Thinking of buying again for mods

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:45 am

Well, as some of you know, Oblivion GOTY Deluxe is on sale on Steam right now for around $10. I consider that an incredible deal, and really want to purchase it. However, I've already played the game for hundreds of hours, and most of that came from modding on the PC. That was two years ago, and I haven't played Oblivion since. Now that I am thinking of buying it again, I feel incredibly overwhelmed with all the modding that has gone on for those two years. I feel like I'll be focused too much on learning everything and getting everything. And this just puts me off. Now, I know that modding will be worth it, with the great community the game has, but I wonder if I will even try to do all the research. So, should I buy it or not?

Thanks in advance.

$10 is a steel! Hell, if you bought just regualr Oblivion that'd be $20 + SI is an additional $10 + additional official plugins could make the total about $40-$45!
Regualr Game of the Year edition is already a bargain at $20 + all offical plugins, but $10!?! that's such a good deal it's hard to even comprehend on my part! Why pass up the opportunity?

It sounds like you're asking us a very existential question. The answer, of course, has to be: Do whatever you think will make you feel satisfied with what you've done.

If you want my personal answer, I'd say buy it, and don't worry too much about whether you'll do "enough" research. There are a lot of posted lists of good mods for various categories. Pick what you want most and start playing. When you want more, go look for more.

'Course, I've held off from modding my game for over 120 hours of gameplay at this point, just making lists and downloading things in my spare time, checking compatibilities and learning about the various modding tools. Which is apparently exactly what you want to avoid. So, y'know, your call.
