Things that made you go "What?"

The Wasteland is full of weird stuff that just tend to happen. Let's hear about what you've experienced!

I was going through Arlington Library to get all the Pre-war books, when I came to a book shelf which had fallen over. There were a half skeleton with outstretched arms poking out from under it.

In the same library, there's a kiddy classroom. In the teachers desk, I found a carton of cigarettes.

In the Steelyard in The Pitt, I shot a trog, and the Bloody Mess perk made its head explode. But the head didn't fly apart due to a glitch, so the trog ended up dead with the most funny expression I have ever seen.

I was just travelling the Wasteland as I usually do, minding my own business, and then I caught a glimpse of a Protectron rocketing across the sky -- it hadn't landed when it faded from sight. Appropriately, I thought 'wtf?', and then continued on my way.

Well today a Brute the size of a Behemoth fell out of the sky into a river, and then shrank to normal as it ran at me. :ahhh:

I was walking around the Wastes, and I find two groups of Wastelanders fighting over a refrigerator. Its just there. This place isn't marked or anything. Literally, in the middle of nowhere.

That's just one of the many random encounters in the game, buddy. Nothing uncommon about that. But yeah, I know what you mean -- a fridge in the middle of the Wastes is pretty odd. I mean, how the hell did it get there?

Since I just bought FO3 GOTY via Steam this weekend everything made me go "What?". Took me a little while to figure out the UI, inventory, stats, maps, etc.

Yeah. Long time OB player/modder I understand how things are placed ingame but I wish there was more logic sometimes. I hate finding baseball bats and rifles in mailboxes.

I know! Like Chriso says, it's one of the Random Encounters in the game, but it is so weird. How did the fridge get out there in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes it's somewhere kind of okay, like somewhere near buildings where someone might have dragged it outside. But the rest of the time it is just :o And why is the water in a fridge anyway? It's not like there's any electricity it's connected to...

Yeah, I know its a random encounter. I love em. :D

I have an idea how it got there though. You will too if you watch Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Spoiler
Indie wanders into a testing area for an A-bomb. Its a model town blown to bits. Before the final countdown, he decides to take cover inside a fridge in one of the model houses. The whole town is blown up, but the fridge just flies off in the air and lands a mile away, unscratched. I guess they're nuke-proof. Perhaps someone watched that movie before the Nukes in Fallout went off.

Me, too. Radnom encounters are one of the best things about the game. :)

Haha, yeah I've seen that film. If that was the case, then how on earth is it still working? If it isn't, then why the hell are the wastelanders carrying the bloody thing to store ten bottles of water? Would a simple bag no suffice? :P

It makes sense in some circumstances. You don't want little kids getting into the drugs after all.

That might not explain the booze, cigs, MedX, RadX, firearms, darts, etc. laying everywhere.

Spoiler
I'm betting that you were near Bigtown, and if you ever do the quest in Bigtown... you're going to wish you remembered where that Protectron body had landed. Due to the way the body is placed in Bigtown, it works fine on the first visit, but on your second visit to the cell it gets launched high up in the air in a random direction.

I went back to a... ahem... rearranged Megaton to pick up a fired Jericho and found him glitching through into a stretchy Jericho ribbon. He was still able to move around and grumble and as I ran back and forth trying to catch up with him so I could click on him to talk to him, we were attacked by a huge pack of Night Ghouls (IIS). Jericho, ticked off at being fired, left me to my own devices and continued zipping around the area while I fought my way out of danger. Eventually I was able to catch up with Jericho and click on his ribbony arm. He popped back into human form and we went on our way.

I had something similar happen to me. But instead of Jericho it was a skeleton. It was hovering in mid air, spazing and spaking all over the place. Out of curiosity, I went to check it out -- I wasn't very happy when the darn thing nearly took half my health! Lesson learned: don't go near suspicious objects that move on thier own....

While going through Springvale Elementary, I found a prison cell with little kid skeletons and tiny bloody handprints on the wall. WTF happened there before the bombs fell?

Also many times I've seen Dogmeat flip a car over trying to run towards me. Must be the Puppy Chow.

I was fighting a Yao Guai, and as soon as I killed it, and I watched it drop, an invisible Yao Guai started attacking me. I could only see it in VATS. And before you ask, no, I wasn't on any chems, in game or out.

Yeah, I've had something like that, too. I walked out of the Jefferson Memorial (after the Purifier had been activated) and saw Crow and his Brahmin being attacked. It turned out to be an invisible Mirelurk. Crazy stuff.

I had all of the Raiders at Bethesda Ruins fall through the ground while I was escorting a scavenger to Big Town. They could whizz bullets at me just fine but all I could do was run away. The sky turned pink and I fell through the ground too. Yay for glitches!
