Things that make the game harder but you do it anyway...

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 12:32 am

Since finding the silver shroud costume I have decided that I am never taking it off - I just love the look of it so much I don't care if I get one shotted by a radroach that baby is staying on, and as in previous Fallout games I do not ever use stimpacks in the heat of battle and try not to pause the game to switch weapons etc during a battle. I also don't reload save points if I fail a speech check and I try not to fast travel anywhere - although I do allow a fast travel back home to dump crap and then back to wherever I was.

I just wondered what restrictions you place on yourself? Fallout is such a personal experience I am sure that you all have some great ways that you enjoy the game in your own unique way.

Playing on Survival, never touched heavy weaponry.

I will almost never use the Power armor. Do not like the feature much (at low levels it is a godmode portable suit, the interface and model does not suit my tastes, can be stuck if you are out of power, cannot sneak, etc).

I do not know if it counts... =P

Basically boycotted fast travel for the time being at least. I've been walking from place to place. Lots of random encounter's and battle's that I would have probably missed. Doesn't really make the game harder but it does add another layer of immersion.

My endurance is 3, I am wearing a tuxedo I found with no armour or stat bonuses, I never use power armour unless the game makes me (like at Concord), I never fast travel (what's the point in playing an open world game if you fast travel everywhere?), and I also don't use companions unless the game makes me. I only use stimpacks if my limbs are broken otherwise I eat food I have cooked, If I haven't any cooked food then I eat the radiated food.

Yeah even before I found the silver shroud outfit I had decided against ever using power armour, It's the HUD change too I don't ever want to get used to it.

Fast travelling definitely takes away a lot of experiences, although random encounters seem more rare in this game but the amount of awesome fights I stumble upon more than makes up for it. Last night I bumped into a group of super mutants, including a legendary and a glowing hound, taking on a group of gunners whilst the BOS were peppering both from a distance and next thing I know a legendary mole rat mother (think that was the name) came from nowhere and started aggro with me! I was trying to watch the fight, wtf!!

I think for Fallout vets there are probably too many stimpacks in the world. I am closing in on 200 of them lol and that is playing on survival. I would sell them but caps are too easy to come by too and I just don't have anything to spend my money on, ammo is very easy to find with the ammo perks and you can make an awesome weapon from any basic weapon you find so I am basically never visiting any vendors in this game, a far cry from Vegas in that regard.

Side note, I found a legendary fatman and a legendary rolling pin on the same enemy yesterday, talk about opposite ends of the spectrum lol

Yes! That is why I made this thread - http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1548982-food-is-useless-without-hunger-system/?view=findpost&p=24496962- and especially on Survival with slow healing, you never need to heal more than maybe 2 times per fight, and maybe it's my high luck but I get almost one stimpak per raider corpse. Now add in all the other abundance of healing found in the game like meat, purified water, and about half dozen stimpaks from the medical containers in almost every building. The only reason I carry 200+ stimpaks around is because they weigh nothing.

Oh the sacrifices we make for fashion.

So:

- Not using the best available armor/weapons (I do use Power Armour now and then)

- Limiting the use of stimpaks

- Low Endurance (ladies... I'm sorry, I can't help myself)

- Generally avoiding exploiting things that wouldn't make any sense in "real world" (like "[censored] you, Radscorpion, I'm on slightly elevated position, you can't reach me here, even though you really should")

- Generally preferring 'Rule of Cool' over 'Boring, but Practical'.

I tend to go for weapons and clothing by style rather than effectiveness. I have one character who primarily uses pipe weapons just because I like the look of them for a scavenger character. I was avoiding fast travel, but find myself using it a little more as I go along. I make choices in quests and dialogue based on the roleplay of the character I'm playing rather than taking the "best" choice.

A weird one: I got rid of my bloodpacks at one point out of a fear I'd picked one up at a certain unsavory location.

Lots of little things I've picked up playing these types of games that I don't realize I'm doing until I stop to think about it, like looking for a spot to sleep at night.

i have found that PA in no way affects your sneak ability. You sneak as if it was not there.

I noticed I get spotted more often sneaking in PA, but it isn't a huge difference. Not like it should be.

I loot pretty much everything, even stuff with a terrible weight:sales-price ratio. :(

not using fast travel at all ^^

it can get a bit annoying, when you want to explore more than one location and you can't really put the stuff in your inventory back to your base until you actually take your time to go there

but it feels way more immersive and less choppy to actually explore the world without jumping from one location to another :D feels more like a 'real' journey

I'm also really caring about the visuals of my armor ^^ I'd never use any of the combat or raider stuff, simply because the leather armor and parts kind of looks way better for a 'wanderer'

this makes the game a bit harder, I guess... the combat armor should provide way more protection against bullets :(

and I'm also not using any companions at my first playthrough...

the fights get harder, but it's better for taking your time and sneaking

I am playing on survival difficulty without using any chems or stimpacks, just to force myself to experience the first playthrough slowly. I'm sure it won't be too long before someone gets through the game using their fists and only wearing underwear, but that's not really for me.

i just noticed also that i have a legandary chest piece that gives me chamelion. Which is like having a stealthboy on all the time. It works with the PA on as well, come to find out. im sure that helps a bit too
