Things TES could learn from Dark Souls?

Post » Sun Jun 15, 2014 12:22 pm

Be able to wield any weapon with one or two hands.

Stamina depletes faster the more you are carrying.

Hand placed loot of high value instead of generic "Power Amulet of Ultimate power"

non linear dungeons

Severe status ailments. Compare Dark Souls curse to Skyrims Rockjoint.

Slower movements speeds with heavier gear.

:( ....

1. seems like a good idea, but... could someone really hold 2 big heavy weapons and use them effectively?
2. That'd be good
3. Hand placed loot is crap.
4. There are some non-linear dungeons...
5. ......
6. Already a feature in TES. well... with armour anyway.

These are all things that were in the past Elder Scrolls games at some point or another.

Also, I wouldn't call Dark Souls dungeons "non linear." They're pretty linear save for some exceptions. (And by dungeons I mean places outside of The Firelink Shrine/Majula)

He means you can switch between 1h and 2h with a single weapon, not hold 2 big weapons.

Personally the only thing Id like to see from Dark Souls is similar level design in a way with dungeons and the dodging. Everything else... nah.

After playing Dark Souls II, i'd probably say nothing. It's a game hell bent on selling you a challenge rather than an actual polished game experience.

If I had to pick, I'd probably say monster art direction. Some of the bosses were creatively designed.

Oh, right, I completely forgot!

One thing I would love to see is the combat. I like it so much more than ES's floaty combat. At least Stamina mattered in DS.

How come people rage hard @ civil war for being repetitive threads but spam like this is perfectly fine?

Oh right. Because this is constructive criticism and bethesda are clearly gonna read this 3 years after release.

I agree with more hand placed loot as that's my biggest problems with Skyrim's loot system, the lack of reward at low levels. You will always get crap at low levels, there is no chance of getting something like a Daedric sword at level 1.

Stamina though can't really be changed much in Skyrim. The way that the combat is, the game is much faster then it was in Oblivion, if you added in a system similar to Oblivion, you would have to slow the game down and I think that would hurt the combat of the game.

I don't want non-linear dungeons, because then we get copypasta dungeons. I fell in love with skyrim because of it's unique and interesting dungeons.

Skyrim has the worst dungeons in the series. No amount of storytelling will compensate for the fact they are nothing but corridors. Atleast Oblivion had dungeons you could EXPLORE!

:lmao: I suppose that makes up for the fact they are pretty much all the same. Unique and interesting dungeons that are fun to go through make up for being linear.

Sorry, but my imagination can tell its own stories, it cannot however, imagine new areas to explore. Ideally dungeons should be sprawling like Daggerfalls and have its own narrative. Ebrocca is a good example from Oblivion.

Show nice graphics in the trailers, and then put crappy graphics in the final product.

Ethetan, you are sorta being a hypocrite in this specific complaint..

the grounds behind many of your complaints are usually "its not realistic"

Tombs, cave systems, Ruined forts, etc.. in RL these are almost always built in a more "linear" fashion, not some sprawling Labyrinth..

as such, Skyrims dungeons are in fact the most realistic from an archaeological standpoint

I wouldn't take anything from Dark Souls, I would instead want combat inspired by Dragon's Dogma.

What else would you expect from a game whose tagline is ''Prepare to die''?

But, yeah: I'd say nothing. Except more weapon types. You know, cestus, claws, but not spears, unless you plan to include mounted enemies and a cavalry-friendly environment.

Also: more power attack variations like thrusts, pommel strikes, crossguard strikes, nut shots...

Basically, you listed almost all things that were present in TES before Oblivion. :P

Haha, you're funny.

From archaeological standpoint majority of caves wouldn't even be passable, at least not by humans, or at the very least not while walking upright. :P Then he'd probably complain about how most caves end up with blind paths. :P

Pretty much the same, just a bit less decorated and paths went in more dimensions (there was more diving and flying involved).
