All you have to do is look at the first two games, then compare them to Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim as a whole.
Arena - (lotr I believe todd said...sketchy, I don't think Todd was even there for Arena)
Daggerfall ( don't know but assembling a massive demi god and creating a massive Time clusterfuzz altering the Land is pretty unique to me )
Morrowind ( not sure, but atm I don't see the cliche in being planted in a society to spy whats going on and pretending to be the chosen, and then finding out you -are- the chosen one is far from cliche for its time, now its nearly everywhere <3 Camorans Avatar for example)
Oblivion (Lotr influences - you -are- the chosen one, the emperor tells you this, your the hero plain and simple, your not even given a solid background to your thoughts on the matter....Cliche)
Skyrim (age of conan influences - not played, but once again you are the chosen one, the world will fall without you and your existence is prophesized.....not cliche? )
again haven't played Skyrim, just making sure there is a counter point to statements made.
