So I think I'm going to wipe out the Minute Men...

The Omertas aren't real Mafia, they are tribals pretending to be the Mafia because House Wanted a Mob themed casino.

As far as the "laser muskets" go they are probably used by people who cannot afford or craft better weapons. They make radios and flashlights powered by batteries charged with a little Dynamo turned by a crank now......why not a 1-2 shot laser rifle powered using scavenged Pre-War components? Maybe a faction is making them for sale to people who cannot afford to buy ammo or MFCs. It's not that outrageous compared to some of the things that exist in Fallout.

The "Vaults being experiments" thing was from Fallout 2, and the Fallout Bible.

I always found it odd how the tribes went from tribes to playing stereotypical Vegas cliche characters perfectly in 7 years flat with basically no resistance to the idea.

There was resistance. Benny had to kill the old leader of his tribe in single combat in order to convince them to accept the deal, while Mortimer secretly has several followers who wish to revert back to the old habits of the White Gloves. It's also worth mentioning that these are the only three tribes to accept the offer, as there were others who simply refused.

And on the topic of New Vegas having references as well, indeed it does, but not to a degree that it becomes cliche. As it was stated, the Omertas are an invention of Mr. House. This leaves the only group within the entirety of the game that's actively mimicking history of the region to be the Kings. I have absolutely nothing against a historical reference so long as it's not overdone to the point where the entire game becomes "LOOK HOW MUCH THINGS ARE THE SAME AS THEY WERE BEFORE!!"

But a Gauss rifle makes sense. It's consuming more power to produce a more deadly shot.

The laser musket is an issue because either:

A.) The laser musket produces more damage....somehow. Somehow putting a crank on it magically ups it's damage output and firing power. Really, you've basically highlighted that turning a crank can somehow produce the same effects as consuming 5 times the energy as normal, which just makes it all sound even more absurd. If this were true, everyone would want a damned crank on their gun instead of paying for MFCs.

B.) The laser musket is lower-grade weaponry that the Minutemen are actively electing to use, thereby putting their lives at risk by insisting upon such inferior tech.

As said above, it's mentioned in game, but now I'm curious. How does it break canon? It's a tiny little comic, as far as I recall.

I'm enjoying the people of this forum acting as if they're suddenly experts on the inner-workings and mechanics of a fictional weapon based on less than a minute of gameplay shown of the gun in use. Teach me your ways.

>The comic shows NCR soldiers riding horses, yet horses haven't existed since the war, and that was canon years before NV existed.

>To khans are dead at the tribal camp in-game, yet none die during the battle in All Roads.

>numerous inconsistencies with NCR armor n the comic and in-game.

>Chance's map is entirely different, and located in completely the wrong spot, in the comic.

Big one was horses though, they are all over the place in the comic's flashback of the Bitter Springs incident.

I think the point of the crank is that they don't have to carry microfusion cells around (even if it uses them from your inventory). Very dumb design.

Maybe it's a really advanced crank.

The crank will be the smallest of your problems with the writing. http://kotaku.com/leaked-documents-reveal-that-fallout-4-is-real-set-in-1481322956

Yeah I looked it up on the wiki and saw it's clarified by Avellone as being an oversight. The way you made it sound, I thought you meant the comic was like breaking lore left and right, but most of it's just little discrepancies like Chance's Map not being on an elevated spot like it is in the comic or the like, which is the kind of stuff I'd expect when the artist has to visualize the stuff while not having the game data on hand. Was expecting something like "it claims the King runs the New Vegas Strip!" or something ridiculous.

What I don't get is why they just don't retreat and come up with a better strategy? Garvey himself made it clear that his numbers were dwindling so...maybe they need to change their tactics? Go find better weapons than what they're using? Also, they had a power armor, why didn't they just use that in the first place? Instead they were, what, just waiting around hoping someone could help them?

They're too dumb to find the building's power supply, what makes you think they can handle that?

Maybe we should wait until we get more details about their situation before judging.

Did the posters panning Minutemen and the Underground make similar complaints about Caesar's Legion, The Kings and the casino mafiosos from New Vegas? Or are things like that cool when Obsidian does it but lame when coming from Bethesda?

Yeah. What kind of clan names themselves after historical Boston events in the American Revolutionary War?

You could read, since that's pretty much all been discussed.

Tl;dr Historical inspiration is cool when it's not overdone or when the inspiration makes sense, it's cliché and makes you groan if suddenly every single person is inspired by every single historical event ever in Boston. People are alarmed not because we have a group called the Minutemen, but because we have them, laser muskets (used in the most nonsensical way ever), a supposed red-coat ghoul, and at this point we're just waiting on an announcement of the Boston Nuka Cola Party before calling it a day.

So having Freeside run by a gang of Elvis impersonators complete with jailhouse rock outfits and greased hair 200 years after the war isn't overdone, but these Minutemen rebels playing off of Revolutionary War themes is? Okay ...

Can't wait for a "spinoff" that ignore the bethesda BS. Like the rock-it-launcher and the dart thingy. I'm sure there isn't going to be a rifle with cranking handles in the next "spinoff". Damn the amount of bad taste in the bethesda FOs, how can people find them enjoyable? It's like playing with Wild Wasteland always on.

In all fairness, we don't know how connected or separate the three of those things are; we know the Minutemen use laser muskets, so it may simply be part of their gimmick, and we know nothing about the tricorn-wearing redcoat-looking fellow or his context in the setting.
