Things from morrowind that should go into skyrim

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 12:09 am

In my opinion there is a lot that can be gained by reflecting on morrowind. Such as swimming in morrowind, I can see! Swimming in Oblivion...can't see... Mudcrabs in morrowind....walkin...walkin...WHAT THE HECK that rock just attacked me! and it was a scary rock too...Icarian's Flight. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" *thud* poor fellow had only 7 seconds of 1000 acrobatics. So what do you think of these things, also what else do you think could benefit our beloved fresh new skyrim, from the old and wise morrowind?

There a way way more important things that were better in Morrowind, but we've had threads covering each thing by now, so honestly, don't bother making these kinds of poll,s you'll just get a lot of flamers... That said I'll answer the thread to be polite ^^

Better level scaling

Better fasttravel system

Hand placed items

More unique world

More lore readily avaliable in-game

Darker feel (aka no overused bloom)

How about instead of implementing mechanics and aspects from a game from 2001, they implement brand new ideas and mechanics that completely trounce all previous TES games combined?

That would be great, but one must not always discount the old and throw in the new. You must always look to the wisdom of the old for guidance, then let their wisdom ferment in your brain and when it's done fermenting you'll have fresh new ways that taste even better than before :)

I definitely think there should be skill limits still. If there isn't than you can easily crash the game or really screw it up.

personally, what i miss most is morrowind's level of freedom and customization choices...

i liked being able to unlock and enter every single door in the game [from what i remember, anyway] if i was a good enough thief or mage... wasnt possible in oblivion, since half the doors in the game required keys, nothing else could open em... and half of those doors' keys didnt exist!

i also enjoyed being able to slay anyone i wanted, etc... if i wanted to break the main quest, let me! they could work around children, if you slay their parents, the kids just vanish from town, like in fallout 3.

the customization choices... i miss pauldrons and seperate gauntlets... i miss being able to mix and match clothing with my armor, too!

also, theres one thing i wanna keep from oblivion... GRABBING THINGS!

i loved the ability to interact with the environment, and play with corpses, so i hope bethesda keeps that in... i wanna play with dragon corpses and centurions! :D

Many people are still in love with morrowind even after 10 years...that should speak for itself! :P

Yeah, your reply to that makes more sense than your OP - which didn't talk about developing aspects, just about porting them over to Skyrim

Sorry the Poll just doesn't reflect things i'd like from Morrowind in Skyrim

Oblivion added many things I wanted in Morrowind but couldn't have and I'm sure Skyrim will add features that i wanted in oblivion but couldn't have

Although - I would like more options in conversation - with options only becoming available based on my speechcraft or intelligence abilities

Trust me, I loved Morrowind, but your idea is to simply recreate Morrowind. That doesn't feel right,

From Morrowind I'd like the originality put in towns architecture.
And the dunmer male voice! And the sense of exploration, uniqueness, reward and discovery.

Don't the cities need to be walled and separated from the rest of the world because having all the information in a city accessible to the player at all times would be impossible for the system to handle? So then, that would equal no levitation. And I'm okay with that, so long as there are stairs.

Or ladders! (right)

But what I really want is no where on this list. I want Guars. Friendly ones, like for pets or holding extra weight!! <3<3

Nothing from Morrowind should carry over to Skyrim because you'll only end up disappointing everyone. Morrowind fans will still complain that it's not enough like Morrowind and people expecting new things will complain that Skyrim will have outdated gameplay (and they'd be right).

From what I understand, Morrowind is many people's favorite game because of how unique it was. How is Skyrim supposed to immerse you in it's own world when it borrows heavily from something that was made in 2002?

Swimming was pretty much the same, except for Morrowind swimming being a lot slower.
The water was, however, much clearer in Morrowind... in Oblivion I could not see [censored].

In that case they shouldn't add perks, because then you can't be immersed in it's own world. Wouldn't be unique enough.
No that would be a lame argument. I do think it shouldn't "borrow heavily" from any one of it's games. There are however aspects in each of their "Elder scrolls" games that are really good and should be developed, redeveloped, and then implemented in a seemless way.
