Thinking about coming back to Oblivion

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:10 am

Just wondering, over the past year, has there been any changes to FCOM? That was a big essential mod that I needed to play before, but the difficulties involved in installing it put me off the game. Has there been any improvements / stabilization of the mod? I mean, I was able to install it last playthrough but it got really buggy for some reason, I don't think I did everything perfectly...So I kept myself busy with Dragonage in hopes that some kind of easy automatic installation might arrive with FCOM...any news?

I've never played with FCOM but I saw this thread in the Oblivion Mods section: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090232-50-steps-to-stable-fcom/ Maybe it'll help you out, (or scare you to death if you're as computer illiterate as me!).

I'd recommend checking http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103610-relz-fcom-convergence-and-ufcom/ when wondering about FCOM. In a way, it's much easier to install now than before as several of the mods have bsa's now. Load ordering and tagging is also easier with BOSS and the latest Wrye Bash release. On the other hand, the FCOM Homepage is somewhat outdated so you'll have to combine the info in that with the info in the opening post of the FCOM thread. If you just take it slow, following the instructions and reading readme's etc. there shouldn't be a problem. And if there is - post about it in the thread instead. You can forget about "automatic installation" however.

What is this FCOM Superpack I keep hearing about?

There's no automatic installation? I thought so. But I think they made easy installers for some parts of the installation

I recommend checking out http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/, and in particular, familiarising yourself with BAIN. It makes seeing exactly what you are doing when installing and uninstalling mods that much easier, as well as making uninstalling / reinstalling any of them totally straightforward and stress-free.

But if you still prefer OBMM, that works as ever it did. Either way, you will find some great info, at that site, in the current FCOM/OOO/MMM threads, and from certain people here, should you need it.

Best of luck with it all! :)

No idea and it's certainly not supported by Team FCOM so you would be on your own if using it.

EDIT: That goes for other "unoffical" FCOM stuff as well. Tomlong's site etc. might be very useful, but if you have questions arising from following the guides there - post them in her thread rather than in the FCOM thread.

I'm just curious, I've heard about BAIN but is it supposed to replace OBMM? I'm guessing it makes FCOM more stable but at the same time, it's harder to install?
