I think Skyrim should be free

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 12:50 pm

I bought the game box from the store, but im forced to install Steam software on my PC and im forced to register with Steam in order to play the game.
Games that forced you to install third party software and see adds, were free back in the day.
Forcing me to install Steam software and register with them doesnt do me any good, it does Steam a world of good though, so at least part of the box price should be paid by Steam, and yet the box sells for full price in the stores.
Its a very bad practice that is getting more and more frequent.

It costs the same amount on steam. And you downloaded a program that takes, what...

Five minutes to finish? Do you people just complain for the sake of complaining?

No, just no.
Unless it's an EA game like the Sims 3, then yes, yes.

I don't dislike steam. but I don't want to be dependent on them. Some stuff like the offline mode bull**** makes me angry.

Erm, no they weren't. The only games to have ever been like that are flash games which comparing flash games to Skyrim would be like comparing a pebble to the moon. As it goes, Steam is far better then most DRM out there since it doesn't svck up system resources like no tomorrow... like a lot of Sony and EA games DRM does and then they cling to your system like a virus.

I didn't encourage him to pirate the game, i told him the reason why they force you to register and install steam etc.
does it stop piracy? Ofc not but it slows them a little bit sometimes...

Just read this: http://www.gamespot.com/news/the-witcher-2-pirated-45-million-times-cd-projekt-6346876

reason why DRM was invented.

Skyrim should definately be free.

Who are they to force us to pay for this broken bargain?

I say: Off with their heads!

Skyrim is for for the nords, and those imperial bastards should NOT be allowed to force the citizens of skyrim to follow their sell-out laws!
Free skyrim! Free skyrim! Down with the Thalmor and puppet-empire!

Ulfric for emperor!
Hyaaaaaaaeeee!
Hya...

Wait.
Wrong topic.

...

Sorry. (Not)

I heard of a bay...where pirates hide treasures.

It takes quite a bit of time opening their chests if you wait for them to sleep, but at least you don't have to fight for said treasure.

True. Steam and DRM are an insult to paying gamers. Hackers always find a way to crack them, they only affect those of us who go out and spend money on the game.

How ironic, the ones who do the right thing and buy the game are the ones who end up with third party software on their computers.

I personally would NEVER let the pirates win..if you pirate games, then the terrorists win :|

This has nothing to do with piracy, it has to do with DRM.

Game bought on Steam: you pay full price, you have to download gigs of data (so if your internet bandwidth is limited by your isp you get to pay extra).
You cannot sell "your" game, you cannot lend it to your friend, you cannot play it if your internet connection is down.
If a patch comes out and you dont want to install it.....you cant play the game, you HAVE to install it.
If for whatever reason Steam shuts down, or their servers go down, hack attack or whatever....say goodbye to "your" games.
Steam fans falsely ASSUME that Steam would release a patch making the games free playable but they are under no obligation to do so and its unlikely they will do so.

If you want to buy the game from Steam thats fine, but if i chose to buy the game box, why am i forced to install and use Steam?
There are other ways of combating piracy, Steam forcing in Skyrim is not about piracy, its about inter-company deals and DRM.

I like how you felt so compelled as to actually make a thread about this.

I try to restrict myself from making too many dumb posts.

Do you really spend so much time trolling people's forums to tell them they complain to much? If skyrim works so [censored] well for you then why arnt you playing it instead of being here?

I wish I could complain about Steam. Unfortunately Steam is working like a charm on my computer, not to mention it's an incredibly convenient and cheap way of buying games, some of which don't get store releases at all. And then there's the ability to chat with my friends while playing. If only Steam svcked so I could complain without sounding like an entitled child.
