Things that break your heart in FO3.

Post » Fri Jul 23, 2010 1:27 pm

exactly why everytime i have done the Pitt i choose to side with Ashur.
Although i usually have no problems with any choices in game, and usually have evil karma, i can never bring myself to kidnap the baby
one of the few things in game i cant do

I 'save' the baby every time if I'm good or neutral. No way I'm gona let that Ashur bring up a child to continue that legacy of evil slavery. I consider Ashur glitched as in he auto charms the lone wanderer on sight when you speak with him for the first time..... just be strong, pull the trigger then save the baby, kill the rest of the evil slavers, job done :D

I agree with the family robot example in the DC area, made me pause for a few seconds before returning to the killing and looting of supermutants. Also mentioned was the simulation when the chinese failsafe kicks in, shame I couldn't save the others trapped in there as well, I checked all the pods just in case!

Nothing breaks my heart.

Bryan Wilks? Pfft, a pathetic kid who comes crying to me while I'm trying to hunt me some mirelurk meat.

The little moonbeam? Last time I heard a story like that was around 15 years ago, so no thank you. Not interested.

I love killing animals. The only one I haven't killed over 200 times is Dogmeat. Only killed him around 100 times just for the fun of mini nuking around 400 mines under him. Mwhahhaa!

My dad? He left me, that sonofabeachen, he is dead, I took his outfit just because it's unique.

I don't feel bad about killing ANYTHING that is not essential. And the essential ones are the ones I want to kill the most. Grr...

The poem about soft rains? Hah, what rains? It's nuclear fallout, that dumb robot should be reprogrammed to the present day.

There was some holotape in LittleLampLight. Something to do with some kids saying that their teachers didn't allow them into the vault. That was just cruel.

When I return to Bryan Wilkes to tell him that I couldn't find a family :(
I instantly reloaded to the VERY BEGINNING of that quest, just so that I could get his family. That taught me to save often ;)

Making that bratty kid in Rivet City run away, leading to him dragging the girl off with him. I felt so bd, but couldn't help but laugh at an event that occurred:
it was my second playthrough, so he was a badass evil, hand-to-hand masta'. The Regulators made it to the bottom of the stairs leading up to the bridge to Rivet City, since they were hunting me, but they were ambushed by Mutants. I stepped outside for a few moments, and suddenly caught a glimpse of the combat as cars exploded triumphantly and limbs flailed wildly through the air. But I could see 2 small figures constantly running through the explosions, and surviving. It really made it too easy to find the 2 kids :P I got some nice loot between the Muties and Do-Gooders though.

Selling out the slaves at the Temple of the Union (is that its name?)

Blowing up Megaton, and forgetting all about my good friend Gob. Then I had to break the news to his "Mum"... *sniff*.. and then killing her "Daughter"...

Trying to save the Mutant Captives is always a pain. Since they're often located in or near trucks, they sometimes explode making my rescue attempt a waste of time and supplies.

Watching Fawkes act retarded by attacking Liberty Prime for no reason, only to see the poor woman explode into pieces. Such a powerful figure.... reduced to nothing so easily. It's a sad lesson for us all :(

Spoiler
Despite the early story hinting at it, you can't develop a relationship with Amata or take her out into the wastelands and be her 'protector' while she explores the harsh world outside the vault.

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a svcker for things like that.

Spoiler
It also was a bit heartbreaking that you never got with Alyx Vance in Half-Life 2

You're my hero, I am sad that Alyx and Gordon haven't done it yet. But there's still episode three and HL3.

Spoiler
Being shanghaied into the Brotherhood of Steel, and subsequently having to annihilate Adams Air Force Base.

Seriously. It's either join the power-armored boy scouts, or be a dike and get no reward for it. There is no middle ground. I must have hovered over that console for ten freaking minutes during Broken Steel, going "Yes? No? YES? NO?!"

Spoiler
I would have dearly loved to have just disabled the stupid orbital strike platform, so that neither group could use it. Problem solved! Equilibrium achieved! BUT NOOOOO.

...Yeah, I'm a little sore about that ending. Don't mind me. >.> *ahem*

Only time I ever broke my heart was when
Spoiler
I killed the old lady in the Violin Quest
then I got over it 2 seconds later when I stole all her stuff.

Exactly. I did that too. Also, being asked to steal "the cure".

The fact that Every character I make turns out the same. I always choose Repair, Small Guns, with some sneak and branching off into Speech/Barter and some other skills.
I really have an efficient build I have trouble deviating from.

And once the main quest is done, the game feels finished. There's only like 10 side-quests, so there's no wiggle room, no freedom. The Pitt is bland and Anchorage, I get out of the way for a few 8 levels at the beginning.

Simply, nothing to do.

I don't mind killing most of the animals, long as I eat what I kill. Hate killing Brahmin, though. That huge animal, and all you can take is ONE POUND of meat? What a waste.

I might take shots at James, Tammy's kid, but I do feel really sorry for him. His mom can't stand him, pretty much everyone else, the same. And CJ probably only hangs out with him because there are no other kids in Rivet City. And his dad probably wound up in a strange meat pie in Andale, which is a svcky way to lose a parent.

And after I did the nasty to poor Bryan in "Those!", this came on the radio:

"This, faithful listeners, is the story of a little boy. A little boy... named Bryan Wilks. You see, Bryan's from Grayditch, a small settlement that was recently overrun with overzealous Giant Ants. Bryan, sadly, was the sole survivor. That's where the kid from Vault 101 comes in, and where our story, unfortunately, gets even worse. You see, Mister Vault 101 may have stopped the Ant problem, but he couldn't be bothered to help poor little Bryan. Noooo. But, what did he do with the boy, Three Dog? Where's Bryan Wilks now? I'll tell you where Bryan Wilks is. He's at [bleep] Paradise Falls, that's where! Oh, you heard me right! 101, a little defenseless boy begged you for help, and what did you do? You SOLD HIM AS A [bleep] SLAVE! Shame, shame, shame on you.

I felt like such a rotten creep.

Paulie Cantelli in Rivet City.

You want some Psycho? Sure, have some Psycho. I take 'em all the time. Harmless.
Then he goes and dies in a quiet corner from a drug overdose.

Oh, the guilt. Couldn't look Cindy in the face after that one.

The other thing to make me cry, the one and only time I have ever triggered the Firelance event in my game (that I know of anyway) I had no Dogmeat to help find the weapon.
It was in the yard where the cars are stacked behind Pinkerton's side of Rivet City. The amount of exploding cars made the world go nuclear for a while. But I couldn't find anything at all. I even dove into the water to see if the exploding cars had hurled anything into the Potomac.
Fawkes just stood there and grinned at my dripping wet frustration and rad sickness.

Having to kill Button. I can never be bothered to get the ink but at the same time he is so endearing and I'd love him to live on

Or the situation with Harold as no way you end it will be happy: he will die, he can go on suffering, you can risk his gift being spoilt by rest of people or you could deny it to them

This one is kind of depressing, and shows how disgusting nuclear warfare is.

Spoiler
Seeing the Mister Handy in Georgetown read a dead child "There will come soft rains".

It's been said already. The one thing that truly touched me in this game, was the Mr. Handy reading the poem There Will Come Soft Rains to the deceased child. It was truly a moment where I just stopped, and made me appreciate a lot of things. Truly a touching moment.

Whatever dev put this in the game, you are sick.

saddest part

meeting mom in point lookout. :cryvaultboy:

And another one that no one mentioned. This is the saddest thing I've ever seen in a video game.

Spoiler
In the town of Minefield (That's what it's called right?) In one of the bedrooms of one of the houses there are two skeletons holding each other on the bed. It's just so depressing imagining what was going through the heads of that husband and wife and the terror they must have been suffering. And they had a child's bedroom but no child to be seen. They died together and never got to say good-bye to their kid. I had to save and turn off the game when I saw this whole scene. It actually made me cry.:cryvaultboy:

Uncle Leo. A kinder and gentler Fawkes. He was severely injured and only has one bar of health, I have tried to reverse pickpocket stims but with no luck. Every time I am in the area I stop to see him and he is so happy and calls me his little sister. It is difficult to walk away knowing he might not be there next time.

Want to know what makes it worse? That is Gibson's home, but Gibson himself is at work in D.C. Perhaps there was something he did not know about...

when i found out i could not level past 30. That meant i couldnt get all the other perks =/
And starting another game sounds so pointless. I mean, i know everything already.
Wished they would add an option just to get the other perks, to buy them or something.
