Post » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:16 pm

I am building it because i want to play more games on my PC than and Im not going to put the HDD or Disc drive on this list because i would be using my old one lol. Anyway here is the hardware and case I am thinking about getting:

CPU:AMD CPU Phenom II 955 Black Quad Core 3.2Ghz
RAM: 4GB CORSAIR Dominator DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 (Changed)
GPU:Palit SONIC nVIDIA GTX 460 Geforce 1GB
Motherboard: ASUS M4N75TD - Motherboard - ATX - nForce 750a SLI - Socket AM3 - UDMA133, SATA-300 (RAID) - Gigabit Ethernet - FireWire - HD Audio (8-channel)
PSU: CIT 750U
Case: zalman z7 plus mid

What do you think of it?

That is a decent mid-range rig, how much in total are you going to pay for all that?

As of this spec you should probably be able to run Crysis 2 on high settings with 40-50 FPS at a good resolution. And if you want you can add another GTX460 later for SLI, your 750W PSU is strong enough to power 2 GTX460s, so don't worry.

I'd say this is a cost-effective rig, and should be strong enough to play all your games and float all your boats. I have a Phenom II 955 in my rig as well, and it's a good overclocker as long as you have good CPU cooling, as I have mine at 4.0Ghz without breaking much of a sweat, with a cool-looking Zalman 9500A LED CPU fan. I heard the GTX460 overclocks well too, but if you are going to do overclocking AND go with twin GTX460s, you may need about 800W or more of power, just in case.

You're buying too much RAM, and what's more, it's too slow. You're better off with 4GB of 1600Mhz RAM. Find something that satisfies that. Save some cash!

Or you can just screw being economic and buy a rig with the FASTEST CPU, the FASTEST GPU, the FASTEST RAM, the FASTEST mobo, the FASTEST AWESOMENESS, and of course, the FASTEST...err...MOST POWERFUL POWER SUPPLY:)

...But this results in the FASTEST way to empty your bank...so I wouldnt recommend it.

My only suggestion is to get a GTX 560 Ti instead of the 460.

Also try to get a full tower case if possible for future proofing reasons. Everything else looks good. :)

The Gtx 560 Ti is an impressively smart buy option, going to order one soon for another rig too... ;)

This is a pretty high rig actually. I run on a GTX260 at 1080p on very high with shadows on medium (shadows arnt THAT important...just having them on at all spots cloaked ppl), and I get 40-50 fps in crysis 1 with a tri core AMD 2.6 Ghz.

His rig is FAR better and should for NO REASON not get 60+ fps at 1080p in Crysis 1. crysis 2 looks pretty close to the same but a little bit better lighting so it shouldnt drop by very much.

i would suggest a 1gb 6950 for graphics its only 260 at max and if you catch it on sale at newegg itll be 240. i just purchased a 6870 recently for 40 bucks less and it runs crysis warhead at 1080p full anti aliasing maxed out settings with no frame loss even in intense battles.in crysis 1 it gets a little lag in intense battles but thats not due to the card crysis 1 just has optimization issues with the engine. other than that it has maxed every other game with no lag at all dead rising 2 ,fallout new vegas, medal of honor and for **** and giggles halo 1 lol.which ever one you choose crossfire later on down the road and youll be set for awhile.

OP.
Go to http://www.aria.co.uk and sign up for the forums, there's a majority of people with technically genius minds in the ways of budget rigs.
