Things you've done that was unnecessary

Well... when you roleplay i guess anything you do could be considered unnecessary, but play along.

-Farkas droped his Skyrforge greatsword, so i went to his room in jorrvaskr and placed it on his table.

I am not sure you can consider this unnecessary, but whenever my character is in a conversation with multiple characters i have to stand at a spot that makes sense. For example, during the first lessons quest when you are in te lesson with Tolfdir, i have a habit of standing at the end of the line of students (And then trying to maneuver my follower to be in a sensical position within the group, though that ends up failing)

I'm currently doing something completely unnecessary - I'm moving the bulk of my possessions from Breezehome to Lakeview Manor without using any shortcuts. I'm loading up as much as I can carry, going out to my horse (who I left outside the Whiterun main gate), putting the stuff onto the horse, going back inside, picking up more stuff, then back to the horse, etc. When me, the horse, and the followers are full, we ride to Lakeview Manor (no fast traveling), unload everything, then do it all over again.

I find myself constantly doing things like that for roleplay reasons.

I make soul gems out of people I don't like then use their souls to make a iron dagger of w/e.

Nazeems soul dagger I gave to his wife. I even named it Nazeem~

Maven also got a gift from me when I gave her a dagger named "Daughter"

It's all useless but fun to me.

I bow and give thanks on something before shrines and any home made setups like the ones with wreathes and skulls in dungeons. Usually I will leave some food and drink or a book for any spirits existing there to entertain themselves with.

From unnecessary, to silly:

  • Have my follower stand aside, so that he/she "won't get hurt" by the Greybeards combined greeting speech.
  • Wait till Heimskr gets to his "where my breath is long winter", then shout Frost Breath.
  • Smile whenever Lydia wishes long life to my vampire character.
  • Jumping around whenever Jon Battle-Born mentions that "everyone is obsessed with death".
  • Same as above, following the rhythm of Raven Rock's main music theme.
  • Sleeping in beds, as a vampire -I guess some habits don't go away just like that.
  • When mounted and around non-hostile npcs, I always have the horse walk.

These, among the many weird things I've done and can't remember at the moment

Spoiler
You could give it back to him on the spot, by activating him until the "follower menu" opens and he asks you what you want him to do. Then tell him to pick up his sword. It's better explained here: "http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Proving_Honor#Bugs"

Fish-Breath

- uses bedtime clothes (pyjamas) when he sleeps comfortably at his home. Blue robes.

- hugs his wife every time when he sees her after a long time. Also before he leaves for long journeys.

- goes fishing. With fishing rod and net mods of course.

- rests and reads books if he is severely wounded. Especially if he broke any bones.

- often drinks too much during his travels as he misses his wife too much. Also when Lydia died Fish-Breath drank himself under a table.

- overeats. Once Fish-Breath got so much fish that he spent the next day in a food coma. :hehe:

That makes sense. I haven't even thought about it as I do it naturally. It would just be wrong if my character stood in an unproper spot.
