Thinking about starting a Youtube channel.

Post » Mon Feb 09, 2015 9:43 pm

I've been thinking about creating a youtube channel, still thinking about what my channel will be about so i am still not sure. What excatly do you need in order to start a Youtube channel?

What type of Microphones?

What type of headsets?

What type of Camera?

What type of editing software?

Also i understand that in order to record gameplay you need some recording software like Fraps right?

Is there anything else i need? Sorry i just get confused because there is so many things. I just want to try out the basics, practice doing videos and uploading them. I am thinking of doing some simple gameplay to start.

1. Blue Snowball is a popular choice, I think. Very good quality ; good for Let's Play videos etc.

2. It depends on how much you're willing to spend really, although you should look at reviews on Amazon etc.

3. -

4. An acquaintance of mine who used to do gaming videos (before he realised he was too dull to sustain a decent amount of views) likes Adobe Premiere. Perhaps you should look into Vegas Pro also. Or you could just stick with free software; there could be some really good, free editors out there for all I know.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. I hope this is helpful.

Good luck.

Before you go out an spend a ton of bucks I would try to use what you have and make a few to see how it goes.

Content is king which means you need to have something worth watching and it doesn't hurt to have a good on screen personnality.

Good Luck.

I'm not gonna lie, the only reason I watch half the YouTubers I do is the voice.
If your voice is monotone and svcks my will to live I wouldn't watch. Best bet, record a voice sample on soundcloud and we can criticize and help you that way as well.

if you want to do it because you think you would enjoy it as a hobby, go for it and I hope you enjoy doing it!

if you want to do it thinking "I am going to be one of these people whos youtube vids are so popular I make a very good living off ad revenue", I suggest you think of another career path instead as the odds are almost entirely against you

Start with a low end $20 microphone and fraps, then use that to practice your comentating skills. That's what your really after isnt it?

Gear does not equal ability. As LVDealer implied; No one, except a few really bored guys, will watch your content if it isnt passionate, entertaining, or funny.

My 2 cents.

My work requires audio logs and we use phone headsets. You'd be surprised how good some are.

Please god don't make your channel another let's play channel. I seriously don't know how the most popular channels on youtube are watching some [censored] play a video game with a little video screen in the corner showing them blurting out a bunch of annoying crap while playing the game. I can get wanting to watch a few minutes of a game being played before deciding to buy it or not, but seriously most of those lets play videos are hours and hours long, much more than a few gameplay snippets.

I'd rather take a power drill to my temple or watch hours of E! Talk (which is effectively the same thing) than watch those let's play guys who think they're the funniest people in the world.

Plus there are way too many let's play channels out there as it is. Please god, Anything but another Let's Play!! Anything!

My favorite Youtuber is sxephil and a dose of Buckley. If you merge the two omg I'd be in heaven.
