Things you don't want to see in Skyrim

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:30 pm

I think we've already heard about level scaling and other things, so from the things you haven't heard, what do you not want to see in skyrim?

For me
-Oblivion like levels, the first three we're okay, but after that they just got tedious and boring. I hated the allies for bruma quest.

-Being able to "wait" and have your health and mana recharge. I could understand in MW when it was "rest" and you couldn't do it in a town, but I think "waiting" shouldn't do anything but make the time go faster.

-Invisibility spells. You were basically a god if you could cast one. There was no need for the sneak mechanic, and it made it way to easy to get out of fights. I do want chameleon, but only up to about 65%.

-Lockpicking mini-game. With this there is no reason to have the security skill.

STOP! YOU VIOLATED THE LAW
It would be great if when you accidently 'stole' an apple you had 5 seconds to drop it and then the owner would forgive you and you would not get a guard screaming at you.

  • Being a hero at the onset of the game...In Oblivion it was zero to Hero of Kvatch in an instant, no need to worry about most guards being more suitable for the job than you were, you'll only have to tackle scamps and clanfear runts...

  • The personality wheel (how is that a skill related to talking?) - I would like bribes to be more involved with the player guessing the amount you should bribe the NPC, too little and they'll be insulted.

  • Efficient levelling, I don't want to get relatively weaker as I progress through the game if I play it the wrong way.

  • Walled cities and identical looking cities.

  • The skeleton key at level 10 (or being infinite use-maybe instant open lock for your skill and below)

  • Guns, though I'm interested in Airships...

  • Slow animals chasing me, wouldn't an rat tire quickly and give up?

  • Nirnroot; maybe it should be collectable for Alchemists but don't encourage it for everyone.

  • A level scaled Arena - I shouldn't be the arena champion at level 5.

  • Shops with limited money, or not being able to invest in them more than once.

  • Useless horses. I'm not prepared for the disappointment.

  • Identical character faces/voices, people have vastly different features, no just minor permutations of the same face, and the exact same bodies.

  • Stiff Argonian and Khajiit Tails, they should wag and sway.

  • NPC followers that are significantly slower than you are.

  • Bandits in Daedric and Glass Armour

  • Waterwalking spells and waterbreathing spells, but few locations to encourgae the use of them.

  • I don't want to be rewarded for delaying side-quests - just give the Boots of Blinding Speed whenever I want.

Renaissance European or American West style coaches for the 'carriage' system. Its a dark age, fantasy world, it'd like to see some exotic transport based on animals and/or monsters - wolf drawn sledges, mammoth howdah, enslave troll borne palanquins.

Horses being the only species of 'mount' you can ride.

Limitless swimming and swimming in armour. It should cost you endurance which when exhausted causes you to drown.

Cold or freezing water which has no significant effect when you are immersed.

Psychic Guards. No need to extrapolate.

Stealth Icon which you cannot toggle off.

Combat Music which starts before the first blow hits you.

Quest Markers on the map.

Interior Maps which show the presence of secret areas/passages before they are discovered.

Set piece 'major battles' which have less than a dozen participants.

Ships and boats which never move. At the very least have them bob up and down in the water.

Flowing rivers without a proper current which drags items and characters along.

Seas and lakes without waves on the shore, especially if they don't scale with the ambient wind.

Archery being immune to the ambient wind.

A mandatory Steam requirement for the DVD version.

;)

Oh, and a few others...

A 32bit only version for the PC

Any form of Crash to Disk bug.

I don't want to see Game ending bugs. Actualy I don't want to see any bugs at all. but we know that will not be happening, that Skyrim will be a bug fest.

That is ok, I expect that from Bethesda. The game will be awsome and fun no matter what.

-NPCs having too much health. Wouldn`t want to spend two minutes slashing at someone like I did in Oblivion.

-PCs having too much health. I like a challenge. However Oblivion was not so hard and when you put the difficulty meter up to 100% where enemies could atleast damage you then they took 360 slashes to kill.

-Dragons. I guess fighting one with a bow or projectile spells wouldn`t be too bad but trying to kill a flying enemy with a club that has no reach sounds more annoying and glitchy than fun.

-Crafting. Finding components to make an item is not so bad. However if those components have huge weight and take alot of inventory space like in Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas then I don`t see it being fun.

-Weak guards. Guards should be overpowered and only kill-able at high levels.

-Adoring fan.

-Fargoth and his ring.

Lets see... what else?

-Glitches.

Freely wandering horses. We should be able to hitch them somewhere.

EDIT: ... and horse armor.

If you earned the Adoring Fan, you DESERVE the Adoring Fan.

I welcome his return in Skyrim. May he relentlessly adore those who have earned his adoration. :P

Guns, multiplayer, level scaling like it was in Oblivion, psychic guards that made crime nearly impossible, archery being completely useless without the sneak multiplier, among others.

I've always found stupid that I couldn't kill a sleeping guy silently. Why is this? Why can't I backstab a sleeping guy without him weaking up in full armor to fight back?

-Being able to "wait" and have your health and mana recharge.

Just out of curiosity, how many people actually did that?

When I was injured in the field (dungeon, wilderness, whatever), I cast resto spells (usually not a "mage" character, so it might take a few casts, and a bar or more of magicka) or drank potions. Only time I used the "wait" command was when I was in a town - mostly because the only things to "wait" for (a quest NPC showing up, a shop opening...) were in towns and outside combat.

...of course, another reason I never did it is that - because I only used Wait when I was in town & at full health - I never even knew that it healed you. Still, given that I almost never use free-range mattresses in Fallout 3, I doubt I'd have used OB Wait even if I knew about it.

-------

As for the original topic, hmm....

Most of the "I don't like that" things will be optional - like riding horses, or having companions. So, there's not much that I "don't want to see" that hasn't already been announced. (They said they have more voice actors, so no "everyone sounds like Linda Carter"; they said they're not using Oblivion level scaling; etc.)

So.... I guess I'll just say "don't force me to use horses or companions". :)

Mini games for skills that require player skill instead of character skill.

I dont agree on either your invisibility or your chameleon point of view.
Im a mage, and have no stealth skills. Ill use invisibility.
And Im also perfectly capable of restricting how much chameleon I wish to use, without it having to be hardcoded in the game like Im five.

im sure they will have a sand man perk like in fallout for sneak, i liked that perk
bugs are in every game i would rather have this game this year and not in 17 years so they can find every bug
combat-i dont want it to be me swinging a sword around relentlessly
races not being diffrent.
every body treating everybody else nicely, im sorry welcome to earth there is racism, rich hate the poor, people should be mean to others, beggars should be treated like crap by others,
1 hit kills, i dont what my enemies to be tanks per say but i don't want to hit a guy in heavy armor dieing in one hit either

i had no idea that in OB when you "waited" your hp and mana recharged! that would have been VERY useful during my gaming of OB >.< lols!

Stupid NPCs
(IE: Guard: "Ah, you must be the Arcane University's newest addition...")

Invisible walls.
I don't want to run into these while exploring within the map area.

"you cannot go that way. Turn back"
(let's be creative here..."Standing on the shores with Winterhold at your back, you marvel at the vastness of the sea in front of you. To proceed further would be folly." or "Past Windhelm is the vast mountain range of Morrowind, you see no clear path to proceed further." - or something like that)

Any form of level scaling of NPCs or mobs
(Scale caves, dungeons, and regions. Not the world as a whole.)

Riding on horseback at full gallop and being stopped suddenly by a bandit that wants my milk money.
(Ever jump out of a bush in the path of a 1,000lb. charging animal?)

This goes without saying but...
"Skyrim has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

My character is level 20 and running through the woods. Suddenly the battle music starts, I grab my weapon and prepare to fight the enemy...Oh, it's just a rat.

- People all-out sprinting up to you when when they have something terribly important to say.

- Not getting even half of a weapon's supposed value at the shops. Seriously, what is the purpose of listing some ridiculous Septim value when the most you can is 1700?

- Locking us into combat mode, preventing rest or fast travel, when the greatest nearby threat is a handful of mudcrabs.

- Enemies that just wait in caves, counting the hours until you come to kill them. The Necromancers and the Dawnies were billed as a serious threat to the Cyrodiilic way of life in OB, but while stealthing my way through their respective headquarters, all I found was a bunch of robed idiots, just kinda' standing around and twiddling their thumbs. Crystal Dragon Jesus, random bandits and skooma-freaks have more spunk than those yabbos. At least they get things done.

- Armor that doesn't really protect you. They need to take a page of Obsidian's book and important the damage threshold system. I always hate games were I'll be wearing a suit of the most expensive, angel-blood-enchanting super-mithril armor and yet I still lose huge chunks of health when I'm hit because it only works on percentiles of hit points.
