Things I hope they improve in Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:01 am

In Oblivion it felt very repetitive to enter dungeons after you have visited some. I really hope they make them unique each one of them and not like in Oblivion. I rather have fewer really great dungeons than 100 dungeons with "randomized" feeling and same look. Also when you entered the portal it felt the same each time I did (same towers and look). That's sad because I got tired of the game before I reached the end. I really hope they improve this. The user interface (UI) for the PC was bad too. I hope they will do different UI for PC and console, so those which use PC don't get frustrated of the poor design. Sorry about the criticism, but I had to comment these things. Oblivion is otherwise an amazing game, except above things.

Will dragon shouts be much more powerful than spells? What's the point with spells if so?

Comments?

With over 100 dungeons I bet some of them will be at least thematically similar (ie. "caves", "dwemer ruins", etc). I hope they have a wider variation than they did in Morrowind though.

I don't think the dragon shouts will be "more powerful" than spells, I think they'll just do different things.

I don't think every dungeon in Skyrim will look the same. I'm pretty sure the caves in the volcanic tundra won't have the same looks as the caves outside the volcanic tundra.

So basically you can succeed to run though the game without the dragon shouts if you choose so.

I have no idea about that. All I'm suggesting is that Dragon Shouts have different effects than spells.

Here's a little something I've read on the internet:

"Bethesda promise that the game’s dungeons will be much more varied than they were in Oblivion. Where Oblivion had one dungeon designer, Skyrim has eight. The team will be working on keeping Skyrim’s dungeons varied with puzzles and traps, to ensure that “no two areas are alike.” An example of one such dungeon is the Bleak Falls Barrows, which features ancient Nord catacombs carved between huge tree roots and underground rivers. There will be 120 dungeons in total. "

I hope that eases your mind. :) More on the subject here: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/08/skyrim-has-a-hand-crafted-world-with-no-two-areas-alike/

I've also read that dragon shouts have a cooldown which affects all shouts. So you can only use one per day. The shouts are also rather different from normal spells, both in casting and effects. Did you know that all spells in Skyrim can now be cast in 3 different ways? I think dragon shouts only have one way of casting. I've also read that there is a dragon shout to slow time as well as to call upon a dragon. So I think they wont be your average kind of spells that you would use to get an enemy down, still leaving room for normal mage spells.

Ok, that sound great.

Once each day, sounds good. Then they can be quite powerful and you must choose carefully when to use the shouts.

Anyone heard if there will be two different UI, one for PC and one for consoles?

I haven't heard either way, but I'd bet money on a uniform interface. Takes a lot less time to code one that works for both, rather than three optimized for each system.
