Things you may not have known.

This stuff is awesome, and yet it mostly goes unnoticed. Another reason to depise the spoon feeding comments.

Little things don't matter as much. Just look at Pokemon. There are so many complex things happening in that game, it's insane.. yet the game itself isn't complex at all.
Skyrim is the same way, only it's not Pokemon. It's supposed to be complex on the surface, as most RPGs are, but Bethesda decided to rid the game of most of its complexity and streamline things at the cost of lore-specific locations/features and genre/TES staples.

I know being able to distract NPCs by shooting arrows at walls has been mentioned, but I'd also like to say that it works a lot better than Throw Shout. I can never get that to work properly.

In the under-keep quest in Markarth, when you have to find all the journals use a shout and later on after the quest is completed you will get a letter from a friend saying he heard you used the shout in the under keep and give you a quest, I can't remember all the details.

This is a random encounter that can happen multiple times, just about anywhere. In my experience all I ever did was use a non damaging shout in front of a guard, then shortly after a courier would show up with a note,

I haven't had time to read all six pages of this thread yet but thought I better post this in case someone hasn't yet.

During the loading screen, when the screen is black and there's a small tip or hint in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, whatever item or picture is on the screen at the time you can spin it around and make it move. On the Xbox you use the right thumb stick and I'm not sure what you use on the PC. Whatever you would use to spin items around in your inventory to look at them. And if you don't know this yet either you can also spin around the items in your inventory and zoom in on them.

I don't know if this is well known around the Skyrim community but I realized they were 3D and not just pictures and I was like, "Oh wow, neat!" It's nothing big, special or generally useful but it's something some people might not have known.

My apologies for looking like a fool if someone has indeed already mentioned this in a previous post earlier in the the thread.

The Ritual Stone can allow you to raise any killed enemy except Dragons; serves as a much more powerful "Raise Dead" spell, but it affects all around you for several feet. If you have 8 corpses next to you, you can use the Ritual power to raise all 8 of them. Unlike Conjuration spells, this will also raise Trolls, giants, any animal, etc; it just won't work on Dragons.

EDIT: I just tested the Ritual Stone's power again; this time, I tested it by standing next to a pile of 21 soldiers (Imperial and Stormcloak; got them all into a pile myself). It rose all 21 of the bodies.

More fun with FUS...

I tried it out on some dragonflies, but it seems to just make them disappear... however, it killed a bunch of fish in the water.

-FUS RO DAH at an enemy's feet will sometimes launch them into the air.

The truest word that has been spoken - my playthrough (something like 260 hours) in which there is no fast travel --- questlines completed 1 (thieves guild, although still not guildmaster). Yep, just 1, one, (as in one single solitary), questline completed in all that time, yet a HUGE amount of adventure along the way. And I have still not: completed the main quest; taken sides in the civil war; visited an Orc stronghold; discovered half the locations on the map. Anyone who says they have done the game already is doing it wrong!

Yup. It's how I'm rolling. Takes a long time to get places, but what experiences!

I had a dragon fight a herd (bunch) of Horkers....then it attacked me. After I killed it, here comes the remaining horkers, to attack me, thinking it was me that attacked?!! I had to kill 4 of them and was already spent from the dragon plus a wispmother. OUch.

No. Friggin'. Way. :blush2:
Does it have a name?

I don't really dabble in magic too much, but that might change if this is true.

It's called a wabbajack. It's changes any living thing you point it at India random creature or item. Type it in on the web and you'll see the name of the side mission you get it from. It's my favorite mission in the game. Your stuck in a dream or something. Another cool one is a rose that summons this really bad ass dude. I forget the name. Just type in rose+skyrim on google and it should pop up.

You can reverse pickpocket paralysis poisons on any NPC's and steal everything they have in their inventory without getting detected and zero chance of failure (excluded equipped items unless you have the master perk). You can also Ice Breath freeze them and do the same since its considered a non-hostile shout. If you were so inclined you could buy 20k in training for a high level skill, reverse pickpocket/shout and steal it back, or just regular thieving. Since pick pocketing is insanely easy to level this gives you access to a lot of fun gear you'd normally either pay thousands for, or have to wait until mid-late game to get. Master robes, enchanted weapons etc. You can master pick pocketing in short order just in Whiterun/Riverwood.

You can enchant a weapon with absorb stamina 1 and have infinite power attacks as early as level one, provided you find the weapon (if you dual wield, keep your dagger unenchanted and use elemental fury for lightning quick power attacks). A guaranteed stamina absorption weapon is located in Labrynthian.

Ebony armor and weapons are available at level one in any high altitude (harder difficulty) Nord Tombs, most deathlords can be killed with fancy footwork or stealth and a bow very early with patience, yielding ebony gear without smithing and needing to level to 35+.

When leveling block you can get almost a level per attack by blocking and partially dodging a giants power attack. This can effectively be done with the slow time perk; you can skyrocket blocking to 100 with a giant trying to squash you ;).

Listening to bandit dialog while hidden is hilarious, also listening to Babette in the DB is hilarious.

There is a black sacrament taking place in the basemant of the Black Briars Home in Riften. I don't know if anyone knew that. There is a note about him complaining that they didn't answer his summon.

I was at the Black-Briar Lodge earlier and cast a calming spell on one of the mercenaries or whatever there. She told me I shouldn't be there and started calling for the guards, but of course they didn't come. Then I killed her. :D. Yay, Illusion! The Wabbajack turns people into objects? Whenever I used it before, it seemed to just do random frost or fire damage to things.

When a lockpick breaks it will fall in the direction of the sweet spot.

For me, it always goes in the absolute opposite direction of wherever it is when it breaks, so that's definitely not true at least in my game.

I just found this one.

I can't believe I missed it. When on a loading screen you can control the smoke with your thumb sticks. Everyone probably knows this.

Above about the wabblejack. It turns people into small animals for me. It's also does magic spells. There was a discussion about this a few days ago and someone or some people were talking about eating Lydia after changing her to a sweetroll. Could have been trolling but it all sounded legit.

It 'glides' in any random direction, but the split second where it breaks it will fall either left or right of itself.

On Xbox 360 not sure about the pc.

When having a bow equipped (on your back) and in stealth (crouch)and moving along as fast as crouch allows if you then unsheath it (get it ready to use) while still moving forward and not stopping you'll begin to move forward at a more accelerated pace than is normally allowed while crouching.

Here is a good one I use all the time.

This trick comes in handy the entire game but mainly during the lower levels. For console users we only has tr left and right directional for hotkeys. What I found early on is I'd you put a health potion on one of them it avoids popping into the menu for health. Just press the button and you have health. Works just as good with magic or any type of potion you use alot. Just make sure you haw plenty of that exact potion stocked up.

Some people complain because of having to go into the menu then going to the map. If you press circle and down at the same time very quickly(circle just a little quicker) the map pops right up basically bypassing the menu screen. Same thing with the other menu tabs. Just hit circle and the directional. Ps3 of course.

Throughout skyrim you will find maps with flags on them. Click the flag and that location will update to your map.

All these things I didn't know at first but stumbles across them during gameplay.

Cool I didn't know that about the maps.

One of the coolest things I've seen was in one of the jarls missions where you end up having the court mage arrested. (Sorry I don't recall specifics. It's been a while.)
You accompany the jarl's man, who grabs a guard on the way, and makes the arrest. OK, the quest is over. The jarl's man leaves and the all the updating messages
and effects play out You can go on about your business.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to watch what happens next, if anything. The guard takes the offending mage into custody, then takes him to the dungeon.
After crossing the castle through many rooms and going down a couple levels, they arrive at the cells, and the mage is installed in one. IIRC, he says "This isn't over",
or something like that.

Just the fact that they bothered to script that whole thing that 99% of players wouldn't see was impressive. In previous games, they would have just been left there standing,
or walked to a convenient door and disappeared. Makes me wonder how much else is going on 'behind the scenes'.

I thought that was cool, too, but then I felt like they hadn't scripted enough since when you speak to him, he doesn't even seem to realize he's in jail and he'll still talk to you about quests and give you training. I even unlocked his door and opened it and he just stood there smiling at me.

*goes off to get another Wabbajack and tries to remember to look closer next time I pick a lock*
