I think I may have set a record

Post » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:06 pm

So I created this sorcerer character, Bewjok the Grey Wizard, about a month ago, and have about 45 hours in his game. Just realized I'm still riding around on Prior Maborel's horse at Day 77. I'll admit early on back when I started Oblivion 2 years ago I wasn't very careful about keeping horses alive, but that's because I didn't know what the consequences could be if I just left them in certain areas.

I've gotten more cautious with each new character, obviously. :) But I'm surprised I've managed this long with the Prior's horse. It's gotten to the point that I actually named the horse "Trustworthy".

Your personal best, maybe. Fortja still has that horse after 166 days, and I suspect that's not a record.

On the other hand, she walks a lot. She also has found 135 nirnroots.

Ah! Beujok hasn't been doing so much walking becuase I had him grind out the early MG quests so he could get in the Arcane University fairly quickly. I'm looking forward to walking with him more, as he just got Illusion of 50 which means Invisibility is now in his game, but for now he's still doing lots of horse riding. :)

Renee, that is wonderful, and impressive! Yes, with time and care, one can keep a horse alive for a long time. :foodndrink:

Buffy got her precious black mare way back on about day 25. On day 279 now. The mare has never been seriously injured or killed. http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Cho%20Bk%201/ScreenShot679.jpg

Aw, thanks. :) It may not be an all-time record, but it's still a personal record.

It's Day 332 on my character and he's never lost the prior's horse.

Then again, he doesn't use it very often...

Wow. That's pretty cool..

Although on my main it's day 500-something and I know exactly where Prior Maborels horse is. :P (It stays in Cloud Ruler Temple's stables for some reason)

I use Shadowmere though, so I don't really care about it anyway..

Pseron is right:

Never seriously injured. ;)

Superian has suffered minor injuries. When that happens, Buffy immediately heals her. She is the fastest horse in Cyrodiil, and became injured a couple times when Buffy was first learning to ride her in rough terrain. As fragile as Buffy is, she will readily jump between Superian and an attacking wolf or lion to protect her mare. When traveling, Buffy uses 360 feet of detect life, so they are not surprised or jumped; if that were to happen however, they can outrun any foe. When clearing a dungeon, Buffy is very careful to comepletely clear a wide radius from pink glows before leaving Superian outside the dungeon. She thinks of her mare as a companion, and goes to great lengths to care for her. Buffy knows spells that can make her mare invisible, come to her (command creature), and walk/run on water. :)

Superian is not vanilla in the following ways: She has been renamed from 'My Black Horse' to 'Superian'. Her speed has been increased to indeed make her the fastest horse in Cyrodiil. We have a mod that adds to and increases the 'horse animations', like swishing her tail, pawing the ground and getting petted. She has saddlebags that help make up for Buffy's low strength. Obviously, her appearance has been altered.

^ See that's cool you've named your horse, Acadian. Like I said I named the Prior's horse "Trustworthy" for obvious reasons. Always there when I need him. Granted, it does take a bit of work. Beujok doesn't have 360 feet of detect life...I think he only has about 80 at best. So this means

1. leaving Trustworthy in a safe, secure place (like a shrine inhabited by a trio of followers) where he'll have protection while I'm not around.

2. Spending a bit of extra time skulking around if enemies are near. It takes patience. Sometimes, we never find the enemies...one moment they'll be around, the next moment Beujok will have the option to rest.

The thing is, Beujok is sort of a materialistic snob. He REALLY wants that house in Chorrol, which means he's trying not to spend too much, which means not spending money on a horse. But neither will he steal horses over and over like some of my earlier characters. Kind of a Catch 22 situation.

Impressive, not sure if Prior Maborel's Horse lasted more than a week or two with my character haha. Got Shadowmere now so no worries about horses anymore.

I love the horses i oblivion, it's cool that you really enjoy Maborels horse Renee Gade.
I get more use out of that noble steed than any other, and not just because it's free, I think I'll have to rename my next steed via console..
Thanks Acadian for that idea :) .

My first ever character I was too cheap to buy a new horse/didn't know I could... so at day 300 or so it was still my main horse... then I learned about Shadowmere...

Well the thing is, Beujok is actually wanting to retire the Prior's horse! He's got enough gold he can afford a faster horse, now; problem is he wants that house in Chorrol MORE than he wants another horse! Therefore he's making ME do extra work keeping Trustworthy alive!

It's kind of like a modern guy who goes to work everyday, driving a slow, old Corolla when he can afford something newer and faster. He keeps the old car because it gets him around, plus he's saving money for a huge down payment on that big house on the hill! Only diff is nobody takes down payments in Cyrodiil.:(

Impressive, not sure if Prior Maborel's Horse lasted more than a week or two with my character haha. Got Shadowmere now so no worries about horses anymore.

Meh. The whole Shadowmere thing would ruin my game I think, so far as horses go. I can't stand essential NPCs and their ability to revive over and over. I much enjoy the challenge of keeping horses alive, now that I'm good at it. ;)

Lol  , reminds me of a certain Dunmer I knew.
It's best you start taking that aloof chap by his scruff and let him know who's the boss, otherwise you'll end up with a ingame house full of women trapped against their will and strange looks from your rl family :) .

No no, when you open the console, you'll notice the mouse cursor appears. Then when you click on the horse, you should notice something like "My (whatever kind) Horse (000000)" The number in the parenthesis will be different though. Then type the command.

Hey Acadian, is the mod you use for horse animations a personal mod, or one that's been released? If it's the latter, would you mind putting up a link to it? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd enjoy more animations for the depressingly static horses :)

Back on topic... I'm going to need to get Prior Maborel's Paint Horse myself. I thought I grabbed her this playthrough, but it doesn't seem so. Walking's getting to be a pain. I'm also amazed that people manage to keep their horses alive that long; mine have a tendency to keel over after several hours. Then again, MMM, coupled with the fact that even tiny falls seem to cause harm may contribute to the issue.

The best way to keep a horse alive is as posted above a detect life effect on constantly.
Add to this allways park your horse at a safe location in the middle of an area of interest then go by foot.
Acadians very usefull, niegh wonderfull trick of fast traveling to your current location removes the need to find it or back track to its location.
Allways learn a ranged / touch heal spell every time your horse is injured cast asap.
When traveling galloping is not allways best, especially down hill just trot down carefully maybe at an angle to avoid fall damage, at least these are the things I find keep horses at full health.

It is a small but wonderful mod by LadyDeadlocks called Love Your Horse. Here is a TSNexus link to it. I love it! http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13892
