I learned that separating yourself from people who separate you from the people you actually care for is a good idea. A couple years too late.

I learned that just over a year ago. Better late than never, I say.

That Clerks was made into a cartoon series.

Okay, so it isn't exactly an earth shattering revelation that could change man-kinds destiny..

It's still early in the day.

edit:
And that it isn't as bad as I thought it might be. Thanks Warhead :)

more of a tremor than earth shattering..

I had a funny conversation with a co-worker today. So I learned something new.

Me: So... have any forums you frequent gotten into this My Little Pony fad?
Him: Yeah, it's all over the Internet. What forums do you go on?
Me: Just Bethesda.
Him: What!? Oh wow, I bet you guys just recently got it and think it's all new.
Me: Yeah, it's been about a week or so.
Him: Ha, Bethesda gets everything late. It's been a meme for months now. Started on [site that should be unnamed] so long ago!

I laughed for a while.

I learned that washing my rugs just cost me $123 in washing machine repairs. :swear: It looks like it's time to find a new method of cleaning my rugs.

Oh really? Just because the lack of a central administration makes it impossible to intentionally induce inflation doesn't mean that it can't happen. If inflation was impossible, that means that I wouldn't be able to adjust the price in bitcoins of my product based on demand, which is obviously not true. Hence, it is possible that the average price in bitcoins of everything which can be purchased by bitcoins rises, which means inflation.

Whoops, inflation was the wrong word. [censored] knows where I got that from, herp derp.

Right, here is what I meant. I'm in New Zealand and we of course work in NZD, DEFRON is in the States and of course does everything in USD. It goes without saying that a dollar is a dollar to me and a dollar is a dollar to DEFRON. Now if I am to give one New Zealand dollar to DEFRON who works in USD, that NZD becomes roughly 80 cents because the 'central administration' says that my NZD is only worth about that. Flip that around and say that DEFRON was to give me 1 USD, I would get roughly $1.20 because the central administration says that DEFRONs USD is worth more than my NZD.

With bitcoins, I assume that isn't the case. If DEFRON was to give me 1 bitcoin, I would get the entire 1 bitcoin because there is no 'central administration' to say that it is worth more or less dependent on where I am located in the world.

That, I assume, is what he is getting at.

I learned that I have no idea how or where my freezer is plugged in. I wanted to defrost it but that's out of the question seeing as I can't turn it off. What's it running on?!

If it's hardwired into the house you'll have to cut power from the fusebox (just look for which group it facilitates and turn off that one)

otherwise it runs on hamsters in which case you have to disrupt the food delivery supply to the treadmill..

good luck, via con dios amigo and watch out for those alligators :goodjob:

Ugh. My fusebox is in an outbuilding filled with spiders. I only wanted the chips which are in a drawer that's frozen shut. I think I'll just buy some more chips.
If it is hamsters, my cat should have them covered. I'll cut off her food supply then hopefully she'll have some motivation to go hunting for lunch.

I learnt that you can't get nuclear powered fridges. Bummer.

I wonder if you can get cheese-powered fridges? I also learnt just in time that "that would be cool" would be a terrible albeit unintentional pun. But I seem to have said it anyway. Bugger.

If inflation was impossible, that means that I wouldn't be able to adjust the price in bitcoins of my product based on demand, which is obviously not true. Hence, it is possible that the average price in bitcoins of everything which can be purchased by bitcoins rises, which means inflation.

Inflation is possible, but inflation would be the direct result of the transaction system, which creates the bitcoins, hence a fully closed fiat system. No one can influence it, everything happens because of itself. Even the scale of production of bitcoins is fundamentally opposed to inflation (however, may cause deflation)

Also, you are confusing inflation of currency with inflation of an individual price. An inflation of currency will cause an inflation of all prices, but an inflation of price will not cause an inflation of currency (unless for all products on the market). Inflation of currency is something like what happened to the German Mark after WWI, inflation of prices is what happens because of supply and demand, but only effects a small section of the market. This kind of inflation generally will not spiral out of control, because as demand for one thing goes up, due to a short-term fixed income of consumers, demand for another thing must go down, making the market basket maintain the same price.

A rise in all prices can only happen when there is a devaluing of a currency, which stalls transactions, which reduces bitcoin production, which causes the bitcoin to gain value (unless it is in a downward spiral, in which case the system would kill itself).

But if he were to give you 1 bitcoin, how much USD would that be worth? Of course 1 bitcoin is worth 1 bitcoin, just as 1 USD is worth 1 USD. It's bitcoin compared to other currencies that matters.

I know what inflation is (I'm on the Internet, after all). Inflation of a significant portion of all prices will cause inflation. In fact, since "inflation" is only "a decrease of a currency's value", anything which increases the average price of everything causes a mini-inflation, even if just a single price gets increased by 1%. Of course, a significant portion of prices need to get increased for it to be actually noticeable.

I've also learned that http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-01-21 is definitely the weirdest web comic I've ever come across.

Weirder than http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F001.jpg

Concentrating when you're feeling ill is one of the worst experiences ever. I learnt that the hard way: a really bad case of food poisoning when I had a 40 mile drive ahead of me was so unpleasant I still remember it vividly many years on. And not just because I had to stop every few miles to throw up...
