Do ya think Fallout 4 will be the best Fallout game to date?

Fallout New Vegas was a big improvement to Fallout 3. Fallout 3's post apocalyptic look was incredible but it was annoying to travel through many metro stations to get around the map.

New Vegas is probably the best Fallout game to date. Do you think Fallout 4 will be able to surpass New Vegas? A lot of people agree that New Vegas was a better game than Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 was developed by Bethesda Game Studios whereas New Vegas was developed by Obsidian Entertainment.

So you think Bethesda's Fallout 4 will be better than Obsidian Entertainment's New Vegas?

If so, tell me why you think that Fallout 4 will be the best Fallout game to date. Thanks.

Fallout 3 didn't really lack much and fallout new vegas is not better than fallout 3, in ways it is, but in fallout 3 the dlc were way better then fallout new vegas dlc. Fallout 4 should be a great game and it will be better then both fallouts combined. This is one of those threads about comparing which fallout is better, which im not here to state a fact only my opinion comes into mind on this and to say one games better then the other like saying is the elder scrolls six going to best game to date. I see your point, but comparison threads don't really turn out well unless your saying fallout 3 not great and fallout new vegas is way betters, it's in everyone general opinion to which game is better, liked more and etc.

Since I liked FO3 tons more than New Vegas, I'm sure FO4 will be beeter than FONV. Actually I think it will exceed FO3 or Skyrim but just look at what we've seen and make your own judgement.

Far too early to know just how much Im going to like 4 but its sounding like Im going to enjoy it a lot.

I enjoyed 3 a lot too and got 600 hours out of the game roughly. (a little bit over actually)

I didnt like NV much at all. So little in fact I could only stomach to play it for 40 hours before giving it away for free to a friend who only kept it himself for about a week before trading it in at gamestop. Pretty safe to say Ill like 4 a lot more than that but hopefully Ill get hundreds or even a thousand of hours out of it.

I think it will be my favorite to date. Best is subjective. After all, there is a small but very, very vocal group of posters on these forums who are sure to chime in here and point out that there were several Fallout titles around before Fallout 3 and then proceed to put those on a ridiculously high pedestal. ;)

Washington, D.C. was a great location for a Fallout game. Las Vegas was not. Unfortunately, the main story in Fallout 3 was atrocious and much of Fallout 3 was somewhat boring or uninteresting. Fallout New Vegas made things a bit more lively with factions, morality, and more reactive choices, but it was still far from perfect? Will Fallout 4 be better? Probably. It has overhauled shooting mechanics and it has a voiced protagonist which means the story will probably be better. The crafting actually makes sense for a post-apocalyptic world, even though settlement building will likely be pointless beyond a QoL addition. We'll see though. Fallout 3 and Fallout NV were good games, but I think BGS can do a lot better. TES, in my opinion, has overall been a much stronger franchise so far.

I love all of my children equally.
F3 and NV are both great for some of the same, but some differing reasons.

But on the serious.
I expect that Bethesda has learned/planned a lot since their first foray in the FO universe and that they have gleaned a few things from working with Obsidian.
I should hope that it's better than either of the two previous games.

But- I would be OK if it were only as good as the previous two.

Fallout 3 had its pros and cons, and it's the same with New Vegas...

It's all about personal preference.

Will say no more...

At the very least, FO4 will (hopefully) be better than FO3. As gamesas's first foray, FO3 was a good attempt at the series (even a several older fans of the first two Fallout games say that FO3 is a decent Fallout game, it just didn't deserve the numeric designation.)

However, with lessons learned from FO3 and FONV, it should hopefully be better than both. So, if you think one of those two were the best...

Either way, I excpect that FO4 will be the game that truly defines gamesas's direction and vision for the series. It's hard to tell which parts of FO3 were there due to gamesas's vision, or just because of general unfamiliarity of the IP.

This is somewhat off topic, but Bethesda Softworks (gamesas) does not make games. Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) does. The publisher and game studio used to be one in the same pre-Oblivion, but separated as Zenimax began to buy more game studios that it needed a general publisher to accommodate.

As far as the topic, hype alone already made this better than Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas combined. Regardless of the quality of the game, Fallout 4 is already the "best" as it will easily outsell either one of those titles.

From what we seen so far, it has the potential, Beth is showing much more confidence in there ability to make a Fallout game and in my book this time they are doing things there way, not the old fans way, which is good in my mind.

Boston is a great location for a Fallout game. It has the history, it has MIT. It has Boston Harbor and thus a chance to expand Fallout into the water, should Bethesda choose to do so. Imagine the possibilities of under water complexes, battles, sunken ships, hidden underwater treasure, and, of course, new water born creatures - mutated sharks anyone? There are also plenty of old ghost stories, odd happenings, strange and humorous events to draw upon in the area to add color to the game. So the setting is a good choice.

The game engine has been updated and the team has more experience with it. They have also, obviously, taken ideas from the modding community and incorporated them into the base game. This bodes well for the game's design, in my opinion.

As to the content/features - I'm not an FPS fan, so the shift towards more of an FPS-heavy nature to the game isn't a big selling point for me, but I know that others will be extremely happy with it and I may come to like it as well. I do like the changes to VATS that I have seen, and I am...open minded...about the changes to the criticals system. I like what they have done with attributes and perks, and the fact that there is no level cap. I also like that they have lowered your starting SPECIAL points. This makes the initial character build more important - but allows you to build on it as you go. I am also a fan of games like The Sims, so settlement building is a huge selling point for me. I also love how everything in the world will now be usable in some way - for modding things, if nothing else. This bodes well, in my opinion, for a decent chance at a fairly decent economy in the game. I also like the fact that the protagonist is voiced. I enjoyed SWTOR when it first launched in a large part because it was fully voiced. I like how companions can be directed to do things for you. And I love that we get to play, however briefly, in the Pre-War world.

Of course, there are a GREAT many unknowns - and because of them, I have to reserve some of my enthusiasm for what otherwise looks like a beautiful game. I think that FO4 will easily surpass the other Fallout games, but...there is always the chance that it will fall on its face. Perhaps it will be bugridden (or, moreso than most games). Perhaps the writing won't be good, or the story will be horrible. Or, perhaps, it will be so complex that modding it will be such a chore that most modders will throw up their hands in frustration and decide not to bother - leaving only the most dedicated modders, and generally tiny mods that do very little beyond changing some textures.

We will see...when we see. Personally, I am hopeful. But only time will tell.

See signature line below. Seriously.

From everything I've seen, I have this insanely high expectation of Fallout 4. I know it cannot live up to everything I want and hope from it. Will it be the best Fallout game to date? I have a strong feeling that, for me, it will be and then some. For others, I cannot answer. Some will love it. Some will hate it. Some will come to grudgingly come to love it. Some will immediately discount it because it isn't like Fallout 1, 2, or some new iteration of the Black Isle era. All depends on what itches it scratches for the players.

Been a fan of gamesas since Morrowind. I don't care what they call themselves, they'll always be good ol' Bethesda Softworks to me!

... Right up until Gstaff or a Dev specifically says to me, "cut it out".

To be fair all they need to do is improve upon Fallout 3's environment and New Vegas's game play and I will claim it to be better.

For me? Yeah it'll be the best one yet. They'd really have to botch improving on 3/NV. Those weren't super exceptional games for the most part. That being said, they are by far my most played games of anything I've ever owned, but that's for a lot of reasons. I started new 3 and NV playthroughs after 4 was announced and wanted to go different routes than I ever had. I'm still amazed at different areas I find and new quests after all this time. Their ability to keep me coming back, regardless of the quality of game (visuals, mechanics) compared to competition, is what makes it for me. Now adding to that, the greatly improved weapon customization and building features I'm sure this will be my favorite game for a long time

I wouldn't be surprised if it became hard to go back and play 3 or New Vegas after Fallout 4, but seeing as how I still go back and play Daggerfall and Morrowind I don't think that will be a problem. And one of the advantages of the first two Fallout games being such completely different kinds of RPGs is that Bethesda will never outdo them for that kind of Fallout game.

If gameplay trumps story then from what I 've seen fallout 4 has already beat fo3 and nv combined.

Some of the main things I like about fallout is the dark humor, writing, lore, world building etc., etc., etc., crap like that which is what I personally consider to be what makes "Fallout" Fallout. There's just nothing out there like it.

I really don't like the dialogue wheel among some other things and the writing doesn't look so great either from what I've seen so far, but it looks amazing in every other aspect gameplay wise . That's just me though, it's the whole reason I like NV the best out of the entire series since it combines the best of 3 and the old games, which is what I stated above.

So much of this is so totally subjective...

I actually think Fallout 4 could potentially be one of my favorite Fallout games. I don't tend to rank everything in my life along hard criteria - I have my favorite foods (and maybe I could pick one as my very top favorite,) but it's not like I could rank every food I like in order from 1 to 5. I've enjoyed all the Fallout games (save for The Game Which Shall not be Named,) for different reasons.

What I enjoyed about Fallout 3 was it's world-building and attention to detail. As a long-time fan of the series I got a kick out of seeing this stuff rendered in 3d, and I think Bethesda really brought a lot to the table in terms of visual style. Looking through the art book from the collector's edition, I really became a huge fan of their art direction. Bethesda has an admirable attention to detail and level design.

New Vegas built on a lot of that ground-work - of course there's going to be improvements from the base game. I don't mean this condescendingly by any means, but for all intents and purposes New Vegas was essentially a stand-alone expansion for Fallout 3. They ironed out some mechanical wrinkles and brought their own talents to the table, but fell short in other areas that Bethesda is stronger in. (In past threads I've compared it to two artists working on different versions of the same painting. The "Fallout 3" artist getting too caught up in minutae and forgetting to step away from the canvas from time to time; the "New Vegas" artist having better compositional work and proportions but lacking the flair and execution of the prior artist's brushwork.)

I've been curious to see what Bethesda would be able to do with a Fallout 4. A lot of Fallout 3 was about "rebooting" the franchise, trying to appease everybody while still attempting to stick to their guns. I think this time out they're a little more free to really do what they intended to with the series without having to worry as much about paying proper obeisance to the past games. I think there's a good chance that Fallout 4 will be a lot closer to their real vision of what they had in mind for the franchise - I may not agree with all of those decisions but I'm going to be very interested to see where they go with this.

I replayed FO3 at least 5 times, maybe more than that. I tried 3 times with New Vegas and just never liked it, and I still don't.

I think FO4 will be better ,mostly because for me, each of Bethesda's TES games just keep getting better and better for me. I want to stress that is my own personal enjoyment, there are a lot of players whose favorite TES game is Daggerfall, Morrowind, or Oblivion.

Having never played F1, 2, and Tactics, I can't really say. I think it will beat F3 and New Vegas though.
