Think Beth'll let Obsidian make another FA game?

Post » Wed Jun 10, 2015 8:58 am

They let them use the old engine for New Vegas. So maybe they will do the same with the FA4 engine. Would you want it?

I hope so, New Vegas was so good I'd love to see what else they can do in the fallout world.

This would probably be better off in the http://www.gamesas.com/forum/34-fallout-series-discussion/ and I think there is a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1519138-im-excited-because-obsidian-gets-to-make-the-next-one/ there about this as well. <--I'm not a mod

On topic though: I would very much appreciate if Bethesda would allow Obsidian to create another Fallout game. For one, New Vegas was in my top 2 Fallout games (I go back and forth with 2). Secondly, it helps with the wait.

They did a better job at making a game than bgs with bgs's engine.

Ide like the next game by them to take place in Texas or Arizona.

I've heard talk here about New Orleans

if Beth feels the same need to produce a filler game I′m sure they outsource it (they wanna focus on making the next ES after all) and Obsidian seams like a natural fit, of course that′s assuming Obsidian can take up on the offer.

Both companies would probably be open to it if the conditions were right, but it would have to be on Bethesda's timing. Obsidian would have to be otherwise project free during a window when BGS wasn't actively promoting or supporting one of their own offerings.

Ah right, apologies, I didn't look there. Only went back a few pages here.

Anyway personally I think it'll happen, hope it will. Both had good points and bad points, things the other did better. It was interesting to see what the makers of the originals (some of) brought to it. And I thought it was good of Beth to let them do it.

Considering how buggy it was. I don't really believe this. Most of the bugs present in New Vegas were also present in FO3 and they were patched in FO3 before NV even released or was announced. Unless you are talking about storyline or something but stability wise they did a worse job in my opinion and let's not forget all those invisible walls that had no business being there.

I hope they let Obsidian carry on with the West Coast Fallout stuff. I wouldn't mind a Fallout set in Northern California, Oregon or Washington. Imagine a Fallout set in and around the massive mutated Redwood forests :)

bugs were fixed quickly by modders including invisible walls witch you could use tcl to get through (if you don't have a PC than svcks for you).
If you play on a potato, you'll have stability problems for sure.
It ran perfectly for me and Ive never had stability issues with it. The weapons armour lanscape and enemies were much better than fallout 3.

Dialoge and quests I agree.

Worldbuilding, meshes, scripting, random encounters, I disagree.

Gotta disagree with worldbuilding. New Vegas did a much better job at worldbuilding especially when it comes to settlements as the settlements in New Vegas actually make sense unlike three's terribly made settlements that have no real ways of surviving nor have any economy that would actually advance the settlement. Each one really makes little sense.

Realistic maybe... but boring. Goodspring was the only one which had a bit of quality shining through.

The bugs that were present were fixed in Fallout 3. They used Fallout 3's resources so they had no excuse. It shouldn't be up to modder's to fix developer's mistakes and tcl is really immersion breaking.. You do know you can turn off the walls in the ini file right? Which shouldn't have to be done. I'm not sure what game you were playing but the textures in NV looked like they were being rendered by a potato compared to FO3 and the PC version is just as buggy and unstable as the consoles and requires tweaks to avoid it crashes all the time. Let's not forget how a few mods causes it to lose memory in a matter of 10-15 minutes requiring a 4gb patch. It's a buggy mess that requires mods on most systems at least FO3 was playable without mods.

I hope that they will, I actually hope they let them make multiple games while we have the long wait for Fallout 5.

I will say that fonv after developer patches is a lot more stable than fo3 after all the patches (bar PS3 version). Also fonv was just as buggy as fo3 on release and fo3 even had dlcs that wouldn't work the first day on release for any system. Of course all of this glossed over and the finger pointed was very heavy handed when obsidian got ahold of it.

I have no idea what you're talking about. For me the current build runs flawlessly. When NV first came out it was a buggy mess yes. But now the game runs much better, and I never had problems running mods even big ones like "Project Brazil."

The thing about that is. They used Fallout 3's resources after the bugs were fixed but still managed to get the same bugs appearing again. Why not use the patched Fallout 3 code where those bugs were removed? It also does not explain why the textures are horrible compared to FO3 or why it crashes more than FO3 still to this day with all patches applied.

Not really and I prefer realistic over settlements that literally don't make sense, hell Megaton and Rivet city are just stupid grade settlements. Megaton is made of planes from an airport that is miles away from their home and Rivet city is surrounded by poisonous water, super mutants, raiders and feral ghouls, the one path that most people use is a nightmare and the ship itself is rotting away, filled with rust and diseases and incapable of any kind of expansion. Hell, there are super mutants literally a few feet away from the entrance to the city. It is just so stupidly designed.

No issues man. Like I said I'm not a mod. I just figured I'd direct you and make it easier in case a mod wanted to merge this thread.

Personally I don't think Bethesda has anything to lose. They'll make the money without having to make the game and it serves as a way to keep fans interested during their dev cycle.

Opinions will be opinions. I thought New Vegas locations were far more interesting. Alas my opinion is just my opinion.

It'd be interesting if Bethesda made Fallout games on the East Coast, Obsidian could do the West ones. Though I can imagine this leading to a "Bethesda vs Obsidian" flame war if they do a leapfrog thing

I hope so!

BGS releases their Fallout games located on the Easy Coast and then they allow Obsidian to follow up with a West Coast setting using FO engine.

Without the use of the New Vegas 4gb patch the game loses memory every 10-15 minutes and crashes. This can happen with only a few mods installed. Also, have you seen the textures in the game? Most of them are horrible, some of them appear in Fallout 3 and they looked better in that game which I am sure is caused by a graphical bug that was never fixed because there are a few good lucking textures in the game that make the ones I am referring too look laughable. This is vanilla game with all patches. I may even post some screenshots later to show what I am referring to. The Hunting rifle is one I remember. It looks like crap in NV compared to FO3.

New Vegas has more assets, more advanced scripts and content then three does, thus it uses more memory then three did and they had to cut things up because of consoles not being able to handle it. Really, three's only more stable because it lacks the amount of content and script work NV has. As for memory problems blame them on forced console limitations rather then the game being badly programmed.
