Things that could be improved... Smithing and Vampires?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:34 am

One of the things I would love to see improved is black smithing. I like the idea of making my own weapons and armour, but I would love to be able to design what they look like to some degree, so as to have my own brand of weapons and armour that look distinctive.

Also seeing how exciting the introduction of Werewolves is in this game, Vampires seem positively flat.... I mean the only way you would know the difference between a Vampire Bandit and and normal Bandit is the name icon above their head!
Vampires could be done a little better I think, more claws and fangs I think...

Well thats an instant no to first one, unless someone really wants to work out how it would even remotely work.

I guess you could make models of each of each uhh modular part, stick them together into one whole...use that as the end result, but use UI options to pick each part, basically P1A=1 + P2D=1 = whatever.

There's no way you can fix blacksmithing without messing with the entire perk tree, but it would be cool to make armor out of almost anything, like chitlin.

I somewhat agree with the vampire thing. I'd like to see fangs.

They are rather one-dimensional in this game. With werewolves, you at least get about half of a questline about them, but with Vampires it's "You're a vampire now, have fun." I would have preferred some vampire-related quests that didn't involve killing them or getting cured. I'd also like to be able to tell a vampire from a bandit before I'm standing right next to him. The vampire skills benefits and detriments were actually quite good for conveying that you are a vampire, but I would have liked Skyrim to use its vampires rather than a variant of the Cyrodilic vampires.

Smithing needs to be balanced, vampires need to actually get something useful.. :/

Perhaps a system that monitors each day that passes while a vampire, and everytwo ingame months you get alittle stronger, with damage for example. The system they've had for oblivion and skyrim for a vampire has be...well [censored] to be honest. Perhaps even the more you feed(restrict the amount of times you can feed everythree days for example) you get alittle stronger (but only alittle). It would build up in the end, after all they're ment to get stronger with age :toughninja:

The thing I don't understand is why do Vampires in TES get more powerful the less they feed? :ermm:

I think the vampires feel a little tacked on, like they were put in as an afterthought or something. They should have claw attacks (like Khajiit) at the very least, and some quests would be nice. As for powers, well in the interests of balance you can't give them too much, but the vampiric drain power (I forget the actual name) only drains 4 health per second at it's strongest. This is pretty pathetic for a low - mid level character and laughable at the higher levels.

I love vampires and vampire lore, I've read Montague Summers and watched most decent vampire flicks. Got into the White Wolf RPG Vampire: The Masquerade as a kid and played it on PC.

But for all that I prefer werewolves in this game, they feel more complete and powerful.

I agree fully, having also played Vampire: The Masquerade and seen most of the good vampire films out there. I've not even bothered being a vampire in skyrim yet, i hated it so much! on oblivion, morrowind it was....intresting..Lol. But yes, very much an afterthought, oh well, bring on the mods :P :celebration:

Cuz they lose their humanity (or whatever you'd call it for an elf), and become more and more of a monster as they become more hungry.

Compare Dracula when he's recently fed, to say, Count Orlock. Or better yet, the vamps in the movie Daybreakers.

Customizable smithing? yes please. Taking parts from one suit (as long as you had the necessary armour perk) then putting it on another would be great.
And I know it's out of the question, but mixing heavy armour with light armour pieces to create medium armour, I'd love to see.
Which if it did happen, in my opinion medium armour would be affected by perks on both trees (light/heavy armour), but bonuses included in these perks are halved.

Now on the subject of vampires.. they were poorly done in Skyrim. Hardly any detailed storylines featuring them or for them and the gameplay was dull, Oblivion-like.
Where as I'd thought it would be a mix of both Morrowind & Oblivion's. With a touch of Volkihar lore to spice it up a bit (frost powers, fire weakness etc.).
Also the lack of a questline going into detail on the origins of the vampires and there being no sanctuary or refuge for stage 4 vampires is quite pestering to me.

Perhaps they'll update these features in a dlc (with the addition of werebears)? one can only hope, I guess. :sadvaultboy:

One of the major problems is that being a vampire gives you very little upside for all the downsides. Not having your stamina or magika regenerate while traveling and weakness to fire are huge downsides in a game where dragons come out of the sky every 5 minutes when you're trying to get from quest to quest.
