Think we will be able to see our feet in first person?

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 1:32 am

It really bothers me in first person games when you look down and nothing is there. Seeing your feet in first person could make it much nicer in my opinion.
What do you think?

Would be nice, but still pretty rare even in First Person Shooters. F.E.A.R. was the first game i saw that in. Or Killzone?

I want "immersive first-person view" as in Crysis. When you jumped you could see your arms in front of you. When you swam you could see your arms.

Seeing my feet isn't a must, but almost a must to me. The above I stated is a definite must.
I don't wanna be a "camera with a weapon in front of me" like in Oblivion.

After 5 years, first-person view must have been improved, otherwise I'd be greatly disappointed. Seriously.

Well they seem to be shooting for making the game as immersive as they can, or at least I'm taking it that they are.

First time I saw something like this was a really old game based on the Jurrasic Park license... cant quite recall what it was called. the game tried to be uber immersive in that you controlled your actual hands so picking something up involved moving your hand so it picked it up. That and you had 100% First person perspective so (the PC being female) you'd look down and you'd be looking down your own cleavage. It was odd.

EDIT: after a bit of googling its Jurassic Park: Trespasser releasd in 1998. apparently it had groundbreaking physics (hence the hand thing i guess)

I don't really care for that.
Not seeing myself while in first person doesn't bother me.

I really want see my body in first person, its like a pet peeve for me in games, but I doubt that Bethesda will put it in because I dont think it's a concern for them for some reason.

This is almost the most ridiculous post I have ever run across, I had to jump in and vote lol, I mean who cares really, will that little tidbit truly affect the game for you in even the smallest way ? I want to see myself, I go to third person hold the button down and spin the camera to see me, the only time seeing my feet as an advantage, which is why I am guessing people want it, is to get as close to edges as is possible to look down, once again going into 3rd person will do that for you also.

I've been convinced that first person view for most games should implement this feature ever since I saw Mirror's Edge. I'd find it very immersive to be standing on the edge of a cliff and actually see my character's body; Something like http://www.videogamegirlsdb.com/Images/Mirror%27s_Edge/Faith/Faith_ME_02.jpg is just so vertigo-inducing for me, and given how Skyrim is obviously going to be pretty mountainous and such...

I would love to see it. But i don't think it'll hapen. 3rd person and 1st person poses seen in the mag show the hand positions are not the same, thus meaning they used different anims for 1st and 3rd, which leads me to believe 1st person leg animations are unlikely. then again, they mention finishing moves and melee throwdowns, which mey look off with invisible feet, depending on how they are done. we'll see.

Why not, by solidarity with those who want it. :D Honestly though, I go with third-person view, bar when I use the crossbow. First person, with the limited visual field, is waaaaay too creepy for me. :P

im assuming they might do finishing moves similar to how dark messiah did them. such as when you speared someone with the sword after you knocked them down or you did sneak attacks with the daggers. i hope they did it like that but i doubt it. its something that i would love to see in the game but its not even in my top 10 when compared to real time lighting and shadows and fast travel alternatives etc.

No - Seriously, wouldn't this be worthy hoopla for the Game Informer article, and yet we haven't heard a peep about it. Not in, I suspect.

Don't Care - Pretty much self-explanatory.

I don't like to feel like I'm a floating camera, so, if done well (good animations are the key), I'd love to be able to see my character's body in first person view. However, if the animations aren't up to par, it will just end up looking terrible and awful.

Edit: Though I suspect this won't be in the game. Not really a big deal. It just would have been nice.

Why would your hulking Nord have dainty feet?

I don't know if this will be in the game or not, but I hope it will be. The whole "Floating camera with arms attached" thing is starting to look really dated, and it's only going to get more so as the realism of video game graphics increases. Honestly, I don't even understand why so few games do this, because when done well, it really doesn't interfere with normal gameplay, yet it can do a lot for realism.
