Third person view

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:25 am

In Fallout 3 and NV, the third person view doesn't center the character in the middle of the screen as it does in Oblivion and Morrowind. Heres an example:

Frankly, I don't care. I only use thirdperson for taking screenshots, and as long as it rotates, I don't care. But, I guess from a functionality standpoint, over the shoulder is better, it gives you a less obscured view of your target if you actually enjoy playing in the third person.

I don't want to say it but I'd want the third person aspect to be more akin to the fable games so that it actually works in combat.. It failed epicly in the previous games, even in fallout.

Fallout is the way it is because it better matches up with a shooting game.

So Oblivion/Morrowind style.

If they are gonna add a third person option (that's playble), they really need to work on the animations and camera. Sorry to say this, but MW and OB are horrible third person RPGs lol. They are better suited first person.

My opinion.

Drop the third person view.

Even if it's crap I like having it

Personally I don't care what style it is so long as it's better

Yeah, I definitely think the Fallout 3rd person was done the way it was to give better viewing for the shooter-style combat. I don't think it's necessary for TES. Among other problems I would fix from the 3rd person in Oblivion I would have some kind of reticle for the bow. It's almost impossible to aim in 3rd person.

I think third person needs to be overhauled. The game is obviously catering to the first person experience, which is fine. But third person should at least be a better and more smooth option for those who want to play that way.

Morrowind Style. The Oblivion camera flailed around more than a slaughterfish who ended up on shore.

I never thought of that. Now I feel dumb for choosing Fallout style...

But never mind the poll. I think Bethesda should create a totally new 3rd person camera. Right now it feels too clunky, maybe the new engine will fix this problem?

More Oblivion style, but add a crosshair of some sort, and center the camera a little above the character's head, not directly behind it. It got annoying as hell trying to hit something with a ranged attack when you had to cover your view of the target with your character's head to actually hit them.

Sorry to say this, but the Fallout third person view svcks. In FO3 and New Vegas (esp this one) the very first thing I did, even before checking for DarN's wonderful mod, was to download a mod that alters this horrendous view to bring it more in line with Oblivion/Morrowind style.

Drop the third person view.

Agreed.

EDIT: I'd still like some way to take a screenshot of my character, but apart from that, the third person view should be dropped.

Thats because Fallout was a shooter, you had too see where you were aiming. I like the oblivion style.

A new, better style. OOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRR... Add the cinematic kill cam from New Vegas. We would get to see our character all the time in slow-mo glory.

What about the people who like to play in 3rd person? You can't just take away something because you don't use it.

Morrowind/Oblivion. Sticking to 'over the shoulder' on one side like Fallout is more suited to a shooter.

or what about... every time you get a ranged weapon it switches to fallout style, otherwise its the classic oblivion/morrowind style.

Or both options in the menu.

I think Morrowind's was the best. I hate Fallout's.. I couldn't stand that it was so off center. But then again, I really only ever use third person when I'm just running around, or to look at my character from time to time. Whenever I'm actually doing something, I do it in first person. Not to say I want third person dropped, it's a must for me.

Should be no great deal to add an adjustable view. So this poll lacks alternatives.

How about Red Dead Redemption style. The camera position in its dormant state is directly behind the player; when aiming with a ranged weapon the camera shifts over the shoulder to the left or right (player can choose the side) and zooms in significantly.
