I think I may have found a little trick - settlement bodies.

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2016 12:31 am

First a disclaimer, it's a discovery for me, maybe I'm the only one who didn't know but I'll share it anyway in case I'm not. For ref I'm on XB1.

So I'm cleaning up Sunshine Sidings, moving the dead ghouls out into the woods and I come across a dead legendary that's "this item is too heavy to move". Great, in the best house in the joint too.

Anyway I move on clearing other bodies and there's one who's head has been blown off (head's still there, just not attached). Straight away I note he's much lighter than the others, I can run with him. I go back for the head, pick it up and I'm thinking I might keep it as a trophy when I drop it (actually I think it more like jumped from my grasp) and it starts rolling very unnaturally and straight in the direction of where it's body is. It got caught on a stump or something but still wanted to move so I helped it and sure enough it keeps going (with a prod or two) until it finds it's body and finally it's at rest - it WANTED to be reunited.

Remembering how light the body was it gave me an idea. I went back to said "this item is too heavy to move" legendary ghoul, pull out the .44 and keep shooting till I blow his head off and you guessed it I could move it! And it's head wanted to be reunited too, which they are now dumped out in the bush and out of my settlement.

Hope it helps someone, if nothing else play reunite the head and see how far you can go getting it home on it's on steam.

Nice tip. You can also use held items to push them. A bag of cement or a similar sized item I found works best. Helps for getting rid of all the Skeletons littering Starlight Drive as well and any other unselectable junk.

I agree.

I can tell you from experience that chopping up bodies makes them much easier to move. More discreet too.

When you "chop them up" do other body parts like legs and arms show the same desire to be reunited as the head?

Well, that really depends on whether or not you consider sausages as a kind of "reunification".

Yeah, you can move the bodies... for now. But if any of those were dead before you got there, they'll respawn.... and they'll respawn back into the same place they were before you moved them.

You'll find that not only do the body parts want to be reunited, they also want to return to the place they were laying. In a few days you'll have the body parts arranged together on the floor in the middle of the house.

Well I guess I'll have o see how it goes. If he does come back I'm gonna keep making smaller and smaller pieces of him and dump him off the dam.

Let's see how creepy he can get.

Ugh. I've had Deacon stinking up the middle of the street in Sanctuary for weeks now. Really hope Beth addresses this...

Unfortunately, on consoles, I think it's a temporary fix. I've annihilated them into little-bitty pieces with an explosive minigun or shotgun..... and they just respawn later.

adapt & overcome.

i call it: Return of the (living) dead Dead; an ongoing mystery in Sanctuary. A quest that my character just cannot seem to wrap her dizzy little head around.

Do any of these tactics work on people wearing power armor? The only way I've found to move them around so far is with explosives. Not really the best approach.

I honesrly think they left little things like this in for modders to tinker with when the geck is released.

I'm on XBOX ONE as well, but I have never been able to move the dead bodies at any of my settlements. They either disappear on their own, or they stay put. I've tried everything I can think of, too -- scrapping or moving them in the build function, running things into them, leaving brooms around & hoping the settlers themselves would 'sweep' the dead away, etc. How'd you get this function?

A friend will help you move. A true friend will help you move a body.

lol.. yeah at least I dropped him in the bushes by luck! but he still persists. I have noticed something strange about Deacon's corpse.. his gear has mysteriously re-appeared! But it changes each time. new gun, clothing, etc. those pieces do not get equipped, just appear in his inventory.. strange!

For some idiotic reason I looted ALL his gear. So not only do I have his corpse in the middle of my town, I have his corpse in a pair of underwear in the middle of my town. <_<
