this is awesome! (PS3 coolness)

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:26 am

So a very few of you may remember that I posted a thread about this game nearly a year ago. I had as a young child and it was stolen from me, so Ive been seeking it ever since. The game is somewhat rare. However I finally found a copy of it in a Gamerz (yeah its spelled like that) in Omaha. So I get it home and fidn my PS2 wont play PS1 games because its old and such. So I digs out my ancient PS1 and it doesnt work, so I was down on my luck. However I find that any PS3 will be backwards compatible with the Playstation1. Only some of them will go backwards to PS2 but ALL are PS1 compatible.

So now Im playing Tecmos Deception on my PS3 and it is awesome. This game is delisciously evil.

As you lay dying, you beg the powers that be to somehow spare your life. Your wish is granted, but by Satan himself, who forces you to become the new master of his castle...the Castle of the Damned. To fulfill your contract, you must ensure that Satan is resurrected so you can use his dark powers. The castle is not unknown to the world, however. Treasure seekers, nobles, bounty hunters, and knights will enter your castle and try to defeat you. You must not let this happen.
Satan requires the souls of the castle invaders, and you will have various traps at your disposal to capture them. Traps are divided into three types: capture, destroy, and confuse. Cages, spikes, lifts, poisonous gas, and more are at your disposal, and each trap can be upgraded. Once ensnared, the victims' souls can be used for money or magic points. Their empty bodies can even be harvested to create monsters. The action is divided into 26 chapters, each offering a certain number of heroes to vanquish.
Gameplay is structured into five distinct phases. The invasion phase has adventurers entering your castle. The strategy phase involves positioning your traps on an overhead map, or building new rooms. The 3D action phase, the heart of the game, consists of luring victims to your traps from a first-person viewpoint. The decision phase has you choosing the fate of your enemy, while the intermission phase lets you save progress, collect more souls, or advance to the next chapter. Six endings are possible based on your decisions and actions throughout the game

This game is FTW! and if you ever see it, buy it.

Wait...what?

It's backwards compatible with only SOME PS2 games but ALL PS1 games? Where's the logic in that?

I mean, congrats on being able to play the game you want, but this just confuses me.

No, actually only SOME PS3 consoles are backwards compatible with PS2 games, but ALL PS3 consoles are backwards compatible with PS1 games.

And on that note, the Xbox 360 is only compatible with SOME original Xbox games; but that's because the 360 firmware needs certain patches to emulate the Xbox games, and some aren't compatible.

Yes, Deception is fine. ^_^

No, some PS3 versions have PS2 compatibility. Some hardware and some software-based.

Hrm. That just strikes me as odd. I knew that Xbox360 wasn't compatible with all original Xbox games, but not being able to do all of the previous generation but able to do all of 2 generations ago confuses me.

Wut? :o

I had no idea! I had the 60GB PS3 so I could play any PS1 and PS2 game I wanted..unfortunately it YLODd and I now have the Slim 120GB and I knew it wasn't PS2 compatible so I assumed I couldn't play PS1 games either.

BTW is there really no way of making other PS3 versions other than the 60GB PS2 compatible? :sadvaultboy:

Yup all PS1 games require a small chip if I recall in order to play them. This is easily put onto the board of the PS3 and it enables it to play these games. However the PS2 games require a much larger chip/item for confirmation and due to this it isn't being done on the newer PS3s. Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to grab one of the B/C PS3 consoles and have the 80gig fat original.

The good thing is i'm starting to see some emulations done with PS2 games with GoW 1 and GoW 2 being prime examples of this. I think that the main problem might be with licensing agreements though which is why Sony isn't pursuing this option more diligently.

Uh.... PS3 uses software emulation for PS1 games.

PSX games are not intensive. With the correct emulator, you could probably play most of them on your phone.

This. That's why all PS3's play PS2 games. Sony took the Emotion chip out of PS3 so they could reduce the cost. That's why it's not PS2 backwards compatible anymore.

Egg on Sony's face about Backwards Compatibility. When the 360 came out, Sony tooted it's Horn about the new 360 at the time not being backwards compatible, and mocked them for it, being how the PS2 could play PS1 games.

How ironic not the 360 can play alot of xbox games while the most PS3s can't play PS2 games. Only the PS3 with the 80 gig hard drive can play PS2 games, all new PS3 can't play PS2 games, funny how Sony doesn't bring this up now.
