote, but his prediction was: The Legion follow Caesar, not Caesar's motives. When he dies, the legion will crumble.

I find myself agreeing with the big lug. If i had to gamble, I'd wager on the large establishment with a chain of command and clear hierarchy, rather than the glorified cult whose leader is rather old.

Meltdown is frigging sweet. Hehe. Makes Sierra Madre much easier.

How's this for something to do : make a character with 100% laser crit chance and meltdown. Then smuggle Pew Pew into a casino and, well ....

Should really not continue this derail but this has been bugging me.
Marcus is half-right about this, Legion follows Caesar, that is true.
However, when he dies the Legion will not crumble.
See, when he dies then Lanius will become new Caesar, when he dies then Lucius or whoever he puts in charge will become the new Caesar.
Caesar in that sense never dies.

So let's go back ontopic shall we?
Create an addict character, one that uses drugs constantly.
Never use a doctor and never use Fixer and make sure you're always on hardcoe Mode and always addicted to at least two items.

Just cause they crucify and enslave people and are sixist towards women does not mean they're completely "evil".

Sure (well, maybe anyway...), but it's these characteristics that make them an obvious, attractive choice for an evil bastard playthrough. Whether or not you consider the Legion evil, an evil character is quite likely to gravitate that way anyway, because their M.O. is so cruelly over-the-top and the opportunities for brutality so plentiful. It's the means rather than the ends that will attract evil characters.

Smokescreen OT suggestion: rp an alcoholic.

i still don't think the CL's planned End justifies their Means. And what is that they want anyways? I'm sure it's to take over the entire region/world and rule it with an iron fist. Sure, as a member of the Legion it may be a good thing, but for everybody else, and this include people that have been taken over by the legion & have been turned slave or assimilated against their will or killed, it is bad. And like in some of the posts in the link, you say that some of the things that may make them better, like slaves being better treated for working better or women having higher ranks in the east are speculation, and it could very well be that all women and slaves in the Legion's territory are treated like crap. Slavery and Racism/sixism are never good or should be tolerated, even if they can protect their people.

Also, why is that the NCR can't protect caravans and the like in the Mojave wasteland again? I say it's because the Legion is straining their resources. The NCR could do the job of protecting it's people and the human race without the sixism and slavery, so why should the Legion be chosen over them? Sure, the Legion may technically protect it's people better, but at what cost? Freedom and basic human rights.

I'm just rambling now.

... *on topic* Meltdown is a good perk, but it makes it dangerous to use any energy weapon at close range.

Oh, tell me about it! I was just walking in the Coyote Mine shack thing like it was nobody's business when OMG FREAKING ZOMBIE ATTACK! I took out my good ol' Holorifle not thinking for one single second and BAM! I flew through the room and I could not stop laughing.

yea, i walked into some shack once and saw a rat at the door, pulled out a laser, killed it, and broke a few bones. that's when i started wondering if meltdown was a good choice, lol

you could do a Mr. RADical build (i think that's the name of the dead guy with the radiation suit) get all radiation related perks and whatnot

you know what'd be awesome? if every day at some location bounties would become available and you could do various recurring missions for money and exp. killing a cazador swarm, hunting down a specific fiend, that sort of thing...

As I wait for the DLC's/ Portal 2/ Skyrim, I made a Powder Ganger - type character with only one intelligence. At the moment has 100 in Explosives, Splash Damage perk, Demolition Expert perk, and Hit The Deck perk.
Basically it's a not-so-bright Powder Ganger roaming the Wasteland who blows up anything that looks at him funny.

So far It's been a blast.

Unless you have to kill everything you encounter, otherwise this isn't hard at all.

*sigh*
Why do so many think that "Oh I'm going to be an evil character, how can I make it as evil as possible? I know! I'll join Legion."
(Sorry if that's not what you meant but the whole "took cannibal so that I can really seal the deal" made it seem so.)
Can't people create "good" characters and join Legion?
How about creating an evil as hell itself character and join NCR?

but CL burns innocent people on piles of tires and nails them to crosses. They also force all women to be slaves. That is evil....My cl charecter "Dahmer Bundy" doesn t think so of course. "He loves the purity of their form of justice." Though he doesn t really know it he is sick in the head. Thats the only was I can rp a charecter into CL.

Oh so the hokers, drug addicts, drunks, gamblers, and thieves are innocent now? You're forgetting Nipton was a trouble town.
Being a slave is better than being in a backward tribe as Caesar says.
As said so many times, their ways to succeed are evil, but it gets the job done. The crucifying, burning, and executing is a message to the NCR, The Legion's main goal isn't to torture and kill as so many seem to think. Sure maybe they're not the nicest folks, but it's much better than 20 different tribes fighting in an area where no one is safe.

Sorry to sway off topic here.
What I did today was exploring the Sewer System, which is very confusing, but fun.

Still, Caesar's Legion is the very essence of a brutal totalitarian regime with no regard for human rights. Many things in Nipton might have been considered immoral, but that's definitely not an excuse to kill them. And how do you so easily overlook slavery? All women belong to the slave caste; this is outright prejudiced and barbaric. If you listen to Ranger Andy's story, the Legion also makes good use of child soldiers. What's more, without Caesar himself, the whole thing will crumble. The rest of the Legion is just a bunch of mindless barbarians. In Legate Lanius's ending, you get to truly see what an inhumane monster he is. They are very similar to the Nazi regime, killing innocents with zero tolerance to anyone who might have a slightly different view than them, they leech off their allies and destroy them after they served their (like Hitler did with Finland, Slovakia, Croatia and other countries), and they are fascistic, denying many freedoms people enjoy with the NCR or even with Mr. House. There is simply no glorifying Caesar's Legion, they are the Nazis of the Fallout World.
Sorry this is so off topic, btw. I couldn't let people praise the legion without giving my opinion on it.

If you want to discuss Caesar's Legion, good, evil, gray, the best hope of mankind or the worst thing to hit the scene since the nazi's then create a new thread for it.

And just so my post isn't offtopic: Try to only use a grimy pre-war suit and the 9mm pistol/smg through the entire game, that's freaking hard, especially on Very Hard when facing Lanius or Oliver.

Play as a mean drunk. Here's the rules: re-map your controls at random, consume all booze on sight.

I don't really have much fun ideas to do in it.

But some people like to praise evil, not like that the NCR are the Knight in shining armor anyways
And please, do not put real life examples, thats beyond the rules of the forum

Here's another one involving the incinerator i was doing just today :D

Go to a location wich is dense in population, take the incinerator, aim straight up in the air and fire it. It looks like mortars and it's fun as hell. Just a little side note, fire ant nectar might be needed to reduce the chance of dieing
