Things You Do to Keep Your Game Going

Post » Sun Jan 24, 2016 8:09 am

At sometime you come to a point where you feel you have accomplished everything, or have you? Another time, you just want your PC be a particular spot and enjoy the environment. This topic is mainly what keeps your PC going and not give up the game or have to create a new character.

For me, just hanging around heart of Boston has me going with a 100+ level PC. The wars between factions, enjoying a Mutant Suicider or two blowing up things up that does not involve my PC, and, if that is far enough, the BOS joining in, makes me love the game.

The story itself is subpar (for me since TES III is my benchmark game for Bethesda game pinnacle), but what Bethesda lacks since then, the environment, wandering (forget quests given to you, just be a wanderlust) this game is golden.

Thus the reason for this thread, what keeps you going to play the game? For me, what Bethesda does right, is the environment of random encounters and locations themselves. Wish the story writing is better, but they excel in wandering enough and either chaos is nearby or something else (a new dog, a new quest, or just meeting new NPCs [wish they fix the potential new random encounters vendors, level 4 as they do not show up, yet population count says they are there???

Ultimately, I just love wandering around Boston itself, and just enjoy other factions battles and join after is one is victor and put that one down, unless an ally. For anyone else, what about you?

? Collecting obscene amounts of copper for a leveling exploit I plan to do later.

? Rummaging through old buildings shooting up enemies, taking pleasure in killing those that used to give me a hard time at earlier levels.

? Had I been smarter, I would've kept all the factions alive so I could do all of their radiant questlines. Now I just have Preston's Settlement quests. >:[ Oh well, at least I can enjoy building settlements.

? Finding random things to do like trying to put trashcans over people's heads, or going through the settler's inventory and making them wear whatever clothing I want. Jun Long now wears a dress and Marcy/Mary Long wears a Raider outfit. (muwahahaha)

? Collecting Power Armors. Sadly, I was so stupid enough to sell all of my Fusion Cores (WHY!?) and I fear Fusion Cores don't respawn so now I have a bunch of Power Armors that don't really work anymore.

? Going on adventures with my companions. Sometimes I even make up my own quests like “Take the Wedding Ring into the Heart of the Glow and chuck it down from whence it came!”

? Modding and re-naming my weapons. They're all pretty silly. Gems include: "Revenge of the Yeller", "Mythbusters", "Mustafar", "Too Soon?" My 10mm is dubbed "Nate's Vengeance".

Killing the raiders in the Corvega plant just for old times sake. I just wish there was a way to taunt them back.

Y'know, I'm at such a high level, a part of me wonders if I shouldn't try to fight as many enemies as I can while wearing no clothing at all and wielding only a rusty pipe.

I can already hear the brain from the Fallout: New Vegas DLC now: “Well, maybe next time you hear me saying that CHARGING A [Deathclaw] WITH A PENKNIFE IS A BAD IDEA...you'll listen.” (...) “What do you think all those self-preservation instincts were, hmm? All those moments you thought, just for a fleeting second, “Maybe I shouldn't punch that Deathclaw in the face”, that was me SCREAMING at you!”

For me, at 120+ hours, I am nowhere near finishing the storyline quests. Instead I try to extend the game for as long as possible.

I hardly fast travel, which keeps things interesting in finding new locations and killing the enemies that respawn.

Settlement building. This can help if you set your intentions to completely furnish a settlement, requiring you to raid multiple locations for resources.

Radiant quests? I guess...

And i cannot stress enough how long you can keep the game going by avoiding fast travel. Instead, raid any little place your heart desires on the way to your next destination. (for example: running from Sanctuary to The Castle could fill an entire play session, if you take it slow and really stop to smell the radioactive roses)

But if you find all this boring, you may want to start a new game, this time try a new playstyle and invest in different perks (Stealth Melee character, perhaps?)

That's one of the few Fallout conversations that actually had me laughing out loud when I played it.

I got to level 60 and only had MM and Railroad radiants left and around 15 other quests in my journal so what I've done is reloaded a save from when I was level 14 and had only completed 6 quests in total. It's like a base to begin and I can still take the charactor in any direction as my SPECIAL are all 4+ at that level but not from the very start so now I can do as I please. I only fully cleared 100 locations in my first playthrough so have loads of new places and exploring insides to find/do still.
