I think I'm in love!

I made a character a week or so ago, who was an explosives character. I managed to find him the Alien Blaster at level 6(pretty wild, huh?) and decided to clear out the Dead Wind Cavern and destroy the Legendary Deathclaw and grab myself the "Mercy" Shortly afterwards, I went to a vendor and found the Grenade Machinegun, which IMO, is better than Mercy(Mercy uses the same ammo as my grenade launcher, which is bad) How somebody sold a Grenade machine gun at level 6 is beyond me. Anyways, I went to Nellis and picked up a bunch of HE rounds for it, and went on a massive killing spree! I went to Quarry Junction and wiped all the Deathclaws out! I wanted to do some long range killing, so I found the Annabelle, and used that with either HV or HE rounds, and it's amazing. They are perfect for eliminating a pack of cazadores, because 1 shot= hits entire pack, good chance of crippling the wings.

If you can get those 2 weapons, they are absolutely amazing! I always avoided explosive weapons, but they are probably my favorite weapons now. Now I just hope Obsidian doesn't do anything to them.

I just wanted to express my new found love for these guns, please excuse me.

I dont really like explosives, never really use Rockets or Grenades. How exactly do you clear out whilst close quarters?

The new patch has made Explosives as powerful as they should be, it seems, and for all good reason, explosions are the best kind of... damn near everything.

The Grenade Machinegun deals a lot of damage, and I managed to cripple a few of their legs, rendering the 'Claws ineffective.

I just never used it on my low levels, because it shared ammo with the Grenade Launcher, and thought that was lame. Is it any good?

Coincidentally, I named my guy "Boom Boom Bob" (I have been using names with alliterations lately) I did get the Thump Thump, which was my "sniper rifle". It was pretty good, no complaints over that weapon.

That's not true at all. The whole reason I stay away from them is because ammo isn't so common (and it's heavy) and it's basically useless if you get surprised or end up inside a building.

To be honest Explosives has exactly three awesome weapons: Grenade Launcher, Grenade Machine Gun and Mercy. The GMG/Mercy is an absolute beast. Especially with the patch. Combined with Demo Expert you can level entire hoards - of well anything!

Brush Gun is not going to save your butt if 4 Death Claws are charging! GMG will turn them into hamburger! Pack of Cazadors - blow them to bits. Just don't play hardcoe with Vericona - she gets blown to bits too!

But outside of those weapons, explosives is kind of weak. The Fatman would rock, but ammo is hard to get. Missile Launcher is so-so. Frag Grenades are too expensive. Grenade Rifle shoots to slow/range is pathetic. Placed Mines/C4 is not that great.

How many buildings can you even fight inside in New Vegas that have tight spots where placed explosives won't be effective?

the grenade launcher and grenade machine gun are/were (pre patch) surprisingly effective at close range. you really don't get nailed too much with splash damage. and the GMG is by far the most fun fallout weapon ever. and high explosive missiles, they're not lying...you better keep your distance. i've yet to use mines (i always sell them), but when thinking about all the interiors, you can clear out many buildings without firing a single shot...unless it's to get enemies' attention.

my issues with explosives has been weight and availability. the 25 he rounds are bugged and those are the only ones i seem to find at vendors and there's not enough 40mm for mercy.
