I think becoming over-cumbered will be a common issue.

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:15 pm

So, in Fallout 3, I always found myself carrying too much stuff. I would always want to carry a lot of weapons, but loot a lot of new stuff. I would always pick up enemies guns with high value, to sell them. My companions were always full, and I would upgrade strength and pick Strong Back many times.

Now, with the new weapon modifcations, I think it will be worse. Its bad enough I like carrying many weapons, but now I will drag around what used to be crap items, like Toasters and Toy cars, to get a mod for each one of my guns.

Before, I would only pick up useless crap to make a special gun, but once I did that, I would never pick it up again.

Im sure Im going to carry a lot of weapons, and for each one of them, more stuff to mod with them.

Either I learn to foucs on one gun mod at a time, or die from my spine snapping in half...

Anyone else feel the same?

That's why I plan to just clean sweep one area at a time. Pick an area clean, go back to my settlement... drop off my stuff, continue scavenging.

Since I tend to use a two gun approach I have little worry on that front.

Booted up fallout the otherday, took one look around the building I was in, and realized that if I had actualy looted all of the crap that was still locked down or not loot able I would be overloaded from just the first room.

Depends on how much items weigh compared to our average carry weight. A lot of things might weigh nothing at all, and most clutter items will probably weigh very little. Especially items we plan on collecting a lot of. It looks like we get a base of 200 carry weight plus 10 per each point of STR; it would be awesome if we got a perk like Pack Rat, though.

As in you carry 20-30 weapons just walking around? Yea, that's a little overkill.

For all we know the weight system might be different this time around.

Well since you won't have to carry 3 or more weapons of the same type just to maintain a semblence of effectiveness you should be able to carry more crap.

I think I exaggerated. 10-25, at most 25 when Im in the mall. Hey, in the Mall, you can never have too much firepower.

Watching streams of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas i also noticed that 99% of players hoard every possible item they can find in their inventory and then later in their homes... For me this was always strange and unusual since i only picked up the most valuable stuff (mostly weapons) and would instantly sell/repair with it to get better equipment and stimpacks. i never understood the logic behind hoarding why keep that [censored] in your inventory? you wont use it, you wont sell or become rich on those items because they are valueless, you wont ever need it and it will be in your inventory or house for the rest of the game.. just laying there. although one thing only i hoarded too and those were drugs because they had almost no weight and you could sell them anytime you wished for lots of caps. so yeah while for me it was never a problem i see it being one for the majority of players.

I always had like 50 of everything, and never needed to sell much because caps came easy. Why hoard? I dunno, I did it without really thinking. When I first played fallout 3, I didn't know what was important and what wasn't so I picked up literally everything not nailed down. When leaving super duper mart I was beyond over cumbered because I picked it clean of everything, including all of the tin cans. With Fallout 4 and everything having purpose, I'll be picking up everything not nailed down.

I feel the same way, especially now that there will be less SPECIAL points than before. I'm sure Bethesda has already thought about this though and has planned accordingly. Have faith, they are one of the current companies who haven't sold their soles just to cash grab their fans.

*cough* EA *cough*

I usually carry a plate, cup, toaster, spoon, fork, knife, cooking gear on my character at all times and use it for roll playing purpose. As well as cleaners and detergents. I usually have a backpack from a mod to help carry these things.

I would have this problem, being an extreme hoarder of the components for WRKs in FNV, but I drop stuff off into a bin whenever I get close to encumbered.

If every piece of trash has some value as a component in F4, I'm going to be stashing even more stuff I suppose.

Really hate being encumbered though, so I rarely actually reach the carry limit.

One of the first mods I'll be seeking is a Bag Of Holding. I like displaying items in my house, some are used for repairing other items, some are for sale, etc. and with the mods and housing crafting and such, I just cannot see any way to play the game without infinite storage. :)

[censored] right? god it svcks to see so many game developers try to release what would be considered half a game years ago and then charge extra for DLC that should have been added in the core release. I think battlefront will be the biggest disappointment. And I was super excited for it. If you look at EAs facebook page it's just their own fans [censored]ting on the game

Thank god Bethesda still earns my love and respect

32 maps to 9 maps, in ten years.

"Why are there only 9 maps?"

"We plan to add more maps and planets in future updates"

"So, DLC?"

"Yes, we planned for DLC."

Chainsaw them.

Chainsaw them all.

Yeah, I'm a super looter, and looking forward to it! :D

...on the other hand, to make sure I have plenty of space for loot, I make sure to drop off everything I can in my house before setting off adventuring. Basic set of weapons, armor, utility/aid items. Maybe 90 lbs out of ~250. Six weapons, not 20. (seriously, what do you need that many weapons for? In FO3, you find plenty of ones in loot to repair with..... standard Small Guns load: 1. melee weapon or light pistol, 2. heavy pistol, 3. hunting rifle for light sniping, 4. assault rifle, 5. shotgun, 6. sniper rifle. plus a half dozen grenades & mines.)

Carry around a half ton of junk will always be an issue, but I think its safe to say we will have safe storage as soon as we leave the vault. Considering we come out very close to our own home which seems to be in the middle of a settlement building site and there is a red rocket up the road, assuming that is one we can use. :)

Loot, run home, repeat haha

And I doubt we will have to hoard 80 toasters to craft a gun barrel. Common items will be easy pickings, it's the rare components I'll be scavenging for

I usually set out with a scoped weapon, an assault weapon (assault rifle or shotgun), a back up pistol and a bladed emergency weapon.

Due to the new crafting system it will probably pay to keep looting, unlike Fallout 3 where once my caps were pretty high I generally stopped looting expect for weapons (and ammo of course) and occasionaly armour that was high value or that I needed to repair mine. Looting lost its luster since I had no reason to continue to pick all that junk and what would have been a good find earlier in the game became worthless crap later on.

I definitely know what you mean. Unless I planned on using the item, I never picked up anything with less than a 5:1 value/weight ratio. Even with companions, there was too much valuable loot to pass up. After awhile, the lockers in my Megaton house were stuffed with hundreds of high-end weapons and armor. In New Vegas, ED-E was constantly loaded down with wrenches, duct tape, scrap electronics, scrap metal, and wonderglue to make weapon repair kits. I can only imagine how much junk I'm going to end up picking up now that almost everything has a purpose.

I don't think it's going to be any more of an issue than it is already. You only really need 1 or a few of each clutter item for one dungeon run anyways. Unless you feel the need to craft every weapon as much as you can for no reason other than to say you did. It's a big world, I'm sure you'll come across the items you need as you go along. No need to hoard if you don't want to.
