Fallout 1 and 2 are both listed as being on sale, as well as some other oldie RPG's.

 :hubbahubba:

You may want to check on youtube for gameplay videos first, just to see if you'd be interested playing a game like that.

i just got fallout, fallout 2 and fallout tactics on one disc for 25 bucks.
ebay. free shipping. oooohhh yeeeeeah lol.

anyway, i came here to start a new thread asking for help, but this seems like a good enough thread.
haven't started 2 yet, but in fallout 1...

1) is there a way to sleep? i see beds everywhere but can't find a way to sleep in them.
2) i have repair almost maxed, but have never had anything break. is this skill useless?
3) what exactly is armor class? i had leather armor, which was 23 or so, and then i found metal armor, which seemed better statistically, but it brought my class down to 18...

any help would be greatly appreciated.
this is my first PC gaming experience, so sorry if these are noob questions lol.

1) Yes, in a sense. You just need to use your PipBoy. You should see options for how long you wish to sleep or wait.

2) No, not at all. Just be patient. Not only will you use it to help repair things in the world, it also helps in a few other interesting ways which I won't spoil for you (though you may want to keep a copy of Per Journer's excellent http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/fallout.html handy!)

3) Armor class is an old RPG stat. Here's a good explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armor_Class

Remember to pay a visit to the Fallout Wiki when you need some information on items and quests:

thanks for the info, aqua.
i knew about waiting, but i was hoping i could sleep to heal instead. to save time, lol.
i also know about armor class. i've been playing RPGs all my life. i worded that poorly, sorry.
what i mean is that the leather armor had a higher rating than the metal.
and then i bought combat armor, which brought me up to 28, but then found tesla, which i thought would be better.
dropped it down to 23.

i don't get it lol.
how is tesla worse than combat??

EDIT: and thanks for the link, pistol. i'll check it out eventually i'm sure.

Look at the individual damage type reductions you get for each armor. Tesla is worse than Combat, but can reflect some energy and electrical attacks.

Metal armor is just plain worse than leather. I don't know why but it is. :P

Also, you can rent a room at hotels to sleep or you can, as I said, use your pip-boy and click how long you want to sleep for if you're not in the midst of a battle. You can choose anywhere from one hour to however many days you'd like if you're really in need of healing (you'd just keep clicking "wait until morning"). I don't see how this is any different in the time-saving arena than Fallout 3's implementation?

10 minutes to "wait until healed"...or are you talking about Fallout 3?

well the difference is that in fallout 1 you're on the clock, lol.
fallout 3 lets you do whatever, whenever.

i ended up sticking with the combat armor too, by the way.
went to a store to compare prices. combat armor was worth 2K more than the tesla.
bye bye tesla.

fallout is such a great game. i'm loving it.
i ended up finding the final boss by mistake today. total mind [censored] moment hahaha.
although fallout 3 is my favorite game, i can now see why alot of people think it's worse than 1 and 2.
the atmosphere is completely different. i wish 3 had some of 1's attitude.

Bah! Hehehe, yeah, you're right. Fallout 3 was the last Fallout I've played and must have rusted the edges of my memory. Anyway, all I was trying to point out was that the pipboy in Fallouts 1 & 2 can be used to rest for a minimal amount of time or days at a time all the while healing your character.

Also, @NIN: you're only "on the clock" up until you get that water chip! Go get it now!

Let me break it down.

Fallout 2 > Fallout 1 > Tactics > Fallout 3

Switch 1 & 2 back and forth in your mind constantly, keep the rest and you've got my heirarchy. Hehehe.

Fallout 1 > Fallout 2 > Tactics > Fallout 3

Fallout 2 may have more to do but I hated its feel. It pretty much ditched much of the science fiction retro-futuristic 1950s feel of the original Fallout. Things felt way too "civilized" (even prostitution and drugs) for a Fallout game. I know it's been 80 years since the previous game so things would develop, but at times it felt like some generic Western or other "Lawless" game instead of a Fallout game.
