Is this 1999?

Post » Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:02 pm

When I start Crysis 2 up, I see gamespy instead of something that's actually good, like steamworks. Are Crytek really this out of touch with the gaming community?

The only people who don't like steam are pirates and DRM wanna-be heroes.
Pretty much, everyone hates gamespy. it's turd. Borderlands on the pc was dead at the start because of it.

Ah 1999....a good year for PC gaming !!
Started off my multiplayer career with, AvP via MPlayer. Used to be quite a few game clients around; Heat, and Wireplay were ones I also used. Gamespy was but another option, and ultimately the one which seemed to last.
Like it or not, it has helped gamers congregate and network over the years. Now, they seem to be stagnant. I've not had their client software installed for a while now, but then there are not many games I play online nowadays.
The days, when it was fun, has long gone in my opinion :)

AvP via MPlayer.

Ah, those were the days! :D
I had started my online gaming with Starsiege: Tribes. :)
I played Tribes for it's battlefield (before we had the Battlefield games :P) style and AvP for it's superfast Alien hunting. :)

Mplayer was great... before gamespy took it over.

I hate gamespy too. The servers are running well and stuff but I mean, just, WHY IS THERE GAMESPY!? I feel like it was one of the key reasons in killing Crysis 1 and Wars multiplayer.

1999 had cheat protection.

Also, I still play Borderlands every other weekend... Play it with friends, not random people online.

Borderlands with friends is still a lot of fun. Pirates can play it online just like Crysis 2.

Thankfully Gearbox are being forced to use steamworks with DukeNukem Forever.
Which will probably end up being not worth the wait.

Steam is disgustingly slow... a huge, steaming pile of horse ****. Its garbage. Lol. I am so damn thankful Crytek steered clear of that disaster. One less problem we have to worry about. Crysis2 has to many problems as it is.

Steam was bad when it first come out, but now? It's just pure awesome sauce. It work, and it work very well. It's super light and very much convenient. Download speed is extremely fast. Anyway, whoever **** on Steam is pretty damn clueless, a **** troll or been living under a rock...

Steam is Amazing. Especially the sales! But since most of the pc gamers are pirates, they don't give a fudge about it

If it wasn't for steam, outside of MMO's and a few RTS games, pc gaming would be dead.
Many Pc gamers being the self-important douchbags they are, spit in the face of even that lol.
