Things We Have Learned From TES IV: Oblivion

Post » Sat Oct 03, 2009 4:54 pm

Years ago someone decided to go around to every single natural cave in cyrodiil, (Even the ones out in the middle of the wilderness) and decided that they all needed to have wooden doors so as to look tidier. And that torches in old fort ruins from the 1 era can keep burning for centuries

Invisible walls exist.

Blood and arrows will disappear after few minutes.

You can stab and cut someone with your weapon , but his body parts wont fall off.

That a bridge Troll will find out that he is the worst troll ever.

That making money for the thieves guild if you pay the Mage's guild a visit.

That wood elves will always have an annoying voice.

That wood elves in Morrowind have totally black eyes, and that wood elves in Oblivion have regular eyes.

That Khajiit and Argonians can wear boots.

That as long as you haven't stolen it, you can sell skooma to any shop owner.

That being a vampire makes you extremely ugly, and is a very big hassle.

That other vampires will attack you and still scream for blood.

That to be a pirate doesn't mean you need to sail and plunder the seas, just send out your friends to mug people.

That if strike someone with any weapon or spell, whatever they're wearing will show no visible damage.

That weapons can only damage armor and other weapons. They cannot damage clothing.

That submerging yourself in water does not make you wet.

That the Septims were not the only family to be wiped out recently. Several of your relatives have recently...passed...and left you different types of homes.

That, although Dwemer weapons are extremely rare in Morrowind, they are rather abundant in Cyrodiil, despite the complete lack of Dwemer Ruins or strongholds.

That accidentally touching something that belongs to someone else is a crime, but only if you touch it with your hands.

If things don't go to your liking, no worries - just reload a save!

And if it's corrupted, you're screwed. :celebration:

Little blonde people worship the ground i walk on.
Everyone hates me, until I close a gate to another realm for a magical stone.
People in a small village in the middle of nowhere have heard of me despite no one ever going there.
While necromancers are thought of as evil, mages who summon a zombie or a skeleton are not
I can kill a whole town and a little blonde person will still worship me

Things I have learned:

It's not a good idea to play "catch" wit a fireball.

Grind Clannfear Claws to dust before you consume them. Otherwise, they really hurt going down (not to mention out).

Glass is actually more durable than steel.

Being Glarthir's neighbor is probably not going to do wonders for your health.

Although skooma is illegal, the guards won't do anything about it, even if you consume it right in front of them.

You can contract diseases, but you can't transmit them.

Food won't go bad no matter how long you leave it out.

Never live in a town with a corrupt guard captain. You could get fined for standing in one place too long and get fined again the next day for moving around too much.

If you become a vampire, don't try to get a tan. It won't end well for you.

Hats do not exist.

A Flame Atronoch is not a "hot babe". Well, okay, it is, but it wants to kill you.

Birds are invisible to men and mer. Yes, you can hear them, but even Detect Life spells won't allow you to see them.

If you see a troll coming, you run. Simple. Next question?

A friend of mine sent that to me in an email three or four years ago. I had to read it five times before I got it. But that's what's fun about it: When you read the first part, your mind automatically arranges it into a proper fraction. When you read the second part, you think  Then you read the first part over and over until it actually registers and then

Infact, even summoning Daedra isn't a crime. I can summon a Xivilai in the center of IC and no one will so much as groan.

Traven isn't enforcing his laws at all.

* The population of Cyrodiil is roughly 20% Law-abiding citizens and 80% maurauding bandits

* A single lv.25 bandit has more money to buy equipment (glass armor, daedric weapon) than the entire Imperial Legion combined

What have I learned from TES:IV Oblivion?
I learned that just because a game is new and shinier, that doesn't mean it's better.

You, sir, are correct. Oblivion is better because of its content. See what I did there?

I learned that even though it is a mine with valuable gold ore just lying around, it doesn't mean people will be mining there.

I learned that Cadlew chapel is an awesome place to stay at.

I learned that the skeleton key is a thief's best friend.

It is impossible to fight or cast spells while riding on a horse. However, you will find you have no trouble at all, eating, drinking, using complex alchemical apparatus to concoct potions, and even changing out of that stifling uncomfortable plate mail into something more comfortable.

While reaching into a bowl to steal blackberries, strawberries or other small food items, you will find that you are somehow unconsciously compelled to stop picking up berries one-by-one and instead pickup the bowl, dumping all the remaining berries out on the floor. It is just the way thievery works.

Shooting people with an arrow while sneaking and causing 3X or 6X damage will cause their carcass to hurtle backwards as if they have been struck by a freight train. It is just the way those sneaky arrows work.

Even though the average paint horse is tough and aggressive enough to kill a wolf in single combat, they are unable to charge opponents while you are riding them. Instead they will just slow down and skirt around / bounce off anyone that you run into.

Even at 99% of your encumbrance limit, you can run at top speed for days and weeks on end, never requiring food, water or sleep, but as soon as you add that last 1% you will be completely immobilized. Moreover, if you try to fight you will rapidly become exhausted. Still, it doesn't really matter. Once you have no "fatigue" left to expend, you will still be able to fight.

After spending uncountable hours foraging and harvesting ingredients for creating potions in Cyrodiil, back in Real Life when you are walking to work, you will have an uncontrollable urge to forage from every bush, shrub and flower you pass........

I certainly haven't. Where can I find a copy in-game?

I'll give it a read on the wiki. Thanks. :)

But my point was; basically in the game, everyone is speaking English. Even two Dunmers conversing with speak in English rather than their native tongue.
Thats what I was referring to.
