So I'm thinking of getting this again... but I need...

Some help here.

My first playthrough was years ago on xbox. This time I'm thinking of getting on Steam. My rig should run it ok right?

2.79Ghz
2.00GB of Ram

Nvidia Gforce 7600 gs

I'm wanting to run some mods to breath some life into this game. Am I able to run some mods to make the experience better with this rig?\

All in all is this worth 20 bucks of my money and time trying to get this game going with mods

If I get the game through Steam is it easy to install mods on that platform??

Just need some general help here.

If upgrading your RAM is at all an option, I would do it. You have a very small amount it seems, though I think that even with 2 GB of RAM you could do a lot with your hardware.

Yes it is for sure worth 20 bucks of your money to buy Morrowind and use mods on it, the amount of improvement you can apply to your game is simply ridiculous, and any Morrowind fan is missing out on a great experience if they don't get the game on PC. I personally started out on Xbox like you, but my console days are long over so last summer I bought Morrowind on PC. The poor graphics (in comparison to modern times) were a pretty big hurdle, but I completed the main quest without any modifications (or maybe just better bodies...don't remember) and I had a blast, it just took me a few minutes to sink back in with my old friend, Morrowind, but I loved it. And then I really got into modding, and they're an amazing boon - you can bring Morrowind's graphics to basically something like Oblivion.

It's very easy to install the game and mods on Steam - no troubles at all. It's also very simple to uninstall and reinstall Morrowind, incase you need a fresh install because you screwed something up or whatever.

I don't know how strongly you feel about Morrowind, but for me it's definitely my favorite Elder Scrolls game. And by spending the extra 20 bucks to essentially buy Morrowind twice is worth it in and of itself, just to inflate Bethesda's Morrowind revenue and say 'Hey! Hey you guys! Remember that one really great game? Yeah, make more like it...' But even if you feel indifferent about Morrowind and just want to get back into it, the mods are amazing.

Sometimes I feel like that having played new gen games it will be hard for me to overcome. That is why I worry about my rig. I want to be able to apply updates and such and make it the best I possibly can.

Any tutorials on adding mods through steam?

The Steam install is no different from disc install as far as mods go. The expansion esms are dated differently but if you use the CodePatch (highly recommended) it fixes that. I have been using a Steam version for over a year and haven't done anything special to use mods and my game is heavily modded.

That video card is definitely going to stop you from using most big graphics mods....it simply too old. You'll have no trouble running the game, but you won't be able to push it too far graphically.

Ok is there a tutorial on how to apply mods? I'm a novice to be honest but I most def want to get into this game again.

My fear is I'll DL it and spend the rest of my night trying to get the game where I want it and have trouble with mods all the while.

I'm going to drink a few beers and mull this over. If anyone can share some incite or general info about my plight I'm more than happy to listen. I'm actually hoping for that.

Thanks.

Enjoy your beers.

Basically, I'm positive that your computer could run Morrowind with some mods - definitely enough to reduce the most glaring issues like body/head replacers, unofficial patches, some additional content like extra factions/towns/strongholds/whatever. So it's really up to you, how 'bad' do you feel that vanilla Morrowind is? I know that I love the game I could play it completely vanilla in a pinch, and would be happy to play it just with unofficial patches and better bodies mod. Even my optimum configuration is 90-95% graphical enhancements only.

Though, I will observe that you could probably almost just bite the bullet and buy Morrowind with the money you spent on those beers! But I don't drink alcohol so maybe I'm biased, heh.

I want all the mods you mentioned.. is there a list of those?

and a few graphical ones. Those too?

Crappy thing is this is the last night of my vacation... damn..

Here's a pretty good list. You shouldn't get all of them, probably, but kind of go through the list and pick them a la carte based on what looks best for you, and experiment a little with what combination works with your rig (it's easy to disable and enable mods by just checking or unchecking a box in your game's launcher). The top four or five on the list are what I would consider 'barebones must-have' - basically the Morrowind Code patch, better bodies, better heads, etc. They really smooth out and improve the most dated part of Morrowind's graphics (the characters) and patch out most of the last bugs and the Morrowind Code Patch basically fixes the majority of the issues and bugs left over from when Bethesda quit patching.

Does it matter if my video card has 512 memory?

Wow man thanks a TON. I'm going to read through some of this info.

Will post my experience If/When I decide to go through with this.

I'll give you a shout out here soon. Thanks again.

Oh, the very top mod on that list is the 'Morrowind Patch Project', which is important, but I'd also recommend getting the third one from the bottom - the 'Morrowind Code Project', which has an exhaustive list of all the stuff it fixes right below it. Also highly recommended. Beyond those two, and Better Bodies/Heads I'd say that all the rest is pretty much totally player preference.

It should be c:/program files/steam/steampps/common/morrowind or something similar, depending on your computer.

Here is a picture of my directory http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/7098/dwm2012061222084341.jpg

After you extract mods to the appropriate place, you need to enable the mod in your game launcher, by going to 'Data Files' and then checking the box next to 'Better Bodies' (or whatever the mod is you want to use) and then clicking okay.

I don't want to start this until I have everything the way I want it.

I have to go to work in about 3 hours and would like to have this fixed so when I come home I can play.
